Something about that front suspension doesn't look very stable. Is there a way that you could incorporate the new style gear rack into it? those tow balls being upside down are sliding around in that older style one and do not look very sturdy.

i can assure you the suspension is solid as a rock as it connects to the part of the chassis that holds the L motors :)...the chassis itself doesnt bend at all

I don't really mean the chassis, I was thinking more along the lines of just a single black pin being used to support the front shock on each side. I know that this works fine on the smaller models as there is not much weight, but I don't know how well it will fare with yours since it is larger and you haven't begun to really start adding anymore weight. It was just an observation. :classic:

My version with 5 gears and a reverse, is coming along nicely.I've changed the gearbox, obviously, to accommodate the extra gears, and the extra shifter,as well as trying out another shifting device, instead of the blue pins.

ah i see what you mean!

it seems to be strong enough to carry the weight on the front part luckly :P

gearbox, steering, and engine are ready and working fine :)

now i just need the brake system on the rear axle and the chassis will be finally ready

606g of weight till now...

i think this chassis could work also for other similar cars from the 70s

  • Author

once ill finish it, if it works i'll make em :D

im trying to make everything in the tidiest way possible...its quite complicated but i'd say that it's done...i only need the brake :P

:):):) hope this will be first successful chassis for FWD RC supercars!

Did you try to hold wheels by hand and turning on motors at different gears? I mean how strong the gearbox is? Do gears slip on load?

Awesome work! It is a month since I become a lego technic fan , so I'm looking forward to see instructions of your brilliant work, it will be definitely a teacher's guide than an instruction for all of us beginners!

not really but i attached a provvisory wheel to the back of it and made it drive around a bit with every gear :P and it works....the third gear is 1:1

the gearbox is fine too it doesnt pop out of gears but i have to test with the full load and the full IR controls...

tomorrow im gonna try to invent something to make the handbrake the simpler that i can....when i'll have all the 4 wheels attached that's gonna be time for a first official test :P

i hope i won't disappoint your expectations :D

ok so:

the car turns fine, the gearbox works good (even if it requires some finetuning sometimes) and the brakes are almost done

BUT

the model is getting heavy and untidy and im not happy with it... so as it's so, after a week of work ill dismount it and remove the gearbox, the clutch and the brakes system :P

mainly for a reason:

the final gear ratio is 1:1 and i saw that the car doesn't stress that much starting with that...it means that it doesnt require a gearbox...if i decrease the weight it's gonna work even better...

ill take detailed photos of the gearbox so you can build it if you want :)

im a bit sick of adding weight to a vehicle that i wanted to be fast....

maybe i can just simplify it by using 2 gears removing clutch and brakes :)

replace the front shocks with the stiff yellow ones, and, if you remove for weight, it's reducing the functionality by a lot, and it looks so interesting right now... :sceptic:

yeah i know ....too late....

maybe i should just rebuild it differently....the problem is that all these functions are not increasing performances :P

im not sure what im going to do....i can cut away functions or rebuild it differently trying to use less pieces...

i really dont know :\

So, all of these features are for performance, or for realism, or for just their awesomeness?

You should decide, because if it's for the performance, then you are doing it wrong and you should remove all the fancy stuff and go for simplicity as much as you can.

It seems that your goals are not clear enough.

Can you make 2 versions?

One with all the nice functionality you have now, and a 'simpler' one that has good driving ability?

  • Author

well im not sure yet....maybe i should just rebuild it with the same stuff but made better :P

btw it will never have cool performance without RC buggy motors :P

so let's say ill re- build it for the awesomeness XD

(i've found a more compact way to build the sequential system ...i have to check if it works ^^

maybe restarting everythin from scratches has been a nice idea!

everything is simpler and tidier now :)

i've also changed the pins of the gearbox so gears are more precise now
