Hinckley Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 ... It's hard to conceal that you know something!! I need more practice with that... You were awesome with it in IMHOTEP.
Cecilie Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 You were awesome with it in IMHOTEP. Maybe because I was so clueless I didn't really have much to say in the day threads anyway Oh, and it's a lot easier to hide being an investigator, than knowing who's made what kill....
Piratedave84 Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I know . I totally messed up... I was kicking myself for not being more careful long before I got killed... It's hard to conceal that you know something!! I need more practice with that... Tell me about it!!!
fhomess Posted April 17, 2013 Posted April 17, 2013 I have to say, that I'm really surprised at how well the scum did in this game given the difficulties they had. Killing one of their own on night 1 and failing to recruit ANYONE? It's impressive that they survived that long, although I didn't follow the latter days in detail other than to see who was coming and going. This is why I've decided that PM posting won't be allowed in my games. It's way too easy to prove what is said behind the scenes. I've never seen a successfully falsified PM and posting an entire PM conversation or inviting someone into an existing one too easily exonerates people. I have a new theory that PMs are private and therefore stay private. People can paraphrase what was said, but there's too much proof in PMs. Yes, this favors the Scum, but it's a delicate balance for the Scum to spin all of those lies in PM. What do you guys think? Do I feel that was just because PM posting just made my team lose? I believe the I've twice been cleared as townie by having someone post PM's I've sent them that they interpreted as scummy. The rest of the players read my PM's differently as if I were townie. I think it was in Ragnorak when Draggy outed me and another time I don't remember the details of. That said, I don't like the posting of PM's as it takes away an element of gameplay that I think enhances the game - interpreting and conveying what others are saying to you and passing that information on to others. It simply makes the game more interesting when you don't know exactly how someone worded things. While it might help scum a little, town can take advantage of that ambiguity, too. How dare we survive? That must mean we're Scum. Great. That'll be a hard one to overcome from now on. I can understand the frustration here, but in this game the mason mechanic makes that different. The mason recruitment meant that town had a confirmed block. That's not too different than any other confirmed town block that's based on more traditional night actions. To be outside of the town block in those games ALSO generates suspicion until you're confirmed by other means. In this game, the double recruitment possibilities meant that almost every player was going to have a connection to one side or the other enhanced by more than just behavioral analysis. Like it or not, metagaming is a part of that additional analysis in every game, so I think you're overreacting here. Were that really the entire basis for the lynch, then yes, but everybody needs somewhere to start and this seems like reasonable grounds for suspicion. Honestly, unless you were locked in school where your cel-phone is forbidden, I don't get why people have excuses like this. I agree with the sentiment of this post, but don't assume everyone has a smart phone. I don't, and I actually even know of a few people who still don't have cell phones at all. As I said, though, if you commit to a game, finding a few minutes here and there over the course of a 72 hour day should be a priority you make time for. That's what the commitment means. I'm glad you had fun and learned something, Dave! I shook my head a lot at you in this game, Dave, but I'm also glad you learned from it. It's easier to learn from some mistakes than others. While I didn't agree with what you were doing at times, it was clear that you invested a lot of time and energy in trying to do the right thing, which is great. I think it's really important to recognise what an amazing job Hinck and Rick did. Very much this. Hinck took advantage of his reputation to infiltrate the town, and Rick's reputation helped get him lynched eventually. Ultimately, those reputations are well earned. Shroudy, your cover is blown! You are a far better (and more active) player than you allow others to believe, and it was fantastic to work with you! Nightshroud has had some fantastic games as town PR's. Wasn't he the vig in Cirque du Freak? I always find him somewhat scummy, though.

As I said, though, if you commit to a game, finding a few minutes here and there over the course of a 72 hour day should be a priority you make time for. That's what the commitment means. I didn't mean for that to be taken as literal as that. I was trying to imagine a scenario where a person couldn't use a computer for days on end, and other than a camping trip or being locked in a boarding school, I can't imagine a situation where you can't manage some time daily at a computer. And even if it's not the case, it's better not to sign up if you can't fulfil your commitment. Most of the players haven't hosted, so they won't exactly know the feeling, but a host puts in a lot of hours. I don't expect players to match the number of hours of the host, but it is frustrating when so little time is spent.
fhomess Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 Understood. I am a little sensitive to the smart phone thing because it is becoming increasingly assumed that people have them. I do appreciate the time the host puts in and feel like I've always given the games I've been a part of an appropriate level of effort.
Scouty Posted April 18, 2013 Posted April 18, 2013 I sent in posts (and sometimes received) with a telegraph, so I don't know what the problem is

No worries, I was just clarifying I don't want to make it sound like the whole world is connected to the Internet, but to be fair, this is a web forum, and Lego is not a toy for desperately poor people. I just expect that 99% of posters here have an Internet connection in their home.
Palathadric Posted April 19, 2013 Posted April 19, 2013 Thanks for the great game, def! In the first two days I was just trying to play more or less regularly, but on Day Three I was a bit frustrated and just went down the deep end in trying to be scummy. I'm glad I at least trusted the right person in CMP, even though the information proved 100% useless and ended up getting CK killed again. So CK two games thus far. You also can't say I didn't try to get you killed in Bedtime Story.
