Hey Joe Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Yeah, really beautiful. The art deco style and colors really attract my eye, wish that were mine! Joe Quote
Kristel Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Another stunning building, Snaillad! You can almost feel the happy seaside holiday memories being made there! I'd like to book the suite with the blue bathroom and wooden floors. The art deco features of the building are exceptionally well done, as are all the interior details. My favourite parts, however, are the landscaping and other details around the driveway entrance and the outdoor seating areas. It all looks so inviting. The curved edging created by the 1x1 round bricks is just brilliant. Quote
KristofBD Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 The exterior and the scenery are simply stunning! Quote
snaillad Posted April 5, 2013 Author Posted April 5, 2013 Thanks to everyone for the kind comments. I read them all! I am also delighted to be front paged, thank you 'Rick'! Rather than create a massive reply of thanks I've picked out a few below; Just fantastic, as usual, and such a quick turn around from your last creation! The colours are so vibrant and inviting, like a warm day at the beach. It looks fairly small on the outside, but the interiors reveal that this is not the case, the detail inside is excellent. Just needs some neon lighting to go with the style synonymous with Miami's Art-deco hotels! Thank you! I lost all my desk space making 'Avenue Saint-Jacques' and knew this would be expansive, so thought I better do it now otherwise I'd never do it! I was tempted to incorporate some lighting especially on the sign but never got around to it. WOOOOOOW!!! Love it! The facade: even if this kind of architecture is note my taste (to each his taste), I find it really really nice and very well done! The "minute car stop" is sympathetic. I find black a bit to much "hard" and contrasting against this light colored facade. The interiors are... splendid! So much details, this luxury atmoshpere ... But where are the stairs or the lift???????? You've made there another really really great MOC (I also really enjoyed your lastest one, St Jacques)!!! Congrats! Thank you, it is a stark contrast to some of the buildings I have done before but glad you liked it! Perhaps the black is a little harsh but I didn't have enough grey to match the driveway with the road off the pavement. I chose not to do any stairs as it's open backed I figured all the front facing windows would all be used as rooms for the view. That might be the best thing I've seen since I joined this website. Thank you! Absolutely gorgeous! And I'm really impressed that you furnished it ALL! I'm curious, how many parts did you use in total? Thanks! I would probably guess 5000 pieces or so. I suppose this could vary slightly depending on swapping some bricks for longer ones. I love this . I wanna go there on holiday! But where's the beach and pool?! This deserves to be Thank you very much, I never been blogged on classic town before A lot of the postcards boast they are 'right on the beach'. It's probably round back somewhere! It's fantastic! I'm looking for a place to go to on summer holidays, and I wouldn't mind booking a room at your Cocoa hotel! There's so many fantastic details. All the snot builds are great, and adding many rounded structures give a special 'personality' to the hotel. My favourite are the details on the fence at the front, the rounded driveway with flowerbeds, the hotel sign and rounded shelves on the building. Also the colour scheme is nice in combination with geometrical shapes (squares, stripes and circles). The interiors is equally impressive, and again the geometrical style is nicely continued from the exterior. The glass wall near the bar is great, and the rooms are very stylish and spacious. I like the slightly different bathroom styles. Thank you! I was very pleased I finally found a use for those 1x2x6 arches on the veranda. The glass wall was one of the last things I made, I had to think of a way to partition the bar from the lobby, I may have to get some more of those 1x2 clear plates, as I think they are quite effective! Another stunning building, Snaillad! You can almost feel the happy seaside holiday memories being made there! I'd like to book the suite with the blue bathroom and wooden floors. My favourite parts, however, are the landscaping and other details around the driveway entrance and the outdoor seating areas. It all looks so inviting. The curved edging created by the 1x1 round bricks is just brilliant. Thanks! I've never bothered much with landscaping before, but got various greenery at a PAB wall and had been meaning to use it. The curve was a nice way to hide the jagged edging of green! Any opinions, questions or comments always welcomed! Quote
King Aragorn Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Gorgeous work! I love this hotel! The inner details are fantastic! Quote
castor-troy Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Fantastic job, as usual. Do you build a complete town in 1930's style ? Quote
jonwil Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Nice job, really looks like it would be at home in Florida somewhere (probably right on the beach) Quote
Erdbeereis Posted April 5, 2013 Posted April 5, 2013 Fantastic work. I love the cheery color scheme and the smooth design and curves. How did you transition from the sideways bricks to the studs-up bricks under the hotel, and how did you attach the little "islands" where the cars drive by? Again, great job, I really like this. Legogal Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Wow! This does belong in South Beach it looks so authentic! Way to go with all the details both interior and exterior...soooo inviting! Congratulations on a fine build! Quote
LEGO Historian Posted April 6, 2013 Posted April 6, 2013 Very nice Snaillad!! When I saw your MOC... I immediately recognized it as the Carlisle.... I have a book on Miami Beach Art Deco architecture... and this confection is in there. You even got the Terrazzo floors down pat! Back in the 1990s when I got that Art Deco book... it was the time of the LEGO Paradiso line of sets... and I thought how cool... now we can make a South Beach hotel!! Just never got around to it.... The Spumoni colored pastels, as well as the more neutral tones in the Carlisle, are what make Miami Beach so inviting! Great job!! For anyone wanting to make an Art Deco Miami Beach MOC... this book is an invaluable source of history and images... http://www.amazon.com/Deco-Delights-Preserving-Miami-Architecture/dp/0525483810 Quote
snaillad Posted April 7, 2013 Author Posted April 7, 2013 Gorgeous work! I love this hotel! The inner details are fantastic! Thank you very much! Fantastic job, as usual. Do you build a complete town in 1930's style ? I wish I had enough bricks to build a full street in a 20's-40's time period! I was originally going to do 2 hotels side by side but quickly realized I would not of had enough room or bricks! Perhaps my next building will be the 30s style cinema I've wanted to do for ages! Fantastic work. I love the cheery color scheme and the smooth design and curves. How did you transition from the sideways bricks to the studs-up bricks under the hotel, and how did you attach the little "islands" where the cars drive by? Again, great job, I really like this. Thanks, its one of the styles where I can get away with bright colours! Well originally I thought I would just tile the driveway but then the it would look too similar to the pavement/sidewalk. The driveway is made in 3 sections, all 2 bricks thick. They lie on tiles from the base plate which matches the driveway to the height of the sidewalk. The two flanking 'curves' keep the central drive-piece in place. The exterior road (attached by 1x4 bricks with studs on one side) keeps those two flaking pieces in place. 10 studs long works out at 8 + 1 plate on the side, so that's what size I chose to make to eliminate gaps on the driveway. Also its wide enough to accommodate the cab. The islands are just stacked as normal onto the base plate. Wow! This does belong in South Beach it looks so authentic! Way to go with all the details both interior and exterior...soooo inviting! Congratulations on a fine build! Thanks! The interior was just as fun to furnish as the exterior! Very nice Snaillad!! For anyone wanting to make an Art Deco Miami Beach MOC... this book is an invaluable source of history and images... http://www.amazon.co...e/dp/0525483810 Thank you. I didn't have much reference material of any of the Miami hotel interiors, especially the bedrooms, as they have probably changed much over the years. I just made the lobby design up, I had a sun motif but took it out as it was a little to squared and swapped it for something replicated from the exterior. I liked the idea of having a yellow and pink exterior like I believe the Carlyle used to look but couldn't source enough pink with spending a fortune. To be honest I took elements from a several hotels and made others up as well as the colour scheme. Most of my reference material came from 'Art Deco postcards' by Patricia Bayer., which has a lot of interesting worldwide material. Quote
Dieselbabes Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 New to this forum, just started to collect Modulars, wow!! I am Speechless, love it !!!! Quote
CMP Posted April 7, 2013 Posted April 7, 2013 The only thing unrealistic about the postcards is that I can hardly believe hotels on the beach ever looked this nice.... Fantastic model. It's an awesome blend of 50s-style architecture with the atmosphere of beachside hotels. The colors are just perfect for the feel you're going for, and the interior is really great, too. Quote
