Posted April 8, 201311 yr Inspired by numerous visits to England in past 10 years and several train journeys made there, one of my first larger builds was a railway station in small English town. To the left is a station building, with an old signalling tower with green roof in the background, the platforms are connected by an overpass. Today is a special day as a local group of train preservation enthusiasts is presenting a recently restored vintage train and the journey is about to start. Aerial view. The vintage train obviously draws a lot of attention. As you may notice the right track is moved away from the platform, the reason being the width of Emerald Night which would bump into the platform wall with its rods had the track been positioned just next to it. Station building, street view Station building, platform view View along the platforms A busy street near the station Overpass connecting the platforms The old signalling tower. It has modern signalling equipment installed... ...yet some signals can still be controlled with more dated technology. Dead-end track. Not in use and signalled appropriately. Underpass Road vehicles. You can read more about the taxi here, while the bus is mirror-image MODed from City Corner bus. More pictures here.
April 9, 201311 yr Oh my, - your railway station is amazing. I love the way that the older station buildings, signal box and station surroundings have been so tastefully updated for the modern era. I used to be a keen modeller of the LSWR in 'O' Gauge some years ago so I still get a thrill from seeing British railway models that are nicely presented. Lovely work; - are you intending this to be a part of a larger layout, - or will this be a stand alone diorama?
April 9, 201311 yr A fantastic build and I snickered at the contrast in your opening sentence (a large build of a a small two station)
April 9, 201311 yr Excellent MOC Kivi! You put in a good deal of detail. I love how the road runs underneath the rail line!
April 9, 201311 yr Author @all: Thanks! are you intending this to be a part of a larger layout, - or will this be a stand alone diorama? This is - or rather, it was as it already disassembled now - a diorama of its own. Though many fellow AFOLs remarked that it does look as if it had been taken out of a larger display.
April 9, 201311 yr Amazing diorama!! It's a shame it's been disassembled, would have loved to have seen it grow into a city. Brilliant work in any case tho :D
April 9, 201311 yr I really like it. I've seen a lot of these stations and you caught it perfectly. What's on the advertising panel next to the street?
April 9, 201311 yr That's an amazing MOC and like others have said, it would have been a great start to a bigger design.
April 10, 201311 yr Author What's on the advertising panel next to the street? This is a sticker on glass from 10184 Town Plan, see here. They are perfect to use as advertisements, either stand-alone panels or pasted on the wall. Very detailed... and millions of bricks Not really millions, but some 6.000 were used here. If I had millions of them I would probably have built it in miniland scale. Thanks again @all for comments.
April 10, 201311 yr This is a really nice station scene. I like how it is raised up and the road is underneath, there are some wonderful details on this bridge section that are very similar to ones I have seen in my travels. Also the signal box, it is simple but somehow effective and the little pipes with the control equipment coming out of the side is a nice touch. I could go on, but I won't. It is enough to say that I like this a lot. One thing you mention is about fitting the EN into the platform, I have this trouble with a lot of my steam engines, so make all my platforms able to take it and rebuilt the coaches to seven studs wide so there is not such a big gap for the passengers.
April 11, 201311 yr Lovely train station Kivi. The integrated bridge and road tunnel are a great touch.
April 11, 201311 yr Amazing. I really like the underpass, and the depth you put into this whole scenery.
April 12, 201311 yr As I've seen this MOC on display, I praised it (and the builder) at the event. After a while, I did forget some of the details, so it's always nice to see it again. I don't know much on trains, but as I mostly build town buildings, this is something I only wish to make. The completeness of the MOC is its strongest part. It looks a simple build, but has many interesting and clever ideas incorporated and hidden from just a glance. The combination of red and dark red is really nice. The elevated platform is realistic and the arched constructions are as seen in UK (and probably elsewhere). And most of all, welcome to EB, Kivi.
April 13, 201311 yr Fantastic station! I love this huge MOC, the tan wall with the white fences is great! Your layout looks like a real thing!
