oDDerFisken Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Found this MOC at BS and thought someone in here might like it (me for instance). What do you think of it? I think it's a very nice little outpost for rum (smugling?) The folder Quote
El Bucanero Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 It looks like it could be a real lego set...Nice find. I like the steps to the highest level in particular: It appears this also is the creator of the white Torre de Belem... Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted February 8, 2007 Eurobricks Emperor Posted February 8, 2007 I like it Mr. oDDerFisken. It's small but great in its own way. This proves that big is not always better. It also looks good on the interior. However, I would have used that picture with the nice background. Mmmm, shall I put this with the "harbors" or "military" in the Index: Land Based MOCs? Quote
Norro Posted February 8, 2007 Posted February 8, 2007 Very nice! Reminds me of the similarly reinforced sabre island from the idea book...except with newer pieces. God Bless, Nathan Quote

I don't think this is serving as an harbor.. It has a pier but that's just to dock on boats. The translation(from www.freetranslation.com): A small centre of commerce for him MYSELF do business of Rum... So I say non-military. Quote

If that's the translation, then who are we to question the builder. I've added it in the non-militare section. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 9, 2007 Governor Posted February 9, 2007 What a magnificent little fort! Here's an image the creator has edited for presentation - its a wonder this one wasn't used in the first post. Do we know who the creator of this MOC is? He/she seems to do marvelous work so maybe we should invite this person to discuss with us. Quote
oo7 Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Well MISTER Tiber said that the builder also built the white Torre de Belem so that would be LBaixinho. And uh, I'm sorry but this fort is clearly established and manned by the militia. But I'm wondering why there is a double door preceeded by a 4 brick deep drop to the little dock. :S Quote
ZCerberus Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 But I'm wondering why there is a double door preceeded by a 4 brick deep drop to the little dock. :S It appears that the crane mechanism is housed inside. The door isn't for people, but for cargo and cranes. Quote

Athos Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 Nice. I really like the ladder and the sloped ramparts. Steve Quote
Capn Frank Posted February 9, 2007 Posted February 9, 2007 It's a cute little fort. I like the way the balcony for the cannon is built, looks very authentic. I think there are a lot of details and functionality for such a small fort. *y* I probably wouldn't have had such a large stair case in the interior. It uses up a lot of room. Not a big deal though. Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 10, 2007 Governor Posted February 10, 2007 Ahhhh the interior! I think for a run port it could really use one of those big western barrels to store the rum in because it looks more like a weapons storage facility. Also it appears that staircase goes to nowhere. I think some kind of 2 wide tile against the wall would make it seem more purposeful. Quote
Norrington Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Wow. This is quite good, though I highly doubt it's for smuggling rum. Why would the Imperial Navy need to smuggle their rum? That'd be pirates doing that. Nice Moc all over I think, besides the title. Quote
LBaixinho Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Hi, Thanks for the comments :). i think that the best translation is "Small outpost for rum commerce". The origin of this MOC is a pic of a new playmobil set that Juan Macias show me. Off course i transform almost everything :)! Aswering some questions... The stairs go nowhere because on the pic the fort is open. With the MOC closed the stairs have a way ;) Is controled by the govs, so the soldiers guard it, and some civils work. Right, the double door is for cargo :) brickshelf link LBaixinho Quote
Scouty Posted February 10, 2007 Posted February 10, 2007 Hello there! And Welcome to EuroBricks! Your models are very good! Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 11, 2007 Governor Posted February 11, 2007 i think that the best translation is "Small outpost for rum commerce". I have updated the thread title for you! The origin of this MOC is a pic of a new playmobil set that Juan Macias show me. Off course i transform almost everything :)! You don't happen to have a picture of this Playmobil set? The stairs go nowhere because on the pic the fort is open. With the MOC closed the stairs have a way ;) By any remote chance is there a second half to this MOC? I want more!!! Is controled by the govs, so the soldiers guard it, and some civils work.Right, the double door is for cargo :) Where are the civils? Quote
Scouty Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 The picture is the other half, this rum building splits in two. I think, at least. The civils are also at the port going barking mad without their rum :-P . Quote
Capn Frank Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 You don't happen to have a picture of this Playmobil set? Yeah, I'm kind of curious about the same thing. By any remote chance is there a second half to this MOC? I want more!!!... I think this is how it goes: On the right of the second floor of the interior, there is where a platform that matches up with the top of the stairs on the other half (see below). It's like if you're going up the stairs and once you hit the wall, turn left and you'd reach the 2nd floor on the first picture on this post. I'm pretty sure that's how it goes. Phred Quote
Governor Mister Phes Posted February 11, 2007 Governor Posted February 11, 2007 Excellent work Phred! Its so much better when other users do that for me :-D But my real question is: Most builders link the two sections together with hinges so were there any particular reasons for not using hinges on this fort? The answer is probably obvious but I'll let the master creator say a few words on the matter. Quote
Scouty Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 How is this set placed together???? Another technique for conaecting two halfs or the technic pins. Quote
LBaixinho Posted February 11, 2007 Posted February 11, 2007 Hi In this image you can see that i use a hinge plate to connect/open both sides. On the front side i use a plate to close the construction. (not a perfect solution... :) ) About playmobil pic, you can see in this thread. off course i only pick the idea. Kill the lighthouse and the double door at the first floor and put all more lego like. About the stairs, Phred is right :) Thanks for all... with this comments maybe i'll make something new... the worst part is my free time :( But you can find more portuguese pirate creations here, by Rupi, a friend. I think that wasn't a topic talking about it. LBaixinho Quote

Maybe tomorrow! But in the meantime I shall look forward to seeing your next creation. But you can find more portuguese pirate creations here, by Rupi, a friend. I think that wasn't a topic talking about it. Yes, we've seen Mr Rupi's MOCs in the past and he does quite a good job. He really should be making more Imperial Guard and Armada MOCs. X-D Quote

Governor Mister Phes Posted February 11, 2007 Governor Posted February 11, 2007 I shall take a look at this forum right away! As a matter of fact I'm curious to know more about the role the Portuguese played in colonisation of the New World and have been wondering where I could find more information on the subject. Quote
