Waterbrick Down Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 (edited) The party knocks upon the door and are greeted cheerfully by an elven lady. "Why hello there, aren't you such a nice bunch knocking and all that, seems like all people do these days is just barge through peoples' doors without a bit of common courtesy." Edited April 30, 2013 by Waterbrick Down
The Legonater Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Tell me about it. Back in my homeland, we didn't go around kicking doors, but it seems to be in abundance here. Speaking of which, we were hired by Mr. Hinckwell. Is it true you have not payed your rent?
Waterbrick Down Posted April 30, 2013 Author Posted April 30, 2013 "I happen to pay my rent on the dime my good sir, however as I am not a tenant of this inn I doubt you would be interested in that. I'm sure Cynthia would be willing to take that question up with you though. Please come in." The Elf leads the party inside as an aged werelizard slowly rises from her armchair by the fireplace. "Well I declare! I ain't had such a gaggle of handsome looking boys in my living room in nearly a decade. Sit down, sit down, and let me get you some tea." The heroes find themselves quickly seated in armchairs, assorted stools, and a random piano bench, warm tea being poured into cups for them by the smiling scaly woman. "It's been an age since I had a proper social call, what can I do for you? "Cynthia, they're here to ask about the..." "Hush good Teresa, I'm sure the gentlemen can speak for themselves."
The Legonater Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 Well, ma'am, we've been hired by Mr. Hinckwell to catch up on your fees. He is very disturbed that you have not payed your rent.
Waterbrick Down Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 "Mr. Hinckwell?... Oh yes, he's the dapper gentleman that took over the Waltzing Dragon when my dear Xavior passed on. 'Twas a depressing affair that was, nearly broke my heart with grief it did. Of course, I'm sure dear Xander left a letter or sorts concerning our mutual 'understanding' though, didn't he?"
The Legonater Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Mr. Hinckwell did not speak of anything to this regard. It would seem that the letter did not go through.
CorneliusMurdock Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 This very good tea. Cronk thanks Miss Cynthia. It is nice to sit and chat. Does Cynthia know where Xander would leave such a letter? Perhaps friends could help clear up misunderstanding. Oh, has Miss Cynthia heard of little creature called a wolpertinger? Cronk was told one wondered into inn and Cronk would like to return creature to owner. Has Miss Cynthia seen one?
Waterbrick Down Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) The werelizard gave a toothy smile to Cronk. "You are quite welcome young man, that brewing technique has been in my family for generations. Crushed Bittle-bog nettles are the secret, I can give you a tin if you're interested." Miss Cynthia took a sip of her tea, before continuing on. "You know I used to have a wolpertinger for a pet as a little girl, we called him Louis V because he looked like a Louis. I haven't seen one wandering around the inn though, but then again I don't make it out much anymore. Darling Teresa is the only real company I get anymore since Xavior died." Cynthia turned to Dyric, "I just can't imagine he kind old Xavior didn't leave something. I think I still have a copy of the contract somewhere, but I haven't looked at it for nearly 30 years. I don't even know if I could remember where I placed it." Edited May 1, 2013 by Waterbrick Down
The Legonater Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Would it be possible for you to tell us what the contract contained? Perhaps we could speak to Mr. Hinkwell about the situation.
Waterbrick Down Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 The werelizard smiles coyly. "Let's just say Xavior and I had an agreement of an intimate nature. I'm sure if we could find the contract it would straighten the whole matter out though."
The Legonater Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 ...I see. Have you any idea where we might find this contract?
Chromeknight Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Nerwen spoke quietly to the widow's Elven companion. Teresa is it? Stars shine on our meeting. My name is Nerwen. Have you visited here often? Is there perhaps something you recall seeing that will help substantiate her claim? Speaking to Cynthia, she asked, Is that a djinn's lamp on your mantle? Perhaps the one within could assist?
posades Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Xander stood by quietly, thinking to himself that maybe his name wasn't as unique as his mother had told him. He waited for the scaly woman to respond to the questions at hand, gazing at the bookcase to see if any titles caught his eye.
Waterbrick Down Posted May 1, 2013 Author Posted May 1, 2013 Teresa responded in kind to Nerwen. "Mae l'ovannen! Indeed it is. I have been a friend of Cynthia's for nearly 2 years. As a representative from the Eubric Embassy, I try to make it my duty to know as many of the members of this great city as possible. Cynthia and I met during the open house jubilee 2 years ago. I know that Cynthia and Xavior were on the best of turns and that they kept each other company many an evening. Aside from that I was never aware of such a document." Cynthia turned to the lamp. "Perhaps, it was a gift from a friend. But as you must know Jinns once summoned may only be used for service once and then they must be set free. If we can't locate it, I may have to use it after all." Xander wanders over to the bookcase where he sees many titles. Top Shelf: MEAD BEACH, by Roba Norerts. DADDY'S GONE A SLAYING, by Harry Miggins ETHER AFTER ETHER, by Atkate Kinson GONE ORC, by Fillian Glynn TAKING AMADEA, by Joris Ihansen THE BALTAROK BOYS, by Lizzie Trouts DON'T SAIL, by Scott Lisline INTENDED REWARDS, by Wort Stuads MY BELOVED OLEGAIA, by Sotia Sonomayor Middle Shelf: FIFTY SHADES OF BLEY, by J. Dackman YOUR WAY, by Aul Panka ELIMINATING ENNOC, by Orill Beilly "Well I'll be, I seem to remember using the contract for a bookmark several years back... Let me see, well I remember that the book was either directly above, below, or next to either one of the black, orange, or dark gray bound tombs. And there was definitely more than one book of the same color, but there weren't any other books with the same color on it's shelf. Oh I remember that it definitely wasn't a heavy book. Does that help you get anywhere?"
Chromeknight Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 (edited) Knowing that it was rude to pick up books without asking, Nerwen points to THE GREAT EVOKATION by Stovid A. Dackman and asked Is it this one maybe? There is another brown bound book, but not on the same shelf, it's not a thick book and its the only one proximate to large books coloured orange, black and dark grey. Edited May 1, 2013 by Chromeknight
CorneliusMurdock Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 That is quite diverse collection Miss Cynthia has. Some very interesting titles. What is "The Minstrel" about? Cronk will wait and see if friend Nerwen is correct before guessing.
The Legonater Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 I observe, apparently not as fast as this as Nerwen. Like I said in Quest 64, I'm gone Thursday-Sunday. I'll try to post as often as possible, but if I can't control of Dyric is left to CM.

Dackman and asked Is it this one maybe? There is another brown bound book, but not on the same shelf, it's not a thick book and its the only one proximate to large books coloured orange, black and dark grey. Cynthia thumbed through the pages of the book. "I'm afraid not and by tome I just mean any ol' book dearie, nothing special. Let me see, if I recall correctly the title of the book definitely had the letter 'a' in it and it had to be longer than two words. I'm sure the author's last, middle, or first name started with a vowel, and I'll be befuddled if the author wasn't a woman." That is quite diverse collection Miss Cynthia has. It is a intriguing tale about a young boy and an old orc, who has been adopted by the local community. The orc eventually shares one of his deepest darkest secrets with the boy and asks him for an unexpected favor. The boy isn't sure whether it is right or wrong to fulfill his friend's request and is faced with discerning the morality of the entire situation. I observe, apparently not as fast as this as Nerwen. Waterbrick Down Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 Cynthia took the book from the shelf and scanned through the pages, finally pulling a small manuscript from the book. "Ah here it is." The heroes inspect the document, and after a few blushes determine its contents seem to be legally binding.
Chromeknight Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Very good. We can deliver this to Master Hinkwell and Mister Greely for you. Tell me, did you enjoy this book? Nerwen asks, lightly touching the spine of the dark green bound book, by J.E.Smeal
Waterbrick Down Posted May 2, 2013 Author Posted May 2, 2013 (edited) "It was quite the interesting read mind you Ms. Nerwen, however my affinities lie more with lighter pieces of literature. Though it can't be denied that Smeal's work is highly rated amongst certain segments of the public, it is one of my lesser favorites in my collection." The werelizard handed the contract to Dyric. "I'd be most grateful if you'd see to it that Mr. Greely received this. Also, seein' as how I owe you such gratitude for saving me from the peril of bankruptcy, please go ahead and take that Diamond Jinn up on the mantel as a token of my thanks." The Legonater Posted May 2, 2013 Posted May 2, 2013 Thank you, ma'am. I hope this clears up this mess. I nod politely to Cynthia, and nod with a smile towards Teresa.

Cronk will have to look for that one next time Cronk finds self in library. After saying the word "library", Cronk frowns slightly then heaves a deep sigh. Cronk is glad friends could help. It was a true pleasure meeting Miss Cynthia. Cronk thanks Miss Cynthia again for the tea.
