CONCLUSION

Li'l Capt. Redblade stands alone in the garden.

8651043494_6400755887_z.jpg

"Are we still playing? I thought the game was over. Was I expected to play? What about voting? Am I expected to vote? Do you want me to interact with people? Should I try? What about reading the day thread? Are we supposed to read the day thread, and post? Why won't people just play for me? How is someone going to expect me to play myself? Just because I signed up, doesn't mean I actually wanted to play. Some people, sheesh."

His griping just rubs the remaining five the wrong way.

8651043482_c4c6308d2e_z.jpg

"You guys are all sheep! The way you work together, and oust the single remaining person who doesn't participate! Total sheep!" The crowd is having none of it.

"Get a haircut, ya lousy bum," somebody, probably Li'l Nightshroud, yells. Then they start on the poundings.

8649944099_460601eda1_z.jpg

Punches, kicks, hair pulling, and a hard sacking or two. Li'l Capt. Redblade won't be walking away from this.

8649944045_5d47d21a5d_z.jpg

Inside, Mr. def has a rousing compliment to pass along. "Congratulations, all of you, you have taken out the final scum! That's it! They're gone! You win!"

"Yay!"

"Furthermore, you all pass! Congratulations!"

"Yay!"

8651043394_2a61331cfb_z.jpg

"Except for you, Li'l Zepher, you cheated on day one by clearing yourself with your PM role, you fail!"

TOWN WINS!

Nice job! Well-played, town!

Here are the night actions:

PLAYER FEEDBACK

This is done alphabetically. And as always, the host is not privy to PMs, so I can't comment on that at all, and all this has to be taken with a grain of salt. If you worked hard, and I can't see it, you'll have to have that personal fortitude to not be offended.

Li'l Boy Wonder- You had three big blunders in this game. The first was doing very little in thread. Since others were participating, it made you stick out. Second, you didn't try to recruit one night. I can imagine your frustration at not being successful the first few nights, but statistically it was the thing you had to do. One recruitment would have swung the game. Third, you didn't defend yourself at all. Those are all things to keep in mind in the future. The 'no defence' thing is basically just dropping out on your team.

Li'l Callmepie - You did great. I'm sure you're tired of praise, but you were not a strong player two years back, and you definitely are now.

Li'l Capt. Redblade - You dropped out of the game due to studying. I never had that sort of constant studying routine in school (maybe why I'm hosting mafia games for a living now ), but you let your team down, whatever the reason. Play, be active, and don't quit. That should be your motto in a game like this.

Li'l Cecilie - You got Dave'd out of the game. One thing I can say, you didn't do the TrumpetKing thing and kill every night. If you had, town would have lost. So being prudent with your night action helped keep town alive. Your role in the wrong hands may have doomed town.

Li'l Chrome Knight - I heard you did stuff in PMs. You were spotty in thread, but very active when you were on the chopping block, which was great!

Li'l Cornelius Murdock - You weren't able to do much, but on the bright side, you're turning into the new Rick, dying as soon as possible. I look forward to seeing you play scum some time.

Li'l Danny Longlegs - You weren't around during or after the game :sceptic:

Li'l Endgame - You did a solid job, especially after being brought into the masons.

Li'l Fugazi - for whatever reason, you pinged a lot of people hard, but I don't know if it was on purpose or not. I don't know what to say.

Li'l Hinckley - You did a great job sucking info out of people. It's amazing that even though these games are chosen at random, a handful of people just assume you're town.

Li'l Kieldaman - I was really glad you played. You are an ideal vanilla player. Right or wrong, you are out there playing. No excuses.

Li'l Nightshroud - You got a lot of commendations from your team. I think of you as a quieter player, and in this case it worked well.

Li'l Palathadric - You were lynched for being scummy, and I don't know how much was on purpose. Hopefully it was partly because you were being active.

Li'l Pandora - You got Dave'd as well. I think you did well in your strategy, but I think in thread you looked like a PR. If you were a little more out front, you may have looked more vanilla. It didn't have anything to do with why you were killed though.

Li'l Peanuts - You were fairly active in thread after using your one-shot ability, but I'm surprised you didn't just claim it in thread.

Li'l Pirate Dave - Yeah, you know what you did. It's one thing to blab your own secrets, but blabbing others is the worst! You kind of do wreck people's game. I was pissed for Hinck doing it to me in the Pearl. It really is a case by case thing, and sometimes it's good to blab, but in this game, all information should have been filtering into the Masons, and nothing going the other direction. Your name will become a verb for shafting other players by blabbing, so that should teach you. "Don't Dave me, man! You'll wreck my game!"

Li'l Rick - You did a good job maintaining your normal attitude in thread. If someone compared your scum game to your town game, it would be hard to see a difference. With that in mind, I totally agreed with the questioning about why you were alive on day five. It's meta, but it's true. And also, you and Hinck always work so closely, so I thought the distance you were keeping looked scummy. But that was me knowing what was true.

Li'l Scouty - You got shafted. There was little you could do.

Li'l Trumpet King - you claimed scum in thread! Great! You shared your info with Hinck! Not great! You should have shared it with two people, at least, and not told the others who you told, but only that you told someone else. If you had done that, Hinck may have felt obligated to reveal what you told him about Boy Wonder in thread, to not be proven a liar. When you just share with one person like that, there is no obligation. Still, a decent, active day one.

Li'l Walter Kovacs - You did really well for non-cleared townie. I had a similar situation in The Forest, where I was suspect for not being recruitable, and I told those guys, you need to be smarter than a single night result. Look at the play, not that one result. In that case, I failed, but you were successful here. Good job. And I appreciate you understanding every time I had to say no to you. For example, when you were blocked, you were still considered as targeting who you did. If you were to have been tracked the night you were blocked, the tracker would have gotten the results that you had targeted them. I don't mind clarifying rules and roles in PM at all, it's important for the host to clarify things as much as they can.

Li'l Zepher - you did fine. You were safe the first 2-3 days because of that PM snafu, but after that, you were easily suspect as a recruit. You acted with the town block and kept you from having town waste PR actions on you.

def, thanks for the great game! It was a fun roller-coaster ride, from being on a desperate townie situation to actually pulling off this in the end. :sweet:

Great job to the rest of the town, especially to the first masons Pandy, Nightshroud, CMP, Dave, Endgame as you've laid out the foundations for the eventual town victory.

Special kudos to CMP's revelation/sacrifice on Day 5 + Dave's sucessful tracking of Hinck on Night 4 that proved to be the turning point for the town. Also a great game by Nightshroud for playing an effective under-the-radar "who would've thought he was an original mason" game.

Lastly, Walter, I'm sorry if I was hard on dealing with you in this game, both publicly and privately. It was really difficult to trust someone who had that "unrecruitable tag" on his back, so I'm glad you were right all along.

Woohoo Town! A special thanks to everyone I played with behind the scenes, there was arguing and it almost looked like we'd lose but we pulled though! Probably the most exciting Mafia game I have played! :sweet:

Town had a very lucky break in that scum killed scum early (which was part of the original plan, to balance the potential recruitments), and scum didn't manage any recruitments. If BoyWonder had managed to argue his way out of a lynch, and had one more night to recruit, there would have been a very strong chance of a successful recruitment, as both Peanuts and Walter were recruitable. Also, one night, there was no recruit attempt, which was a big mistake.

Town definitely won, but it was slim. Scum let it slip through their fingers.

I think Redblade could easily have argued his way out of his lynch, since there was suspicion on Walter and Peanuts. If he claimed that a mis-lynch on him could doom the town, letting scummy Walt and Peanuts reach parity on day nine, the masons really would have to rethink their lynch. Scum needs to try to the very end.

All the same, the remaining town were all fairly active, putting a lot of stress on the scum. Town definitely won.

Whew! That was a loooonggg wait!! It sucks to be lynched first. Again. Congratualtions to the town! And a special shout-out to Hinck for tricking (?) me into claiming scum!

While Rick and I were terrified of Pandora and had to get rid of her because we knew we could never win against her, the biggest pleasant surprise was how you managed to stay concealed as the other recruiter. You're definitely one to watch out for in the future. You struck the perfect balance of seeming Scummy, so that we never wanted to kill you and never revealing your Mason status, so we never wanted to kill you. Excellent work. We never stood a chance against a Mason that could freely recruit every night.

As I alluded to, great job Pandora! As I've told you now in private, once I realized you were a mason, I knew we would be in trouble. I really didn't think at that point that Dave would track me. I thought he trusted me, but it's a good thing he did. I really thought I had been caught when Dave told me the group PM with Walter was over. But, it turned out that it was Walter he suspected because we mason blocked him. It's too bad it was a clean sweep from my lynch though. Pandora did a great job at changing her behavior from Day One to Day Two making it seem like she could've been converted. You were very hard to read and when I tried to broach the subject of Dave and the obvious Masons and if you guys were sure about lynching Walter Kovacs, you tried to seem Scummy and it backfired and seemed really Townie to me. That was so confusing for me. I knew you were a Mason and I had agreed with Dave and Pie to be the mouthpiece but I couldn't get a definite target from Dave. He was so adamant about Walter one minute (which would've been hard to make a case against him without revealing the "evidence") and then told me to hold off the next. Boy Wonder was clearly lying about the bodyguard, but for some reason the choice ended being Chromeknight. And I wish I would've contacted Boy Wonder one night earlier. We knew he was lying, but weren't sure if it was a sting. Then Rick pointed out, it was too early to be a sting, due to the fact I was still trusted. Anyway, maybe we could've helped Boy Wonder not make sure a poor decision to mason block Dave. It seems like he was low on recruitables anyway at that point.

Boy Wonder, what caused you to target me, Rick and Pie?

I was rather disappointed that Rick was lynched right after me. What was the reasoning behind lynching him? Not having the benefit of seeing the Mason discussion, it seemed like an odd choice after you guys had been saying Walter would be next.

Oh, lots has been discussed on the dead board and I'm sure we'll discuss it all over again. Whee! What fun.

Whew! That was a loooonggg wait!! It sucks to be lynched first. Again. Congratualtions to the town! And a special shout-out to Hinck for tricking (?) me into claiming scum!

Thanks. Too damn bad I didn't realize The Boy Wonder's lame attempt at infiltrating the Scum was actually a lame attempt to connect to the other Scum team. To think we could've connected on Day One! But I never would've approached Boy Wonder based on what you told me. I thought he'd have to be completely daft to be so blatant and careless. What do they say about hindsight? :snicker:

I don't think Redblade would've been able to talked his way out of his lynch. The last three masons (Shroud, Zeph, me) were all fairly convinced Redblade was scum, including Walter who I've been talking to privately. His inactivity and suspicious scummy behavior on the last couple of days were convincing enough for us, but his refusal to vote for Rick was the final red flag.

Always fun, def. I shouldn't have played this time due to time constraints, but I also couldn't resist. I don't deserve this win, but its the first game I've ever lived through, so that's exciting. Congrats to the masons and town for a great win. Nightshroud, Pandy, Pie, Dave, you guys were a huge and great force this game. All scum - great game, we were on the ropes for a while.

Well, yay, it's all over! Go town! Thanks def for hosting another fun game, they're unique and exciting.

Though, I would have to say I had more fun post death than actually playing. That was all just stressful. Some things to reflect on and bitterness get over. It's great to have host comments on the dead board, really appreciate those def, definitely made me keep up with the game after my early dismissal. :classic:

Big props to Pandora and Nightshroud (never woulda figured you as one of the original masons!) doing a good job with the masons.

I can't prove it, but I think there was a way to argue it. I believe you thought he was scummy, as I would have too.

I said it in the deadboard, and I'll say it again here: it's not the failing, it's the not trying that is the problem.

I was rather disappointed that Rick was lynched right after me. What was the reasoning behind lynching him? Not having the benefit of seeing the Mason discussion, it seemed like an odd choice after you guys had been saying Walter would be next.

Combination of several factors:

1. Rick was playing a very convincing 'town game', so convincing that Dave trusted him enough to elect him as Mayor AND they tried to recruit him on Night 4. The failed conversion on him really cast a huge doubt on him.

2. Mayor Rick surviving the night without getting killed added to our growing suspicion.

3. Then on Day 7, Rick contacted me and Endgame as our Mayor - it rubbed us the wrong way, we thought he was trying to fish for info.

4. Between the two "unrecruitables", Walter convinced us better that he was the "more town" between the two with his lengthy PM chain posted in the game thread.

5. Metagame reason: most of us were very wary that a player of his caliber is still living at that point - so it's either he was converted by the scum due to his convincing town game from the start or he was scum after all.

It was a risky move for us to switch from lynching Walter to Rick, so in hindsight we were really glad we took that risk. And it really helped that Walter worked doubly-hard both privately and publicly to prove his innocence.

EDIT: Added Reason #2.

I'll give you a hard time about the day one role PM thing for a long long time, but overall, you did good. I think you deserve the win. You could have been recruited, and a day one vanilla clear meant little in this game. That'll do pig, that'll do. :classic:

The host has so many things to say! I insinuate a little in the morning vignettes, but I really can't say it all. Having an omnipotent eye over things gives me an unfair advantage in critiquing things, but it should be considered as feedback, for better or worse. Whether players know or not, all hosts keep an eye on who pays attention to things after they die, even in games they aren't hosting. Players who wipe their signature of their mafia identity the moment they die are less beloved. When you sign up, you sign up to the end. The deadboard is meant to support that.

Speaking of which, Danny, where the hell are you?

2. Then on Day 7, Rick contacted me and Endgame as our Mayor - it rubbed us the wrong way, we thought he was trying to fish for info.

This was mentioned in thread and was aggravating to watch. Obviously, you made the right choice, but how was he fishing when Dave said to contact Endgame? Wouldn't it have been worse if he hadn't contacted you? It was frustrating to watch and not be able to help at all, but when you guys called it fishing, I couldn't understand what would've made a better approach. You elected him Mayor and then thought he was fishing when he followed through with what Dave told him to. Should he have just said "Hey, I'm here at your service."?

3. Between the two "unrecruitables", Walter convinced us better that he was the "more town" between the two with his lengthy PM chain posted in the game thread.

A longer chain? Just the length made it more believable? I admit our PM chain between me and Rick was completely made up. So, really, you guys did everything right. I'm really just frustrated that all the ground work we laid was ultimately for naught. But when I saw Walter post his PMs, I thought it was an easy thing for someone to do that had been recruited. And if Pie thought that Dave had actually connected me and Walter, wouldn't our PMs have gone the same way, not knowing each other's affiliation?

This is why I've decided that PM posting won't be allowed in my games. It's way too easy to prove what is said behind the scenes. I've never seen a successfully falsified PM and posting an entire PM conversation or inviting someone into an existing one too easily exonerates people. I have a new theory that PMs are private and therefore stay private. People can paraphrase what was said, but there's too much proof in PMs. Yes, this favors the Scum, but it's a delicate balance for the Scum to spin all of those lies in PM. What do you guys think? Do I feel that was just because PM posting just made my team lose?

You guys did an awesome job. I'm just finally getting to ask the questions that I couldn't ask while frustrated and helplessly watching my team go down, one by one.

And good job Walter at convincing them as well. When I first came up with the idea to tell them you had killed Pandora (I originally was going to choose Nightshroud since so many people were suspicious of him :snicker:) I was hoping that info would never come to light because I didn't want to have to accuse you and argue over it in public. That would've been hard to do. That was why I was waiting to make sure the Masons were sure before I accused you. The plan was to use none of the NA action results to stop those Scummy Scumbags from connecting, but who would jump on a Walter bandwagon based just on his posts? :look: Ah well... win some, lose some. :snicker:

I said it in the deadboard, and I'll say it again here: it's not the failing, it's the not trying that is the problem.

We anticipated Redblade's possible alibis, like an argument that "if he's scum then why would a fellow scum (Rick) would vote for him considering they're thinned out in numbers". It would've made us doubt I'd give you that. But I think he miscalculated when he tried to not vote for Rick to save himself, if he did that then there might've been a chance we would've believed him.

But yeah I agree with you, we were actually susprised he didn't put up one last stand. This is where I remember Tamamono's classic never-say-die fighting spirit in IMHOTEP!

His PM to me was actually of the generic type "Hey I'm your Mayor, and it would be good to establish contact and talk about the game...". But it was his PM to Endgame that had a lot questions on what was happening behind-the-scenes, especially asking about night action results - which we though was too much asking for info for someone claiming vanilla. As one of the masons (I wouldn't name him ) said: "Rick really wants to know a lot of things, for a vanilla townie. Why does he need to know any of this? If he's town then he should be content with the masons." Then we tried to compare this with how Walter conversed with us privately, he never asked for night action results, the overall tone of his PMs were more cooperative and concerned, and we saw how he worked hard to prove his innocence (there were lots of case scenarios he presented).

Of course it wasn't just the length (believe if or not, we actually did read through that novel-length PM post ), but we saw the genuineness of the PM, thinking it was something that would be hard to fabricate (even Zeph, who at that time wasn't still a mason, saw through that). We did entertain the possibility that Walter could've been converted and he's just using this PM evidence to prove his innocence, but on the other side other evidences also piled up on Rick (failed recruitment, surviving the night as mayor, his "fishing for info" PMs), ultimately we collectively concluded Rick was the scummier of the two.

But I agree with you, Walter's posting of his PMs really helped a lot in convincing us, so it might've been unfair to the scum(?), so I'd understand if a new rule regarding public posting of PMs will be implemented in the future.

or inviting someone into an existing one too easily exonerates people.

Walter asked if he could do that, and I told him no. That goes against the spirit of the rules. There are so many ways to cheat, as the rules are stated now. But players need to follow the spirit of the rules instead. Only once have I invited someone into such a conversation, and that was Murdock in the Forest I, because I just wasn't in a place to play. That was bad play, and in general, it is bad play.

Walter asked a lot of things, and I think they all got a 'no', so I deeply respect his asking and respecting the answer.

This sounds to me like I'm arguing for you to have fallen for the lies. Which I am, but I'll continue. Sour grapes and all that. :snicker: This is the trap I fall into when I'm playing Town leader or whatever. People want to know what's happening. I try to chalk it up to an idle curiosity. I'm sure Rick wasn't asking Endgame questions that he was going to use the information from. Rick isn't sloppy like that to go fishing for info. I think telling a Vanilla Townie to just be content with what they're told perpetuates the problem of lazy Vanilla Townies. In that position, verify a person and then engage them. I hope the reason was more that he wasn't verified and not that he was vanilla as that's aggravating to hear that Vanillas are supposed to just follow the PRs or Masons. Boo to that. Seriously, boo.

And surviving the night as Mayor? Didn't we let Pie live for one night as well? Did you really think we were just going to kill the Mayor every night? There was too much threat of being watched. But since I was the Watcher, we shouldn't have been worried. :snicker: Seriously, surviving as Mayor is a really bad reason to lynch someone. Bad winning Townies, Bad!

Really, good job. Even if your logic was flawed and you forgot to fall for the lies and give us a fighting chance. Couldn't you just have lynched Walter to give us the slightest glimmer of hope? :cry_sad:

As far as it being a new rule, I think it will be up to each host what they want to do with public posting of PMs.

Ah, and there was no watcher. There needed to be a pinch of ambiguity in the roles. Hinck was lucky to claim a role that wasn't there, and unlucky that town didn't believe it. Surprising, really.

Rick seemed overly townie, and the fact he was still alive later on seemed suspicious. I didn't see how a player as good as Rick, who was acting townie, could be alive at that point. Unless he was scum.

I didn't want him to be mayor, but he was elected. Eventually we did get him lynched; on the evidence we had was what Kiel posted. Other than that it was just a gut feeling of mine, which isn't much to go on.

Hinckley was a straight-forward lynch, and I was glad when you were killed  Can't trust the strong players. Redblade didn't vote with the masons on, day 7? And, of course, Boywonder had evidence against him.

I'm not sure why the scum tried to recruit Hinckley and Rick early on, that doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Although we won I feel I could have done more, I didn't contact anyone else behind the scenes except for Walter. I also didn't step up until after Callmepie died. But I'm satisfied with how the game turned around and how I played. I had pretty bad judgement on who was scum early on though, except for Hinckley. But I didn't have the balls to go after you without any evidence.

Boo, you cheater! Honestly, I had a couple people tell me they thought I was either PR or Scum and I figured it was because I was online and posting while you were deciphering your PM and I didn't respond to it at all. Rick and Redblade both incriminated themselves responding to the whole ordeal. I saw people saying the same to Rick: "You're either Scum or PR". I don't know if it's because of your, once again, not reading your God-damn role PM, but then using it to your advantage, but it certainly made us sweat for a second.

Congratulations on surviving.
