Some people comment about the discussions here, which should stop. At the same time they fire it up.

I guess it is about time to stop with this so called 'joke'.

E: I'd like to ad that I do not intend to offend anyone, so please don't feel that way.

All these party poopers need to relax. If it is a joke, (it is) I don't think it's getting old. On the contrary, I think it gets better and better as the days wear on. Everyone expects a joke on April Fools. Then the joke becomes that it wasn't a joke, and people begin to get worried. And maybe, just maybe, when all is said and done, the joke becomes that it was in fact a joke all along, and everyone gets to smile and laugh. The only thing that's getting old is the people who can't play along, who will look very silly when this is all over.

So, does Ameribricks have any very American contests, sweepstakes, or other events planned?

Little piece of advice, the longer you get on over how this is a bad change and it is offensive and so on, the longer the banner will stay up. Also remember it takes (some) work for the admins to change the banner back, you can't expect them to do it at once. Also let's all stop and appreciate how cool the banner actually is, I think it's photographed very nicely. Appreciate your admins, guys, Ameribricks isn't a paid service, they do this with their own time. I think the admins are allowed to have their fun for a while, don't you?

No... no... let's fire it up  (and no offence taken, and not wanting anyone to feel that way either, but I do think many of the comments are just priceless)

Seriously, this isn't a joke, Ameribricks is here to stay

Reminds me of FBTB back in 2009 (?) when they changed to Power Miners... wow, people sure got upset then too.

And that wasn't a joke either

And unfortunately, that is what I am now seeing.

Trolls.

I thought the Lego community was a bit more mature than that, at least here on Eurobricks for how it was moderated...

Seems they have allowed it to descend into something which lets forum trolls have free reign to offend people and seem to be backing it by allowing this farce to continue without ANY input from the forum moderators whatsoever.

Keep trolling and fanning the flames guys, let's see what this 'nice Lego community' is really like...

My thoughts on this:

First, I was a bit annoyed, then I supposed it to be an April's fool, then I wasn't so sure of it, and right, now, I still don't know what to believe.

Anyway:

I like your motto: "Site of the free, brick of the brave". I have no idea what "brick of the brave" means, but it sounds great

As for "The Plan":

- I wouldn't have a problem with rebranding the site to AmeriBricks per se.

- What I found quite irritating is the announcement that the "site graphics were reworked to better match American visual sensibilities." I found that irritating since I didn't understand why Americans should have different visual sensibilities than Europeans or people from other nations, nor what these visual sensibilities were, nor how they could be better matched. After giving it a thought, I came to the conclusion that, for me, it falls into the same category as "brick of the brave".

- I was equally, maybe even more, irritated about the plan to "shift the focus of our discussions to a more American point of view". Usually, the focus of our discussions is about Lego, and I couldn't realize how this focus could be shifted to a "more American point of view". After giving it a thought, I came to the conclusion that, for me, it falls into the same category as "brick of the brave".

- So I came to believe that this is an April's fool. On the other hand, some time ago, I came to believe that you guys are pretty weird :classic: , so then again, maybe it's not.

It's all these wildly varying opinions and heated discussion that really gives this joke American authenticity, not the theme.

This is just a (hopefully) a bad joke. Maybe we should put a for/against poll at the top to sway the admins if it's real. That may accomplish something.

It's a play on the Star Spangled Banner ('O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave').

I agree, is it possible to set one up here?

America is also to blame for marketing watered down/"lite" beer, NASCAR, and reality TV shows about 3rd grade drop-outs with severe tooth decay who wrestle alligators for a living, but I'd really prefer that these not be the first thing people think of when I tell them I'm an American.

Now those are insulting stereotypes. If that was in the banner, you would have something to actually complain about

Actually, the cowboy is a creation of Spain... etc

Thanks for the history lesson. Now tell the rest of the world that cowboys aren't American.

How about this: Cowboy's were made famous by America. Is that better?

Now if you're saying that the "cowboy" is a "recreation" of America (that is to say, take something with foreign roots, rebrand it as your own, gloss over inconvenient facts, and market the hell out of it until most people don't remember the truth of it's origins), well then I wholeheartedly agree with you.

 I hope no Spaniards are offended by this.

I whole-heartedly agree with you there, where we differ is in what constitutes a "great world icon." I'd rather be associated with the moon landing than the Superbowl. There are a lot of great things about America that aren't tired cliches - unfortunately cowboys and football are none of them.

Note to mods: put a moon in the next banner. Moons are not cliched.

It's childish, I know...

You hit the nail on the head there, son

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong, but the only reason for the changed look(if it is not an April's joke) is the supposition that American LEGO fans need something familiar in an international LEGO forum? Because that would imply that many American users feel uncomfortable when they visit a LEGO forum and see no sign of their flag or some cowboys or any of the other stereotypes and that's a thing I can't believe.

I have thought about this for a day, and I want to express that I am extremely disappointed by the lack of civility demonstrated by some in response to this change/joke. I have not read every post in this thread because the venom spewed forth by some (representing various sides) was not worth spending the time to read.

There is certainly nothing wrong with expressing an opinion, but please keep in mind that when it is expressed in a vulgar, demeaning, vile, rude, hurtful, or condescending way it says more about the person stating the opinion than it does about the issue being discussed. When posting in the future I kindly invite all members of this forum to please think twice about civility (regardless of the "hot topic" being discussed) and post once.

I just don't get why this, assuming it's only intended as an April Fool's Joke, is still up. April Fool's is April 1st, and only April 1st, so keeping it there makes no sense whatsoever. Also, considering the reactions expressed here I'd say that's all the more reason to get rid of it because why would Eurobricks owners/admins want to keep people arguing? Especially when the site usually is policed rather swiftly and sternly. Keeping it up and letting this thread continue makes me feel like those in charge of Eurobricks don't care what people think of their site, which is rather surprising and disheartening.

I honestly believed Eurobricks was changing its name to Ameribricks, and was like *huh* , until I saw the date the topic was made on, which made me  .

After reading through this whole topic, I don't know what's funnier, the April Fool's joke or some of the comments being posted here. Either way, I'm laughing my butt off.

I'm not laughing! This has gone on too far! I don't know if this will last longer until reverting back, but I am anxious for it to at least tone down, banner-wise.

To be honest, the 1st time I entered this site, it was through some search I made in google about lego pirates, and that has been my only interest for remain in this site, even when I feel a little dissapointing to give a whole month and such interest in themes like "friends", "sponge bob" or fabuland, I never complied since I entered directly to classic pirates and didnt payed much attention to anything else. Also, when I found Eurobricks, I felt like a special place, very refined I must say, but with this change I am afraid to say it lost all that feeling.. I dont mean to be rude but,... I am not a fan of U.S. ... at all :/ Either it is a joke or not, I am not liking this.
