Wedge09 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I really love Eurobricks and I'm a bit sorry to live it but now with a lot of American's AFOL we should follow their rule :cry_sad: Great April Fool's Day
Paul Boratko Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 (edited) Speaking of Metric tons... You know... If President Obama declared over night that the U.S. was switching over to the Metric system, the entire country would lose it's mind... It would be worse than the worst zombie outbreak imaginable... Hinckley Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Personally, I'm aware that this is a joke, but I'm not finding it very funny. It's one thing to joke about changing the name, but it's another to take it as an opportunity to dump out a metric tonne of anti-American stereotypes and blather. Why not joke about, say, AussieBricks, where children are forcibly separated from their parents into the 21st century and everyone has a proclivity for getting frisky with sheep? Or perhaps take some shots at Afribricks, where functioning government is a joke in and of itself, STDs are more prevalent than the common cold, and brutality and corruption are normal? Or even adapt Eurobricks to be more accurate, with a penchant for violence and genocide, Kafkaesque bureaucracy, and a habit of hiding behind the U.S. and whining about our foibles? Offensive stereotypes of groups and nations aren't really part of what I've come to enjoy about the Eurobricks experience. Our legitimate and serious, well-planned change is more offensive than STDs and sheep-megablocking? I thought Anericans were easy to make fun of and too dumb to get offended. That's why I voted for this change. Because we actually believe that Americans are the greatest at everything, even bein European. Have you seen San Francisco? We're the authority on being European.
hjmediastudios Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 None of those places are representative of the shift in our member base. Did you even read my post? Americans. Oh, wait. Americans! Just because your member base is shifting to include more Americans, doesn't mean it's OK to belittle us. My own country's "member base" is shifting to include a much larger percentage of Hispanic folks. Does that make it OK to mock them? Or what about the influx of Muslims to Europe? Is it suddenly acceptable to whale on them?
Leo604 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Its about time. I've been getting sick of having to explain why I was a member of eurobricks, when I live in America. U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A! Steve YEP.

Offensive stereotypes of groups and nations aren't really part of what I've come to enjoy about the Eurobricks experience. We can't really condemn Americans members for laughing at their own stereotypes. Besides most of these are funny rather than offensive, and I'm sure that offending anyone wasn't the intent. I don't think that anything mentioned in this thread should be taken seriously. Except the site name change, of course.
Shadows Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 Is it suddenly acceptable to whale on them? Leave the whales out of this, they'll think you're picking on them for eating too much. Like Americans. Who we love. Love 'em! Every blubbery pound of 'em! And I don't mean the whales that time.
def Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Or even adapt Eurobricks to be more accurate, with a penchant for violence and genocide, You know what? That was exactly about the old Eurobricks that wasn't satisfying me: the penchant for violence and genocide. Why hasn't an AFOL site not focused more on genocide in its near decade of existence? Guys, can the AFOLs be any more clear? MORE GENOCIDE! Luckily, most successful countries in the world have their fair share of it, so be it EuroBricks, AmeriBricks, or the inevitable 2020 shift to AsiaBricks, we'll be able to get the accurate amount of genocide in to satisfy members like hjmediastudios, and their desire to see genocide represented in the AFOL market. Peace yo!
ttoole73 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Well all my patience has finally paid off. I knew if I recruited enough of us Yanks ( as we are so affectionately called ), that it would finally sink in to change the name of the site to AMERIBRICKS !!! P.S. Took you long enough.
Zerobricks Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 As Austin power would say.... Jay for capitalism, jay......... (*sceptic face*)
hjmediastudios Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Besides most of these are funny rather than offensive, and I'm sure that offending anyone wasn't the intent. The same could be set about all sorts of racist jokes, from the teller's standpoint. Leave the whales out of this, they'll think you're picking on them for eating too much. Like Americans. Who we love. Love 'em! Every blubbery pound of 'em! And I don't mean the whales that time. That's fighting talk. Which I would win, seeing as how Europeans always get Americans to do their fighting for them.
Shadows Posted April 1, 2013 Author Posted April 1, 2013 That's fighting talk. Which I would win, seeing as how Europeans always get Americans to do their fighting for them. Really? You can't even win at reading my country of origin as listed to the left over there. You know, the left. Well, let me make this easier, see the picture of the cowboy? That's me. Now go down a little and you'll see my "Country" and further down, my flag. Nice job, though, calling on an untrue stereotype to try to make an argument about stereotypes. Way to do us Americans proud.

hjmediastudios Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Really? You can't even win at reading my country of origin as listed to the left over there. Well, who knows with this prank floating around? You could be a Czech for all I know. You should have done something easy-listening instead. I would suggest classical.

Funniest thing I've read today. Mostly because it is true. We as Americans need to poke fun at ourselves because let's face it, we do some funny and odd things.
Andy D Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 Great! You had me for a couple of minutes! I was really wondering "what the heck" The I realized that today is going to be a fun day on the Internet and absolutely nothing will get done Oh well, nothing to see here, move along. Andy D

Paddyb98 Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 (edited) You know what, enough of this tomfoolery. If any of you guys need to find me, I'll be the knex forums, where I can enjoy building with plastic children's toys in peace...... So long, suckers! Read the third post on this:http://www.debate.org/debates/Resolved-Knex-are-better-than-Legos/1/ I think it says it all........ Edited April 1, 2013 by Paddyb98
L@go Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 (edited) I've seen this coming for a while, and it was about time! We Norwegians dislike the rest of Europe so much that we've chosen to stay out of the EU, so I feel more like an American than a European anyway. Plus, I have tons of relatives over there. Great idea! And a lovely banner. Could you possibly squeeze in one of the CMF cheerleaders too? Or both, grrr... And maybe we finally can get rid of all those stupid posts from people complaining about the huge price differences on LEGO worldwide. It's cheap in the US, so why care? By the way, I can only see this gorgeous banner on my iPhone, it very boringly doesn't show up on my laptop, where I still have the Fabuland one. Why is that, I wonder? I want that banner on my laptop, too. I want it on all my devices. And on all sites I visit, come to think of it. Can you make that happen? Please? Edited April 1, 2013 by L@go

There's the spirit, welcome, honourary American! Your laptop and other devices, including your toaster, should now have the right banner/skin. We're working on the rest of the internet, it won't take long.
Brickington Posted April 1, 2013 Posted April 1, 2013 I want that banner on my laptop, too. I am noticing that aswell. The banner doesn't show on my laptop.
