April 1st to April 2nd is a few days? I'm trying to remember if April 1st to April 2nd was a few days in 2012, but that was like 10 years ago!

Well the post about the changes was put up on the 31st, not the 1st. And it's about time for me to go to sleep--so that's about to be 4 days for me. Anyways, regardless of the day, my thoughts on the change stand; that it's bad.

Hmm... The name ticks me off a lot less than the banner, but to be no-corners-cut honest, I hate the idea of even calling it Ameribricks. It's so weird that I'm American and protesting it, but I just don't like it one bit.

I love this new site, it's about time everyone understood that LEGO truly favors the U.S. Hence why we get the best prices, sets, etc... :sweet:

Hell yeah 'Murica! And Ameribricks!

The stereotypes of America discussed in this thread are fairly amusing, but what really gets me is that the skin (bright blue + dark blue + red) hurts my eyes to look at. *huh*

I don't get it, people. :hmpf: Why are there so many people who say that Ameribricks makes them feel unwelcome now? Geez, you buy american food, you buy american gadgets, you watch american films, etc. And the ratio of users (read the first post carefully) is 4 americans to 1 non-american! 4 to 1! 4 times more!

Now isn't it fair that the majority gets what it deserves? Isn't that true democracy? Ameribricks.com all the way! :sweet:

Good day, ladies and gentlemen! ) :classic:

You know whats funny? The people that are complaining about the new name are the first ones that when people complain about things they didn't like about "eurobricks", would tell those individuals..

"If you don't like it, then leave"

So let me be the first to say.. If it bothers you that much, then leave.

Eh,kinda on the fence.I like every thing about this new website 'MURICA!!,but I don't know if this is a continuing joke..eh.

I'm welcome to it though.Ameribricks.com all the way!;)

I like the idea very much! I have never favored the big European idea like the Euro and all that money eating people in Brussels. So Ameribricks, there we come... I also heard that Holland will vote to become part of the united states in 2014 b.t.w. Obama thinks it is a great idea since it will be easier for all those poor Americans to get weed...

Eurobricks never screamed out their European origin, never smeared the sites nationality in your face with garish, ugly colours, with stupid mottos and stereotypical characters. That's exactly what AmeriBricks does, and to you, Eurobricks staff, while you meekly tried to make the site more appealing to your largest audience, you've weakly turned your back on your origins, and on every other country that isn't the USA. Pathetic, and shame on you. I'll be continuing to use the site all the same, but I'll still call the it Eurobricks, not some misguided April Fools joke that never ceased to stop.

I'd suggest that you tone down the American patriotic colours and get a more neutral motto, and if you do that, I, and quite a few others, will be quite a bit happier. I'd also suggest, in the future, against launching major site changes on April Fools day, no matter how foolish they are.

Rant over.

But non-Americans are feeling unwelcome or excluded, it's the site that I've got issues with not the hobby.

Where did you get that idea! I'm loving all these going-ons! I live in NZ!

Oh noes! :cry_sad: Will you come back if we change the name to UKBricks? Or RaincloudDustbinBricks? :cry_happy:Pweeeeeeeease!!

Because that hasn't gone against everything I've said in the thread has it... No need to be rude here. If I'd done that to you or anyone else, I'd be off.

Oh I vote for that. Or Englandbricks or Brickland.

And now I see the stereotype comes true - once there are enough Americans they immediately change everything into something...American.

Eurobricks never had to show european flags and symbols (like the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben or the Brandenburg Gate) but Ameribricks has to be filled with American symbols - stars and stripes, statue of liberty, football player, cowboys...

Why? Does anybody need this in a global connected world? Is this site dedicated to Lego fans or American Lego fans?

And yes, I read the ratio of users. I still hope it's a joke and it ends soon

Okay, this is real serious. I don't like the change. You keep the site normal with just a simple name change, and I'm okay. But smear it with cheap, american horribleness and I instantly start thinking I should quit the site for good.

Yes, I know most of this site is american but that is no good reason to change the entire site to be american. There are people from other countries on this website, so why not call it Nationbricks?

Yes, Eurobricks was unfair to the American users, but it is about the same to the other users from other countries with Ameribricks. Create an international site that represents most countries in the world, I'm fine. But create a patriotic site that is created specifically for americans and ignores others? I'm out. I thought this is a joke but it's gone too long.

Yours sincerely,

Its probably just going to be an Ameribricks month, if a month at all. :look: Even if it is a permanent rebranding, it doesn't affect the LEGO discussion as a whole, so I don't see the issue.

Some of you guys are probably seriously tempting the Admins/Mods to leave this up as long as possible, some of the comments are so funny...

Seriously though, "A rose, by any other name, still smells as sweet"...

Couldn't agree more.

It now looks cheap and tacky, like one of those side shops that try to sell everything going with a *I love (insert random national flag/country)* on it for tourism that you wouldn't normally be seen dead buying unless its just to appease those not on the holiday with you that would like some sort of memento for the holiday that they never went on.

To all those 'if you don't like it then leave' people, Eurobricks staff ASKED for our opinions so gtfo your high horses, we are offering our ASKED FOR opinions.

So what if the user base is now 4:1 USA/Everyone else people? Why should that dictate it should now become Americanised? That is NOT democracy, that is dictatorship, for all you 'that's democracy for ya!' people, try learning something. None of the people were asked in a vote, it was just done.

Congratulations on making a decent site look tacky and in your face.

If that's the case, then there was no reason to change it in the first place.

Even if it is a joke, if you are that mad free feel to leave. I think it isn't the best, but who cares? It's still the same site, same forums, same content, etc. And that's all that really matters. I can see people getting mad if the staff decided to delete, for example, the LEGO Licensed forums, but becasue that changes the true content of the site. I just don't understand some of you guys...

When I first saw the banner change I summarily dismissed it as an April Fool's joke. And frankly, part of me still hopes it still is one that has just dragged out too long.

For the record, I consider myself to be first generation "American" and I am a U.S. Citizen (my dad earned his U.S. citizenship fighting in Korea - I was born and raised in the U.S.) I served my country for ten years as a special consultant for the government, particularly in the areas of defense, intelligence and law enforcement and let me tell you, I do not find "Ameribricks" particularly welcoming or attractive. If anything I think it promotes the worst of "American" stereotypes and belittles the distinguished (and inclusive) history of this site.

Aside from the name change, I find the banner graphics particularly offensive. Other than the blue brick and the fact that I've eaten ostrich filets, there's nothing there that I, as an American relate to; it's a cliche mockery of how other people typically see us when Fawlty Towers needs an obnoxious guest character or when Woody Allen introduces pretty much any American who doesn't live in Manhattan. I've played exactly one game of (American) football in my life and don't even bother watching the Superbowl. I've never worn a cowboy hat (or outside of a Halloween Party) met anyone who does and it really bothers me when watching the opening ceremony of the Olympics every few years and they dress up the US team like Country Western singers.

If those stereotypes are wrong, what is it to be an "average American"? Well, speaking as one:

My favorite westerns were mostly filmed in Spain by and Italian director.

My favorite dishes are mostly Italian though I also enjoy Indian, Chinese and Ethiopian cuisine.

I haven't set foot in a McDonald's in over 30 years.

I enjoy British comedies and French Cinema.

I buy gallons of milk but 2-Liters of soda.

I don't own a cowboy hat but do own a kilt.

I've played more games of Cricket than I have of American Football, though I'm rubbish at both.

I'm a Protestant, my wife is Catholic; we have friends who a Jewish, Moslem, Wiccan, Hindi, and generally agnostic.

I have a favorite city abroad (and it is Edinburgh).

I've never been to the Statue of Liberty, Washington Monument or Mt Rushmore (not saying I'm proud of that, just pointing out facts).

My neighbors are U.S. Citizens as well, between us, we speak English, French, Italian, Portuguese, Cambodian, Greek, Hebrew, Chinese and Farsi (that I know of).

As I said I am an American, and rebranding the site Ameribricks and promoting stereotypes is a joke in very poor taste (clever for April Fool's, not so much at this point).

One of the biggest reasons I thought this was a joke was because the original posting referred to American "sensibilities" and "point of view" Anyone who actually knows anything about the "typical" American knows that there is no such thing. As with anywhere, certain demographics have certain biases, but with only 300 million people to draw from, I doubt you'd be able to find any two people with identical backgrounds, tastes or views on issues. That's the beauty of this place - the vast majority of us simply agree to disagree, embrace the things we have in common and take pride in the things that make us each unique.

If Eurobricks wants to be more "American" it should call itself Eurobricks to honor its origins and welcome everyone regardless of country or origin. Oh wait, that's what you were doing all along, why change?
