Hi,

after building all official supercars of Lego technic i'm looking for a challenging MOC i can build... currently my short-list consists of these available MOCs:

Nat Kuipers Ninja Supercar:

Jurgen Krooshoops Koenigsegg and Sunbeam Supercar:

Crownkillers Vampire GT:

Nico71's roadster:

Nat Kuipers Concept Car:

For all of them there exists good instructions and all of them seem to me very well done cars for which i assume the building is a pleasure (BTW: Thanks to all for offering such professional building instructions!)

But now my question to these people who have already build some of them: Which one would you recommend (concerning building challange, construction quality, playablity etc.) if you could only build exactly one of them (i know this is a hard and maybe impossible decision  )

Thank you in advance!

P.S.

My own preference currently veers towards the Ninja supercar...but its only a very slightly preference...

If I were you, I would build the Concept Car... It is really well done and also designed by a former designer from Lego.. The Ninja is also a good choice if you have the 8458 Silver Chanmpion and 8466 Off Roader...

well, i see - so i venture a prognosis: i will get at least 6 different recommendations so i will be as wise as before

so i add another criterium: which one is the most complex build?

The Ninja is probably the most complex build of the group. I've built the Vampire gt and it is extremely well done. It has a really cool new style gearbox and the flawless AWD dash switch and it has a great unique look. I want to build Jurgen's Koenigsegg next and also the Pony Car by Nathanael.

I just about finished this one up(waiting on some parts for the tail lights). It was a very fun build, well desined and the instructions were excellent.

indeed - this Ford GT is quite astonishing - but without BI more or less un-rebuildable...

That Ford GT isn't bad at all. Not a fan of the type of gearbox that it has though. I have yet to see one of those push/pull rod ones work right.

This is very personal preference. I have built all of those cars and all are unique and distinct. Your choice will depend on what you are looking for from your build experience and also what you part collection looks like.

The Kuipers silver Supercar was an exercise in making a working model out of a fixed parts palette. It uses only the parts from 8458 and 8466. This makes it easy to collect the parts: just buy those two sets. But it also means this is not an optimized car. Lots of strange parts choices had to be made in order to make it work with those parts. If you find that kind of thing interesting, you will like this car. Note also this car uses all 10+ year old parts and building methods. Again, you find this good or bad depending on your preferences.

The two cars from Jurgen use studded chassis and a studless body, so they are a good mix of old and new parts and methods. They are very sturdy and well made.

Nico's car and Crowkillers' Vampire use fully modern parts and building methods.

In terms of function, all of these cars have gearboxes, suspension, and all the other good stuff you'd expect from a supercar, so they are very satisfying to build. I think the choice comes down to what kind of building style you prefer, what parts you have, and appearance.

thanks to all for responses..especially Blakbird for its very detailed recommendation...

Well, i have 8466 as well as 8458, so i think i will start with the Ninja Convertible... i read the interview with Kuipers at TB and i found his statements concerning alternate models very intersting - i think building something new with a fixed parts palette is quite challenging so i want to see this "alternate" model from these two sets...

I don't care about the "modernity" of parts or building methods - all technic building methods and parts have its pro and cons and are great for me... so a mixture of studded and studless (as with the cars of Jurgen) sounds very promising...so probably i will try one of these next (BTW: any preferences between the Sunbeam and the Koenigsegg?) - after building the Ninja...

And the Vampire will bring to a close my supercar MOC-series... i think these together will be a nice collection :classic:

again many thanks for this very helpful response!

You will enjoy it. Note that NK did not make these instructions, they were made by a fan starting with an incomplete CAD file. Last time I built it I found that there were a couple of errors in the instructions or things which couldn't quite be seen in the views presented, but you should be OK if you are willing to put some thought into it. If you want a copy of the CAD file to help out, let me know.

That's a hard one. Personally I think I would give the nod to the Sunbeam, but not because it is better. I just find it more unique. The door mechanism on the Koenigsegg is really cool though.

thanks for the hint and the offering for the CAD file... but one question before: There are two versions of instructions for the Ninja out there - i have currently downloaded the v2-version from rebrickable (http://rebrickable.com/mocs/nathanael/supercar), which is obviously different from the first version (much bigger PDF-file, more building steps etc...)... so my question: do you refering to this v2-version?

BTW: probably my lego technic build skills are high enough to correct some errors or invisible parts...

For the CAD-file: via search function i haven't found a thread which helps for this topic... there fore a short question: Could anyboby please give me a pointer where i get some starter informations which software is needed for handling these CAD-files best? Thanks a lot!

The instructions I have are unsigned but are 88 pages. I got them before ReBrickable existed. I just checked and those seem to be longer (111 pages).

Go to LDraw.org and download the All-in-One Installer and you will have everything you need.

One more candidate:

The GT car of Nat Kuipers, also build from 8466+8458

gts.jpg

How would this compete with the Ninja supercar? which one would you prefer?

For me at least exterior facing of the GT seems to be more straight forward, cleaner, more "quiet" and smooth, if you understand what i mean...

Is the GT less complex to build or missing some features compared to the Ninja Convertible?

Thanks a lot.

If you have 8458 and 8466, then you can build all 3 of NKs "silver cars". I've rendered all of them here for comparison. In order of complexity, they go:

  • Silver Sports Car
  • GT Car
  • Supercar

I built all of them in that order. The one I keep assembled is the last, most complex model. It is by far the most complicated and uses the most parts. They are all good though. Note that there are no instructions for the GT Car.

Hmm, there are instructions for the GT car because i have them: a 127 page PDF... but even after 30 min racking my brain i can't remember the site from which i have downloaded it...

If i remember i will post it here....

ah, well,. here we go - V2 instructions for the GT car: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=40561&st=25#entry1244183

I had the same issue! After I made my post I found a copy of the instructions on my hard drive but couldn't remember where I found them. Glad you tracked them down. Better build all 3 then.

Happy building! I'm the one who made both the instructions for Nathanaels GT-Car and Ninja Convertible.

ah, good to know: many many .... many many (should be 1000 times  ) for this good instructions and your effort!!

  • 1 year later...

Hi everyone

I'm new to eurobicks and I'm a technic builder to, I'm on youtube https://www.youtube....kgHiaCdR_M9EUpA thats the link to my channel.

I thought I would create an accout since I saw recognisable famous technic builders here, and saw how this website is used for technic builders and fans to communicate with each other and update each other with mocs, questions and news.

Since this topic is about technic supercars, I wanted tobring your attention to my latest moc https://www.youtube....h?v=g2Zh_J4vwsQ because I will be making

a MKII version with instructions available to the public, If you are interested, please subscribe to me and follow me on google+ for updates about the instructions release;

instructions will be limited to 39 people.

As you can see, on my profile picture you can see my moc which I am talking about, if you like what you see please subsribe and follow me on google+ and youtube.

Thank you for your time :classic:

Please consider applying for instructions :sweet:

Yes, I was struggling to design a powertrain which could handle the vast torque of 2 Xl motors, and yes I am building a MKII version

which will be a vast improvement, It will have a sleeker and more realistic body shape, it will have a motorized gearbox and should

have all the functions of the first model. The first version was the first motorized supercar I had ever built.

Again the MKII version will be smaller, more nimble, and it will have a huge turning circle, instructions will be later available. But it does stack up decently

to its rivals, like, there is a model of a laferrari on youtube, and also recently a 918 spyder, and my p1 is faster than both of them :wub::tongue:

Also I see your the technic hall of fame editor, would my moc be worthy there?

Remember that looks are very important too,its not just about functions.

No I am afraid the looks of the car are not there, remember it's not just functions I look for its styling as well.
