Gideon Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 (edited) Somewhere in the Siccus Badlands, not far from the Arkbri River, is an ancient watchtower is located on top of a spire of rock. It is now in the hands of the Arkbri Falcons, a band of mercenaries led by the notorious Ediz Falconi. Right now the AF are fighting for the salvation of Kaliphlin against the Hand of Corruption forces, or at least fighting them because Sir Gideon and his wealthy friend Emad ibn Sohail al-Haboob has paid them a lot of gold to do it. The AF are using the tower as a base of their operations in the area, and have so far been quite successful in stopping some of the Hand's smaller raiding parties. The locals call the tower "Falcon's Nest", both because of its inhabitants and because of its appearance. The tower is easy to defend as there is no way up except by a rope ladder which the defenders can easily raise, and they are also stocking up on provisions to be able to withstand some time surrounded if a larger enemy force would appear. The rope ladder can be lowered to allow access: Bringing in provisions to the small garrison: Steps hewn in the rock, once they extended all the way to the top but some defenders centuries back decided to remove most of them Edited April 3, 2013 by Gideon Quote
Maxim I Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Wow, nice! I like how you made the ladder and the stairst! Also a very beautifull tower!!! So it was Sir Gideon who already paid them to fight for him! We knew it was one of our Kaliphlin brothers, so that's why we didn't bribed them Quote
Brickington Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Very nice build! I love how you made Kaliphin looking with the tan pieces, but still kept the castley style. Great job! Quote
soccerkid6 Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Really well detailed tower for the size of the base The rope ladder and crane are superb and I like the stairs that are left Quote
Gideon Posted April 3, 2013 Author Posted April 3, 2013 The size of the base was the input I had to work with, I built this for a Swebrick competition where the base was restricted to 16x16, and the base of the castle to 8x8. Of course I took the opportunity to show the Kaliphlin colors! Quote
spzero Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 really nice MOC love the colours and the texturing of the rocks Quote
Kai NRG Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Very creative tower with the rope ladder entrance! Great way to get food up there! And the crack on the back is a very nice detail! Quote
harton Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Wow, really a beautiful tower, I'm just wondering where they are sleeping?! Nice colour choice, I really like your base, so simple and different but also very little! Well done. Quote
Niku Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 The build has a lot of personality. It depicts a believable scene. The use of parts and colors and detail is the best. Quote
Garmadon Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Nice tower, I really like the cracks in the tower, the rope ladder, and the crane. BTW, does the tower have an interior, or is it solid? . Quote
SkaForHire Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 Awesome build! So that is where those guys came from!!!! I really like the arrow slits and the feel of the this twisted fortress. That rope ladder and the jutting room it drops out of is very good too. Quote
-Carson Haupt- Posted April 3, 2013 Posted April 3, 2013 This looks good. I like the contrast between the dark grey rock and the tan tower. The arrow slits are sweet. Quote
Infernum Posted April 4, 2013 Posted April 4, 2013 Nice! I'm loving the arrow slits and the crack on the tower! Nice work! Quote
Gideon Posted April 4, 2013 Author Posted April 4, 2013 Thank you for your encouraging comments! Wow, really a beautiful tower, I'm just wondering where they are sleeping?! [...] Usually the garrison is only a few men, and they either just sleep on some straw or in their bedrolls on the floor inside the upper floor (the one with the arrowslits) or in cots hanging between hooks in the walls. Most of the year the probability for rain in the Siccus Badlands is very low and the nighttime temperature is quite pleasant, so often like many other of the inhabitants of Kaliphlin the soldiers in this tower find it most comfortable to sleep on the roof. If a larger force is present, they would camp on the ground in the same way as they would do in the field anywhere else since this is not a fortification built to hold a large army. Quote
robuko Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Lots to love here. A very nice design with lovely detailing in the effaced stairs, rope ladder, arrow slits, crane and masonry. The transition from rock to human structure is always a difficult one, and this is a good effort to show it on a small base. Another superb build! Quote
Evil Porkchop Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 Nice tower! I really like the texture of it and how the spiral stairs lead to a rope ladder, very cool. Quote
Ecclesiastes Posted April 8, 2013 Posted April 8, 2013 "Emerging out of my dark age, one brick at a time." That's sure paying off! Stunning texture and tower design filled with details such as the crack and the part where the rope ladder comes down. Quote
Mike S Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 Nice tower! I have to say that rope ladder is a brilliant idea! Quote
