Brickington Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 How can it be April Fools when it's the April 2nd?
Scubacarrot Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) I just noticed this now, this is a great one, guys. Awesome. Edited April 2, 2013 by Scubacarrot
Artifex Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I think the site is good the way it is. I don't think it should be centered on Americans, Europeans or people from any other continent. We come here to talk about Lego. If you are thinking about changing the name and address of EuroBricks, then change it to something else instead of this or that point of view -- make it GlobalBricks, WorldBricks, Uni(versal)Bricks or something along those lines. I'm not European, i'm not American (at least not in the way people usually mean it -- for I'm SOUTH American) and just by checking on people's countries, I'd say Eurobricks is a global, universal communitiy, not a community centered on this or that culture. Mind you: I have no problem whatsoever with Americans, Europeans, Asians or with people from any other place/people/culture/background, but I don't think the focus of the site should be this or that people/culture. The world has been -- and still is -- moving to new, borderless days -- especially since the internet -- and to change the name of a forum/website to one that focus on this or that culture is a step back in my humble opinion. And so we chould go global, universal, not narrow it to this or that point of view.
Scubacarrot Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Just wondering, is April Fool´s not a global thing?
Kai NRG Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) Just wondering, is April Fool´s not a global thing? No, it's not. At least down here they have the same sort of thing I believe, but it's the first of May(?) (not 100% sure as to date). Edit: I "get" it though, I am from America. In case that wasn't clear. Lord Admiral Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I propose the Ameribricks skin stay up indefinitely for all U.S. IPs. Though, IMHO, "Brick of the free, site of the brave" might be a more fitting subtitle for Ameribricks. After all, it would certainly be very brave people visiting a site where they throw bricks into the air and shoot at them while constantly shouting "megabluck yeah!"
Rook Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Best thing about being offline on April 1 is logging in on April 2 and seeing all the suckers that didn't notice what day of the year it was. God bless America!
Vindicare Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Hooray! It's still here! 'Murica forever! I can't wait to get home to see if my toaster has been updated.
Artifex Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Falling for April's First on April's second... Priceless...
ZCerberus Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Joke? We had a very long and heated discussion about how to grow "EB". It became clear in the course of the discussion that we felt the name could be holding us back. Flash forward and bam, problem solved. Welcome to AB.
Legofin2012 Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 So just to clarify it was an April fools joke wasn't it?
Devorath Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 No, it wasn't. Ace! Just deal with it and be 'MURICAN!
RaincloudDustbin Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Joke? We had a very long and heated discussion about how to grow "EB". It became clear in the course of the discussion that we felt the name could be holding us back. Flash forward and bam, problem solved. Welcome to AB. Yes the old name wasn't inclusive enough.
Hrw-Amen Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Oh, I thought it was an April Fools joke as I did not think anyone would be so brash and obtrusive to suggest such a name in reality, surely it must be a joke, but now it is still here and nearing (But not quite there.) April 3rd I am not so sure? I have to say that one of the things that drew me to this forum as opposed to countless others was the 'Euro' in the title seeing as I live in Europe. If it had been called Ameribricks I would have likely steered well clear of it and got no further than the name. As i have got into the forums I noted that people were members from all around the globe and so wondered why Eurobricks? But anyway after reading the reasons that seemed OK. I would support a change of name but not to this. Any change of name should reflect the global nature of our ranks and not just one country or continent even if they do have the majority of members. It will just put the rest of the world off joining and become a self fulfilling prophecy if this name is kept. I suspect I will gradually loose interest as well if it tends towards an American way of presenting things (See Ameribricks banner for a start!) and I will no longer post here, which will be sad, but if we are not wanted then we get the picture. Please if we must have a name change, make it all inclusive, Globalbricks, Earthbricks, Unitedbricks, whatever, not not related to any one country, that I would support.
harton Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Maybe the moment chosen for this announcement was not the better one... Why haven't done this on May 1st? It would have been clear, no fool there. I do hope members will sitll stay on EB, I wouldn't be surprise if some members decide to give up and pass to something else, unfortunetaly... Let's have faith!
UrbanErwin Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Call me stupid but because my English isn't perfect, Is this serious or a big joke?
horizon Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Really? I thought it was april 1 joke. The url still says Eurobricks...
Flying Ace Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 (edited) I am so hoping that this is still a joke. The stereotyped banner gives me hope. I am a US citizen and live in the USA, but I could care less whether a great forum about a great hobby is "American," European, Asian, or anything else. Why Eurobricks is a fine name for the site: LEGO is a European-based company and their product is still made largely in Europe (can't say that for most 'Murican companies). Much of US culture comes from Europe (as much as we try to pretend otherwise). Heck, most of us are only a couple of generations away from immigrant ancestors. I cannot imagine a US citizen AFOL who would not be open-minded enough to join an English-language LEGO forum called "Eurobricks" and if they were not, they wouldn't really belong here anyway, would they? If it's not a joke, at least tone down the banner please! We don't all wear cowboy hats and watch football over here! Hey, it's time to feed my ostrich... Edited April 2, 2013 by Flying Ace
harton Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Really? I thought it was april 1 joke. The url still says Eurobricks... Well, If you actually click on the link in the annoucement you are redirect to the Ameribricks site which is : ameribricks.us/forum So of what I understand there is two version from, the European one and the American one...
Carousel Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 So it's real. Yay. Happy. I never personally thought of Eurobricks as being specifically aimed at one audience in particular (Europe), the colour scheme didn't blatantly yell one single country's patriotism, the European branding was minimal, and I found the site to be very universal. Eurobricks staff, look what you've done now. AmeriBricks is an atrocious name, catering to only one nation alone, it sounds terrible, the new forum colours are garish and bloody ugly, and it's far from universal. You guys stuffed up.
UrbanErwin Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I just realised something. I didn't see a single comment from Jipay in this tread. And he's is practically the godfather of everything here, so where is he?
Chilly Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 I take it this was an April Fools Day Joke. No., I haven't bothered to read all 11 pages........
Kristel Posted April 2, 2013 Posted April 2, 2013 Pretty please change it back. Emma is not coping at all well with the change ...
