Lazarus Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Tryed a few diffrent ideas brick making them and other windows but none of them looked as good as what was there already. It will still look ok in black it would look worse with any other type to big compared to the real loco. Good idea about the window pains but dont like the look but smart idea Quote
Lazarus Posted May 15, 2013 Author Posted May 15, 2013 Ok so i have the loco made bar missing one lot of bits that are about a week out. I managed to get Pov ray working so here is a render on the loco Quote
escortmad79 Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 Any chance of posting the LXF files for this? Quote
kieran Posted May 16, 2013 Posted May 16, 2013 Ok so i have the loco made bar missing one lot of bits that are about a week out. I managed to get Pov ray working so here is a render on the loco Now that is a thing of beauty, really like the look of that, very nice work Quote
Lazarus Posted May 16, 2013 Author Posted May 16, 2013 (edited) Sorry dint give out my plans but i do put them on my bricklink for a small fee once i have ironed out any issues. This will also be at a local lego show 1/2/3 June in Henderson auckland Nz Edited May 16, 2013 by Lazarus Quote
Lazarus Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) Loco is all made and made its first test run. Have come across derailing issues on tight bends am working on fixing this. Until i get the kinks worked out i wont have a complete plan to sell. Edited June 4, 2013 by Lazarus Quote
ScotNick Posted June 4, 2013 Posted June 4, 2013 Looks really great! Only the coaches are missing. Will the engine be powered? Quote
Lazarus Posted June 4, 2013 Author Posted June 4, 2013 (edited) trying to avoid powering the loco and have the coaches push the train. If i fail at it this way i will need to switch to PF what i really want to avoid. I have been unable to make the tender 4 wheel with a 9v motor so that option out. So only way to power the loco is with a motor in the cab to keep the look how i want and i dont think one motor could pull four of my coaches due to brick count and size. zephyr1934 Posted June 5, 2013 Posted June 5, 2013 The loco looks great and the layout has some nice details (I like the sweeping curve up the viaduct, spotted a low rise turntable, and other bits too) Quote
Lazarus Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 (edited) Sorry for bring up one of my old topics but the tenders on my FS have been nagging me for a while. Ok so issue is powering this loco, I can push from the coaches behind the loco but it tends to have some issue with the dual tender. Yes i wanted to get it dual but have now dropped the 2nd tender and made it single tender but powered. Now the hard bit the EN tender is two short to put in a motor and 2 wheel so there is 4 wheels in the tend the FS needs to have. So this needed to be extended to 20 studs long, what i find over all it looks better with the longer tender with the loco being 8 wide. SO this is what i came up with powered rear tender so now the loco can move on its own. If i need more power to pull coaches they can be added into them. Edited December 21, 2013 by Lazarus Quote
Paperballpark Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 It looks good, but surely the tender won't go around corners now, with having 4 axles on the same 'bogie', as it were? Quote
Lazarus Posted December 21, 2013 Author Posted December 21, 2013 Yes it will :-) the wheels at ether end can move. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted December 24, 2013 Posted December 24, 2013 Looks good, though my only suggestion is that if you do find that you need more power (second motor) perhaps add the second tender back in for it instead of stashing the motor under a coach. You might even be able to power it off of the same battery and IR receiver... though at that point you could probably stash both motors under a single tender. Quote
Lazarus Posted December 24, 2013 Author Posted December 24, 2013 I run 9V so dont need to worry about battery. The main issue was the coaches pushing the loco and to tenders it did not work right. This should fix it, not sure about two tenders now with the extra lenth on the tender. I will find this out soon just waiting on a few parts to finish up then i will have a look. Will look at two motors but i dont think they will fit. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 Ah, if you are doing 9v, I'm pretty sure you should be able to fit two motors under a 24 long baseplate (I think I did so here, with the train baseplate, which is more limiting than simply plates), maybe even a 22 long base. But as you said, you might only need one motor. Quote
