posades Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 "We should divide the batteries into groups of three. Our first measurement should be two of those groups; if they are equal in voltage, we know that the last group must contain the fully charged battery, in which case our second measurement would be one battery on each side of the scale from the remaining group. If they are once again equal, that means the battery not on the scale is the charged one. Otherwise the fully charged one will tip the scale. A similar process is done if we find that one of the first two groups has the charged battery in it."
Chromeknight Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 (edited) Nerwen puts three batteries on each side of the scale, leaving three off. Whichever side the scale indicates, she takes those three, putting the others aside. If the sides are shown as equal, she takes the three that weren't measured. With those three, she puts one on each side, leaving one off. The full battery is either indicated by the scale or it is the one left out. The full battery is identified. She realized she was moving as Xander spoke and laughed gently. Looks like we both figured it out. Edited June 8, 2013 by Chromeknight
The Legonater Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Dyric cocks an eyebrow at the pair. You two seem to know what's going on. Go ahead.
CorneliusMurdock Posted June 8, 2013 Posted June 8, 2013 Cronk will stand back and let friends work magic of logic as well.
Waterbrick Down Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 Under Xander's direction, Nerwen arranges the batteries and eventually settles upon one before plugging it into the dumbwaiter's power socket. With a slight hum the machine powers on successfully. Xander smiles at his resourcefulness and gains 1/3 a level of experience! The Legonater Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Well, let's head back up to Room 302 then, shall we?
Waterbrick Down Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 (edited) The party heads to 302 and are greeted by a friendly lucustoid. "Yes. Can I. Be of. Service. To. You?" Edited June 9, 2013 by Waterbrick Down
CorneliusMurdock Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Greetings. Party was sent to collect rent for new owner. Cronk knows 302 was not behind on rent, but party happened across a being in distress while collecting rent and is in need of shiny objects to turn other tenant back from being stone. Does friendly Lucastoid have any shiny objects capable of redirecting light that party might borrow?
Waterbrick Down Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 "Ah. You must. Be. The. Handy man. Yes. The. Broken mirror. Is. In. Here. Would you. Like me. To. Fetch. It for.
Chromeknight Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Yes thank you. Nerwen also takes the shield off the wall in the hallway, examining it to see if it would work as a reflective surface if polished.
Waterbrick Down Posted June 9, 2013 Author Posted June 9, 2013 The lucustoid soon returns with the broken mirror pieces and hands them over to Cronk. Nerwen notices that the shield does indeed have a reflective surface and removes it from the wall.
CorneliusMurdock Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 Does Nerwen think these are enough shiny things to solve puzzle?
Chromeknight Posted June 9, 2013 Posted June 9, 2013 I do not know friend Cronk, but we can try. Nerwen leads the party to the petrified faun's room. I'm away on a work conference for the next five days. I expect to have internet access, but if I don't and disappear, CM has Nerwen. (normally would have said Legonater, but he's QMing also).
Waterbrick Down Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 (edited) The Party heads back to the faun's room. Laying all of their items on the floor they note that they have 11 reflective pieces to arrange. An inspection of the gems reveals that they redirect light of the gems color perpendicular to the incident beam. Sunlight continues to stream through the window, the diamond giving off a stream of color directly perpendicular to the window. There seem to be enough pieces, how will the party arrange them? QM Note: Feel free to try representing the solution in any way you wish however this format might be the simplest. A / C D / \ \ H I etc... Edited June 10, 2013 by Waterbrick Down
posades Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 OoC: Is the sunlight coming from the left hand side of the picture? And are beams of light free to cross each other?
Chromeknight Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Nerwen looks at the pieces, trying to determine if there is a piece which splits the beam or if they needed to reflect the one beam through multiple gems to one of those mounted on the wall. She also tries the surfaces of the armour, to see what it does to the beam.
Waterbrick Down Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 Xander notes that the light is coming in from the window on the right and that the light beams cross over each other with no effect. Nerwen does not find anything that can split the beam and determines that the solution to the puzzle must involve the gem stones.
CorneliusMurdock Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Cronk is still a bit confused. Light is already coming through green and blue gems, correct? Do friends just need to get light from diamond to red circle on wall as well?
The Legonater Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 It would seem we need to reflect the light of the separate gems into the button(?) of their respective colour. However, we do not seem to have a red gem...
Waterbrick Down Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 Cronk notices that the light from the window on the right only goes through the diamond, scattering into 3 colors: green, red, and blue.
CorneliusMurdock Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Hmm... Cronk will look to see which direction red emanates from diamond so that friends know where to set reflectors.
Waterbrick Down Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 Cronk observes all three colors, red, green, and blue, scattering directly out of the diamond in the same direction, left.
Chromeknight Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Nerwen takes a fragment, placing it at point H, trying to reflect only the red light into the Ruby on the wall. She also looks at the pieces to see if any reflect on both sides, or whether the reflect from one direction only.
The Legonater Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I look for any piece that would split the group of three into individual groups.
Waterbrick Down Posted June 10, 2013 Author Posted June 10, 2013 OoC: I'm assuming you are holding the piece at a 45 degree angle such that it reflects into the Ruby. The Ruby lights up, but only dimly as if inhibited by the other colors. Nerwen looks at her reflective pieces and notices that they have a mirrored surface on both sides. Dyric fails to notice that the diamond is currently acting like a prism splitting the colors up.
