"I would recommend going back and heading down the path we passed b as quickly as possible, we've been hanging around this dingy alley way for a lot longer than we should. Nessa, stop fiddling with those rats, you might get filth fever, or something! If your going to get all chummy with your new friends, at least tell us what their saying!"

Karie impatiently tapped her foot on the ground and crossed her arms, waiting for Nessa's response.

"Shshs Karie", Nessa hissed. Then she turned towards the rats. "Do you understand me? For I do understand you. Is there anything we could do for you. I guess you don't like bones, do you?" Nessa tried to speak as calming and loving as possible to show she meant no harm to the animals. If they liked to have a bone Nessa would give one to them.

The scurrying creatures within the crate (and elsewhere) heard Nessa's suggestion.

"Bonesssss is only good for the marrow, Foodsss. Flesh is what we wants. Flesh Food of the barking things that eat the catssss, or of the clucking things with the nasty fuzzy things on them, or of the things big shadow noises gets on to go fastsss.... Or Big Shadow Noise Flesh... Yes, big shadow noises has fleshy flesh foodsss. Even the black ones covered in the nasty fuzzy things (feathers) that don't fall has flesh food. Goood flesh foodssss."

Dreyrugr took off his shoes and gloves and got down on all fours for better grip letting his instincts guide him. Dreyrugr then estimates how far it is across to the next ledge.

He can judge that the road is about 3 and a half meters across. He could normally jump it easily, but with the pouring rain and the structural insecurity of the buildings across from him, there was about a 50-50 chance he would fall and hurt himself.

From his vantage, he could see smoke rising from several parts of the city. The riots were getting ugly.

Drake looked up and at Nessa.

"Hey! Quit talking to that box and help us!"

"Drake, she's not talking to the box. She's talking to the rats. And yes, she can do it. It's in her nature."

"Oh, I guess that makes sense. Stupid Nessa. Never helps us, her..."

"Shut up Drake. I have business to do." Nessa turned back to the rats. "Do you mean the Smelling Salt? If you like them you might have them."

"Amorith, if you want to make a bridge that is up to you but I'll go over there either way."

Dreyrugr waits for Amorith to make a bridge. If Amorith chooses not to make a bridge Dreyrugr will attempt to make the jump.

Karie drops the wheelbarrow after an ingenious idea pops into her head.

"Wait a minute! We could just leave the bodies here! We're not coming back this way, we don't intend to come back this way, let's dump the bodies here, and leave!"

Karie motions for Amorith and Drake to assist her in dumping the bodies in the alley.

"Shut up Drake. I have business to do." Nessa turned back to the rats. "Do you mean the Smelling Salt? If you like them you might have them."

"No!!!" the voices grew irritated. "Flesh! Blood and grit and muscle and bone and skin and tendon and juicy, juicy organs, and eyes and toes and talons and integument and fat and grease and brain!" they cried in unison, scratching and clawing and nipping and salivating.

Karie drops the wheelbarrow after an ingenious idea pops into her head.

"Wait a minute! We could just leave the bodies here! We're not coming back this way, we don't intend to come back this way, let's dump the bodies here, and leave!"

Karie motions for Amorith and Drake to assist her in dumping the bodies in the alley.

No sooner did Karie drop the bodies, then millions of scrawny and fat, clean and filthy, smooth-furred and boiled rats erupted from the crate, the litter, and the walls around the party. They crawled and scampered under the legs of the party members like a polluted ocean wave of gray, blue, black, brown, tan, and white. They all found their ways to the bodies and began eating them. The sound was the worst part... for all accept Nessa, who could have sworn she heard singing.

[herrJJ]

"Oh yes, the ravens, right. Just forgot about them. You can have them. Would you mind telling us a fast way for humans to the docks, now that you have your food?"

[Kintobor]

Karie could do nothing but look in awe at the swarm of rats that came rushing out of every nook and cranny and immediately swarm the bodies.

"Rats, why did it have to be rats?"

She shook two of them off her boot and nimbly moved to a less rat infested area. The noise was awful, and the amount of them that were feasting on the corpses was even more repulsive.

"Well, at least the bodies are taken care of. Hey, rat-whisperer, what are our appeased rodent friends saying?"

"Oh yes, the ravens, right. Just forgot about them. You can have them. Would you mind telling us a fast way for humans to the docks, now that you have your food?"

"Mhhhh!" the gorging rats moaned, "Yes! Food Giver is always most welcome for help. We can tell you that the fastest way anywhere is always the way that is differenter. Given the choice of 1, 2, and 3 the choice that does not match up is the right one! 3 is least emphasized, so it's the fast way. If there's a choice of two ways, the path most traveled should be correct. Also, never trust cats, they always lie."

The pleased rats squeaked and squealed as they devoured the corpses.

"Thank you, rats." Nessa still was wondering about her skill to talk to animals and waved them goodbye. Then she remembered their current task. She looked up to Dreyrugr and Amorith and asked the party: "So are we all going up there or walk back and try another route? We should hurry!"

"We're going down that path we passed when we came this way. Lets hurry along, we've wasted enough time in this alley already!"

Karie ushers her party down path B.

The Party, given the choice to go Down A, B., or C., chose C. first, and came to a dead end. Ignoring the hints provided by the rats, they raced down B., only to find another dead end. One of the rats from the previous dead-end seemed to be following them.

This Deadend had a mangy looking stray dog. He growled at the party, and Nessa heard. "Humans... Humans hurt me. Humans are bad. Don't let them touch me."

"What has happened to you? How can we help you?"

Karie looks at the party.

"Well, we could easily leave it alone, but something about seems almost... pitiful."

Karie fished her bone out of her pouch, squats down, and whistled for the dog to come over. If it comes close, she inspects it for any wounds or markings.

"Here boy! Come here, nice juicy bone!" She turns to Nessa, bone still outstretched in her hand.

"Ask him if he'll lead us out of here, down to the docks."

"Master beat me. Called me bad dog. He throwed me on street. Humans are all the same. They just want to kick me. Don't get near me! Don't kick me!" He barked.

Karie looks at the party.

The Dog looked at Karie's offer, confused. he gave a tentative growl. "Humans don't give me many bones. I like bones. But Humans kick me. I don't like being kicked. If you kick me, I'll bite your hand off. If you come near me. If you move too fast. I'll bite your hand off." He warned. He moved closer, interested in getting the bone.

Karie pokes Nessa, eyes still on the dog.

"Pass me your bone." She then speaks to the stray.

"You like bones don't you? Well what about two bones? Mmm, yum yum!"

The Dog was salivating now. "Can I have those bones?" he whimpered. "Can I have those bones? You're not going to hit me, right? Don't hit me. I just want the bones. Can I have those bones?"

She drops the bones in front of herself and puts her hands behind her back. When it gets close, she looks the dog over.

"I'll find you another bone Nessa, don't worry."

The dog moved towards the bones and cradled them gingerly in his mouth. He moved back a little and deposited them in his crate. "You humans are not like the other humans. Here. Take this thing my master threw at me. You nice people can have it. I don't know what it is but I don't need it." The dog grunted as he chewed on his bone.
