ZCerberus Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 Nice! You probably don't need the ladies to bring attention to this ship though!! Anyhow... These look like the swivels guns from the Sienna/Covenant/Arbiter II!! I like the shape of this ship a lot, great designing!! Now I really want you in the MLCAD Empire!!! j/k! Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 1, 2007 Posted March 1, 2007 I found the bell! X-D It's on the bottom right. :) Tis a nice little bell.:'-) Still haven't found the carronades though :-$ . Nice swivel gun design though. I put those in the Index of MOC cannons *y* P Quote
Eurobricks Emperor Bonaparte Posted March 1, 2007 Author Eurobricks Emperor Posted March 1, 2007 Your ship is Magnificent! :'-) I like your tumblehome effect and castles too. The entire thing looks very proportionate. Excellent work Bonaparte. *sweet* She shall prove to be formidable at sea. Thanks Duke ;-) Wow, your ship is absolutely brilliant! Thats alot of cannons... 20 cannons to be exact (on the gundeck). Some more will be added on the deck. On a final note, mr. bonaparte, have you thought about what color your next ship will be? I'm looking for someone to change it up a bit (not that I don't mind that color scheme). (When I accumulate enough pieces, I'm hoping to go with a tan/brown/white color scheme of some sort.) Well Berry, my next ship will be yellow, black and some white (in the windows). The standard colors of the English ships around the year 1800. But one thing: I think it looks too red... Although I do think, changing the hatch to black, would get some more contrast. And that I think would be looking better. Are there any chasers on the ship? You're right that it still looks a bit too red, but once I add a small boat to the deck, some cannons/chasers, other stuff, then it is supposed to solved itself. Oh, and those girls in your signature are very effective! :-P Yep, on a forum with 95% male population this should draw some attention :-D These look like the swivels guns from the Sienna/Covenant/Arbiter II!!I like the shape of this ship a lot, great designing!! Now I really want you in the MLCAD Empire!!! j/k! Indeed, I got the idea for the swivels from you Mr. Z. This ship is a bit the result of all the stuff I have seen on the pirate forum. I have already joined the MLCAD empire! I'm designing my next ship with MLCad. I found the bell! X-D It's on the bottom right. :) Tis a nice little bell.:'-) Still haven't found the carronades though :-$ . Nice swivel gun design though. Put those in the Index of MOC cannons *y* When I wrote carronades, I actually meant the swivel guns... But I will also add real carronades and I will select a design from your index :) Quote

Norrington Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Actully, while you are wasting your time looking for me on the waves, I'll be under your ships... in a U-boat! Quote
ZCerberus Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 Hope your ships are fast or powerful commodore. If the Empire was me and boney you would have this ship from boney, his army of Napoleonic destruction, The Arbiter II (which is now updated and completed), the Sienna and the Covenant and Fort Brighton at the least... I think we could do some damage... but that isn't really the topic here, we are talking about boney's ship... Any how, Do you have any sort of sail plan in mind? How many sails? How will you be making them? I think we may have touched on this topic earlier, but I was curious to know what the current plans on since you are fast approaching completion on this bad boy! Quote

I think we may have touched on this topic earlier, but I was curious to know what the current plans on since you are fast approaching completion on this bad boy! Good to mention the sails Mr. Z because I'm facing a problem here. I would like to use this sail-plain: The arrows in the picture below indicate the points where I could attach a sail-beam (don't know the correct term) to the main-mast . If I add 4 sails to the main mast, then 1 of them would be rather big... I don't think this will look very good. In this picture it is the second sail (starting from the deck). If I add 5 sails, then it would be solved, but this is not very accurate. Does anyone have a solution? Quote
Capn Frank Posted March 3, 2007 Posted March 3, 2007 ...Does anyone have a solution? Would 3 sails look alright? granted it's not 4 like you'd like, but it looks like it'd work. P Quote
ZCerberus Posted March 4, 2007 Posted March 4, 2007 Does anyone have a solution? two ideas... 1) you could not use the very top peg on the sails like it is done on the SES and then use every peg with a yardarm after that or 2) I would leave it as is, except I would make the lowest sail one yardarm higher, so the second to bottom sail would be smaller. that would be similar to the Arbiter II, but not quite the same since you are using a tall mast in the center above the platform. Looking at the arbiter, I discovered you attached one of the sails to the platform. So I tried that by using this piece: I guess that's also how you did it Mr. Z? Hard to see on the picture. This seems like a good solution to make the lowest sail a bit bigger and the second sail a bit smaller. Quote

Hard to see on the picture. Not quite! I used the samller mast base ontop of the platform. When you do that there is a connector for the sails right above the platform. As you will notice, I have the smaller ratlines in that photo, which means I have the smaller mast base. You are using the taller mast bases, so the next connector on your ship is higher up than the one on mine. So yours will be different with an even bigger sail on the bottom. However, using a connector right at the platform in some way might also work, that is just not what I did. Quote

Using the connector at the platform solves my problem. Now I just need to make some sails. The "first version" will be in paper to get the right form. When I find something better, I'll replace them again. Quote

When I find something better, I'll replace them again. If you like the sails on the Arbiter II, I can offer some advice. 1) On the two masts I have with four sails, the upper most sail and the lower most sails (royals and main sail) are customs. 2) The two sails in the middle (top sail and topgallant sail) are the same size as the standard LEGO ® sails. 3) For the custom sails, try making them fit fairly snuggly horizontally across the top yardarm the sail is connected to, but a little wide on each side at the bottom yard arm, and a little longer vertically, this will give them the look of "puffing out". If you look at the Arbiter II sails you will also notice that they are convex on both the bottom and sides, the are not straight. Straight sails will look rather funky. I think you have to figure out how to do that on your own as the shape will vary depending on mast sizes. Quote

Paladin Posted March 5, 2007 Posted March 5, 2007 Napoleon, I had viewed the WIP pictures before but now as the model nears completion...I must say... That is definately one of the most magnificent Napoleonic era naval ships I've seen built on standard boat hulls. I cannot wait to see the completed model. :) P.S. Yes the girls worked...I could not but help click your signature from another thread :-P Quote

El Bucanero Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Mr Bonaparte, I think I'm gonna rebuild the current Acheron instead of making new brick built hull version. And it would be very helpful if you gave some details about how the cabin is constructed... Mr Tiber Quote
