minifgure_fan Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 I've been pretty lucky in the past few years. One of my major finds was on Craigslist, an older man was selling his son's old bin of Lego, and I managed to grab it before anyone else got it, $20 or $40 if I remember correctly, and guess what was inside? Many classic town and space sets along with 2 floatyboats! (What I call Lego boats that float in water.) Otherwise, the only few other rare things I've found are the Discovery Space shuttle with misprinted box (No set name) for $40, and a MISB Battle of Metru Nui for $50 in a small toy store called Salaria. I also saw someone selling Café corner for $45 (no box), and someone else selling the Railway Express and an Insectoids set for amazing deals, $75 for the train and $45 for the Insectoids thing. Sadly, I haven't gotten them yet and i'm not sure she even has them anymore. So all and all, i've been pretty lucky.
TypoCorrecto Posted September 20, 2010 Posted September 20, 2010 (edited) Just bought 6543 Sail N' Fly Marina on eBay for $73 total, missing only the instructions and most the stickers. Not too bad, I figure no more than $10 more for instructions and I know how to make my own stickers. Not sure if anyone would qualify this as lucky but its definitely the cheapest I've seen and cheaper even than the original MSRP. Edited September 20, 2010 by typo
The_Customizer Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 I just got the Snowtrooper BattlePack, sealed, for only $3.00! Box was damaged a little, but otherwise fine!
Follows Closely Posted September 21, 2010 Posted September 21, 2010 (edited) Wow thats an incredably nice find. I'm also curious, how much did you pay? I paid $400 USD for this. Sorry for the late reply. I just finished assembling all these sets. Another 4 sets where mixed in with other sets. I need to sell off 1/2 of these to pay for the find. This was good, but not as good as my latest find #188. Edited September 21, 2010 by Follows Closely

rjk1977 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 bought a couple of months ago 2 sets (8275+8285) for 180 euro's

evilempire22 Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Just picked up the Winter Toy Shop (10199) from Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002ACUC0O?ie=UTF8&tag=f0f5-20&linkCode=as2&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B002ACUC0O --Evil
minifgure_fan Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 Just went to a garage sale today and picked up a giant tub of bulk bricks with pieces from the Mos Eisley Cantina, 1st edition Hogwarts Castle, Quiddich practice (not the new one), house of gryffendor, and many other sets for $25!!!!!
Lego Otaku Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 Only thing I found Lego related is a Duplo bin #2997 at Goodwill for $19.99 (ouch). I checked inside and all I saw were some non Lego toy.
LEGOMAN132 Posted September 26, 2010 Posted September 26, 2010 8053 Mobile Crane for $89.01 at a local toy store.
Edmond Dantes Posted September 30, 2010 Posted September 30, 2010 Separatist Shuttle and Echo Base, both MISB for $25.00 total at a garage sale this morning. They had Twilight for $40 MISB, but I have no desire to own that.
Condor Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 (edited) I picked up 5 bins full of Lego this morning at a yard sale for $50. I'm guessing it's around 30-40 pounds total. So far, I've found the old Millenium Falcon manual along with some half built parts, Dumbledore, Hagrid, Gamorrean Guard, Boba Fett, Luke Skywalker, and a bunch of Life on Mars minifigs. I'll post some pics once I sort through everything. Edited October 12, 2010 by Condor

I'll post some pics once I sort through everything. I just finished sorting through the ones I got last week, and turned up with almost 200 Minifigs, over 22,000 blocks and parts (had to seperate them from the other toys and Mega Blocks and wash them all, so I figured I might as well count them. My wife helped thank God!). Alot of classic stuff mixed with some newer stuff, but nothing newer than around 2000. I had to buy some new storage bins to hold it all! I actually tossed a few things before realizing they were LEGO, like the big old yellow life vests and the brown parts to make palm trees. :(
TheWarden Posted October 2, 2010 Posted October 2, 2010 This might be too generic, but I've gotten lucky twice. Several years back I got a Star Wars collector that was moving, and for somewhere in the realm of $200-300 (don't remember and have no record of exact amount) for a ton of LEGO Star Wars (complete except as noted): 4504 Mil Falcon - no Leia, the snowtrooper and his large gun, or 3CPO 4483-1 Imperial AT-AT - no instructions, might not be complete, part of interior looks weird 4x Large grey baseplates, 48x48 4476-1 Jabba's Prize 4480-1 Jabba's Palace 2x 4500-1 Rebel Snowspeeder™ 4501-1 Mos Eisley Cantina™ 4502-1 X-wing Fighter™ - no X-wing, but Yoda's hut and minifigs 6207-1 A-Wing Fighter 7140-1 X-wing Fighter™ 7264-1 Imperial Inspection I still want a yellow Leia in bun hair and a 3CPO and that's all the Star Wars I will collect. (OT Star Wars collector) I have one more haul. You know those large rubber bins like 3 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot... I bought a mixed lot that about 3/4 full (something like 50 mini-figs, lots of random Star Wars and Town parts) for something about $150 I think a bit later. I dig around to I got to a half constructed pile that looked familiar, then built the old tiny 7144-1 Slave I™ out of that! So, these two have been kind to me. Found them both on Craigslist. Found nothing reasonably priced since then. Too much competition on CL now for LEGO. Good luck LEGO hunters!
fenris Posted October 4, 2010 Posted October 4, 2010 went to a concert of a band. looked at their "merchandising" stand. saw that they had arranged their CD's on a lego base-plate with figs around them. saw jago fett. asked the guy if he would sell me the fig for $10. he grinned (cause he thought i'm stupid) and gladly sold me the fig... i'm happy!

You should've asked him how much. I bet he would've given you a lower price.

Galaxy Explorer Posted October 9, 2010 Posted October 9, 2010 I've collected LEGO for a long time now, and I've been pretty lucky finding deals. I'd have to say clearances at Target have been my best hauls, especially in the 90's. My first really BIG deal happened in 1986, when I found 6080 King's Castle for $19! I learned quickly to check every Target in my area, and usually was rewarded. In 1994 I was lucky enough to find 6286 Skull's Eye Schooner for $33, over half-off! My Best. Deal. Ever. came to me in 1992, when I stumbled upon a 6399 Airport Shuttle for $40, plus the accessory track for $7. That one still makes me tingle a bit! I've had lots of good luck over the years and even recently, but those few I mentioned really stick out for me.
Tanma Dude Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 My luckiest find was a UCS Yoda FREE! It was at my local dump's swap shed! I thought it was used, because the box was in really rough shape, but when I opened it up, ITS BAGS WERE STILL SEALED! :D I didn't know it's value at the time though, so it was opened...
JCC1004 Posted October 10, 2010 Posted October 10, 2010 I did get a complete Jabba's sail Barge from an EB member recently for 80 USD with shipping included. Considering these go for over 200 complete I consider this a good deal.
earl9371 Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 I thought I'd hit paydirt back in August when I called Lego SAH to ask if there was any plan to re-release the Holiday Toy Shop. They told me they'd just found 10 in their warehouse and would sell it to me at list (this is when they were going for $120 on eBay). Of course this was much cooler before they actually re-released the set!
vexorian Posted October 12, 2010 Posted October 12, 2010 (edited) Not a lucky find per se as every LEGO fan in my city that has self respect would go to that store when looking for LEGO products, but it is lucky because I thought it was going to be impossible for retailers to get them anymore this late. Today I went by that toy store and it turns out they finally received the remaining 2010 products, including: Collectible minifigs series 1 and 2 :) Since I wasn't expecting to have to spend stuff today I didn't brought much money with me so I only bought two, will see bar codes before opening so maybe if it was not the fig I wanted I will keep it MISB for a couple of years and try selling it later... Edit: They were a Forestman and a Mage. Edited October 12, 2010 by vexorian
Drock Posted October 14, 2010 Posted October 14, 2010 Not the best find ever, but at th Lego store they had a Slave I in a smashed up box for 10% off. When I went to the register, the manager said she had an even more smashed up one for 20% off. Not bad when it's also double VIP points month.
