benny Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) http://en.wikipedia....fice,_Hong_Kong It is the Hong Kong General Post Office, it was built in 1911. However, it had been pushed down in 1976 to set up the subway in Hong Kong, Central I like its style, so i made this MOC(48x48). I used the tan and reddish brown color, it is only part of the orignal post office. It has four floors. G/F is the service counter and loading bay for vehicles. The 1/F is cashier, the 2/F is letter collection centre. The 3/F is the headquarter. PsyKater Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 That looks huge! If you'd deeplink all images we could see them, since the Brickshelf folder isn't public yet! Quote
TheLegoDr Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Beautiful work. Looking back and forth between the two images, you could almost swear it was the same, only one in color! I think you captured the source material spot on. I don't love the red brown/tan combo on the pillars on the upper levels, but it does appear that is how it looks in the official photo. But you captured the overall shape and everything. Truly well done. Keep up the great work. This is impressive! Quote
scottwb2010 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) WOW! This is one big MOC. Very impressive. When I looked at the photo of the real building first, my first thought was that to recreat this would take some effort, but when I looked at your MOC pics I was amazed at how you managed to get so much detail. How long did it take you to do this build? Well done and thanks for sharing. Edited March 15, 2013 by scottwb2010 Quote
benny Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 Thanks! I planned this MOC in 2011 but i did not have enough parts. Finally, i ordered more parts in 2012, i spent around half year to complete it! Quote

Finally, i ordered more parts in 2012, i spent around half year to complete it! It wasn't just time you spent on this but I guess a fair few HKD's? God knows how many parts are used in your build. I hope TLG bring out a Post Office in the modular/creator series as Grand Post Offices look great re-created in lego Quote
benny Posted March 15, 2013 Author Posted March 15, 2013 (edited) Thanks! For the total amount of parts, i never calculated. I think it is around 3000-4000 pieces. It used up nearly all of my reddish brown and tan bricks at my home. Besides, i also ordered a lot of plate and tiles! I like post office and train station so much, i also want lego co. can release more and more detailed post office line and train line. It is much better tahn boring police, fire station , hospital and construction line. They have been released X times since 198X Edited March 15, 2013 by benny Quote
r_history_lego0 Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Great, very nice details and inside looks good too! I love the cars Quote
lightningtiger Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 Now this is a post office 'benny', just simply beautiful in design.....it has what we call in Oz that Federation design feel to it (that's very late Victorian/early Edwardian look). Brick On 'benny' ! Quote
benny Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 Thanks for lightningtiger , you added more detailed information about its original design! Quote
L@go Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 You've done very well to recreate the original look of the building! The exterior is pretty spectacular, and the interior is delightfully busy, there's a lot going on there. I like that. Quote
LEGO Train 12 Volts Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Amazing giant building! Not exactly like the set 6689! Great work! Quote
Hey Joe Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 You did an extremely excellent job there and that would be a proud centerpiece of anyone's collection. Personally, I would have made it a little smaller (knock off one floor and put the building on a 32x32) so that it would fit with the official modulars but who could knock you for thinking big! It's a shame that the original building is no longer there but maybe it's understandable, the Central MTR station is huge. It's like a whole d@mn city down there underneath the pavement. Thanks for sharing, Joe Quote
Cunctator Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Beautiful building and also nice reproduction, too bad it doesn't exist anymore.. Quote
benny Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 Thanks! Actually, this MOC is started from 32x32. However, its real size is very big, it is increased into 48x48. In fact , my MOC is only around 1/3 of the real building! Quote
Freddie Posted March 16, 2013 Posted March 16, 2013 Fantastic recreation, full of life! I particularily like the detailing on the roof, really gives it character. Thank you for sharing! Quote

benny Posted March 16, 2013 Author Posted March 16, 2013 As this MOC has totally four floors, 48x48 is much better. For 32x32, i should give up some detailed structure! Quote
