Risgrynsgrot Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I was wondering if anyone had ever been to or worked at a store that can help me with this: I really want certain minifigures and don't want most of the sets they come in, when going to a toy store, I notice that a lot of boxes are broken or ripped open and I was wondering if by any chance, store owners or managers keep these sets to sell or throw them out. In the case that they throw them out, do you think they'd be willing to let me have a peek at some broken boxes and keep a minifigure or two for my collection? I know I'd have to pay them something, but I think it'd be faster than bricklink and cheaper than buying a set that I know I don't want. That sound pretty illegal. At best I assume you could buy the set for a discount due to the damage (as in the whole set, like a 50 dollar set would go down to maybe 30-35 depending on damage)
kibosh Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 Chances are, if someone ripped open a box in the store, they were after the minifigures anyway. It's really sad. I see more and more evidence of this at some stores.
Legogal Posted February 4, 2014 Posted February 4, 2014 I see ripped open LEGO boxes every time I am in WalMart. Very very sad. Not sure what they do with them. When I first started collecting LEGO for me (after 15 years of buying it for our boys), my favorite colors were light yellow and sand green. Both were very rare at the time. I did not know about BL and bought many bricks off eBay. Just happened to notice a seller offering some new light yellow bricks and made offers on about ten of his auctions. It seemed almost no one noticed the listings because I won most of the listings for under 10US and picked up for about 5US around fifty new 1 X 1 light yellow bricks, which seem to have never appeared in a set. This was around 2007, and it was quite risky even looking for light yellow bricks because most eBay sellers did not know that color and listed all kinds of colors as light yellow. Today I still consider that my best find even though I had no idea how rare that brick is. BTW you can often buy one new brick like that on BL for 2US or more, but no one seems to offer more than one new one.
Galaxy Explorer Posted February 7, 2014 Posted February 7, 2014 Got a Simpson's House today at LEGO on Michigan Ave. The box was slightly squished on one side, so they offered an extra 500 VIP points. I saw that as getting me $25 closer to picking up the SSD. I'm glad they've found an alternative to discounting exclusive sets- it was a great incentive!

I haven't heard an offer like that, but it sure does get around the policy. Great find!
lowbike1 Posted February 8, 2014 Posted February 8, 2014 I found the monster fighters hearse at the Vancouver lego store for $11.49
HawkLord Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Alderwood Mall Target has a couple good clearances - 79013 Laketown Chase for $34.99 and 9493 X-Wing for $41.99. Also some Chima stuff that I don't follow...
Carrera124 Posted February 9, 2014 Posted February 9, 2014 Got a MISB 1092 for 76€ (link)... Bricklink seller wants €699... and MISB 3431 + MISB 3432 together for less than 5€ (link)... these sets don't seem to be very popular.
Robianco Posted February 12, 2014 Posted February 12, 2014 Alderwood Mall Target has a couple good clearances - 79013 Laketown Chase for $34.99 and 9493 X-Wing for $41.99. Also some Chima stuff that I don't follow... Why the hell can't I get a Laketown Chase for £22?! I reckon even with import duty etc it will still be cheaper than buying it here in the UK! I've been looking for the last 2 waves of Harry Potter sets recently and picked most of them up. For me the best has been 8481 Hogwarts Express which is missing a few pieces but nothing a small BL order can't handle for just £36. The only thing on the mini figures is Luna's hair which I already have a spare of. The Luna Figure and Ginny Weasley sell for more than that alone. Very happy!
legoman666 Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Got a 6991 with about 95% of the pieces for $125. All of the track, baseplates, motor, electronics and bogeys are present. Pieces are still shiny, just dusty.
SnapLock Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 I got a small tub of Lego from a Garage sale for $30 Aud, At the bottom of the tub was two 9 volt train motors & a My Own Trains 10017 Hopper wagon ( i thought the hopper wagons white bricks were all stained turns out that's the official color of the bricks lol)
LegoDad Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 Picked up a 100% Harry Potter 4757 Hogwarts for $100 locally. Very nice box with it as well.
Lego Otaku Posted February 14, 2014 Posted February 14, 2014 A brand new Turtles polybag 30270 for only 1.80 at Goodwill. About fainted because most Goodwill don't have new LEGO sets these day, only opened and store returned sets missing pieces. (almost always missing minifigs)
InvincibleEagle Posted February 15, 2014 Posted February 15, 2014 Aside from normal clearance priced sets that I buy exclusively, I found a Goblin King Battle set at Walmart for only $30 since the box was open. Everything was included.
Godtshep Posted February 19, 2014 Posted February 19, 2014 Last May I got 8161 Grand Prix Race, Jungle Cutter and Anakin's Jedi Starfighter off of eBay for £40.
SeanM Posted February 24, 2014 Posted February 24, 2014 I scored the Haunted House for $12.99 at Goodwill this weekend. Sealed bags, mint box. It's like a parent opened it, realized it was too complex for their kid and immediately donated it. -Just had to brag :)
Maniac4Legos Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I got the polybag 30187 (unnamed Creator polybag) at Target for $3.29. Cheapest and most recent polybag in the store! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-dCWE9qmq3rY2hhVUlYOUt5V3hjSFhvQTB5Uml1cmt5YTNN/edit?usp=sharing https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-dCWE9qmq3rZHFndlJ1blo2NVNydGdFMklNR0VzMGZlUHBj/edit?usp=sharing Hope these can be viewed! Let me know if there is a problem During the summer of 2013, I walked into a pharmacy store that I knew carred LEGO items. They had a table with items marked 50% off, and what did I find there?...The Tower of Toa set! Originally $50, this was marked down to $25! I was so happy to buy this set, now about 8 years old! Haul shown here: In the same store I found some Ninjago spinners from 2011, still at $9.99. Although the price didn't change, I'm happy that it was not increased. This store still carries a Toy Story set, Army On Patrol, for $9.99, as well as a few other discontinued sets. In 2013, I saw Walmart installed some new Chima sets, at the time new, and they were marked at $11.99 (regular $14.99). Haul shown here: Right now, in Target, I have seen many Chima sets on clearance by 25-50% off. See my images below. Sorry if blurry. Zanki Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I got this haul for around £50-55 in the last two days. Morrisons is having a sale and they also have 20% extra off with a staff discount card (I have a relative discount card).
Clone OPatra Posted February 26, 2014 Posted February 26, 2014 My local LEGO Store must have gotten fed up with Lennox' Lion Attack, since they marked it down all the way to about 8 US. I'm not that interested in Chima, but I couldn't pass up a deal like that.
beaugrand Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Just got back from a toy store. I found a 6093 MISB Flying Ninja Fortress for €74.99! I think it's a good deal considering prices on Bricklink. Its condition is almost excellent and i grabbed it instantly. It was probably forgotten there and there is hardly any shelfware or dust on it! man thats incredible lucky u

Solscud007 Posted March 10, 2014 Posted March 10, 2014 (edited) Target and Walmart in Pittsburgh has been clearing out some Lego sets. I picked up: 70709 Galactic Titan at Walmart for $49.99 (my friend got one at Targe for only $30!!) 79104 Shellraiser $17.86 I got two of them at Target. Returned them to Walmart for full price and bought a Jabba's Sail Barge with the store credit. 75005 Rancor Pit $17.86 at Target I would have gotten more if I could find more.
