Posted April 21, 201311 yr DRILLFIST. So yeah, I just came up with a goofy head and I wanted to put it on an intimidating body, so this is what came out. C&C appreciated. Edited April 21, 201311 yr by WARHEAD
April 21, 201311 yr Oh my that head is just so awesome! Otherwise it's well-armored with creative weapons. Good job!
April 21, 201311 yr This guy is beefy, well-armed, and well-armored, but even going beyond that, I love his skeleton. Very unique, particularly in the torso build, but the end result looks nice and solid. I'm always interested in creative skeleton designs like this one. The only part I'm a little uneasy about is the leg design. The way the front and back of the legs operate independently reminds me not too fondly of the Toa Nuva Kaita and other BIONICLE combi models that used a similar leg design. While this design often looks good in a few poses, oftentimes it is hard to pose with the legs bent without them looking out-of-place. Of course, in this case, the figure's stylized, cartoony look works to his advantage, giving a bit more freedom than a figure with more naturalistic proportions and shaping might have been afforded. Overall, this guy is a very fun design, who would make a great boss in a video game. Great weapons, intimidating physique, and lots of personality.
April 21, 201311 yr Author Thanks for the compliments, guys. @Aanchir the legs work surprisingly well actually, as long as you try to corrdinate both of the sides which can get a bit difficult in some poses, I admit. :v And yeah, I enjoy making robits with chunky proportions, they're loads of fun.
April 21, 201311 yr Very nice ! I love the legs armors, it's an interesting idea. The head is really good too, and the body is very well done. I just don't like the feet, they seem unfinished. But beside that, the MOC is clean, creative, impressive. I love it. Congratulations. You should use a white background to take your pictures, it would add a lot to your MOCs' presentations. :)
April 22, 201311 yr Is it just me, or is the inside of that tube dark green instead of lime? Anyway, I've got to say that while the head doesn't really work well, the body and limbs are just perfect. Bulky, intimidating and with some cool part combos.
April 22, 201311 yr Author It is indeed, dark green. That variant came with the Glatorian Vastus set, if I'm not mistaken.
April 25, 201311 yr Very cool MOC, and bonus points for the German name. You know, since I'm German, I'm used that characters like robots have English names, so German names like "Bohrerfaust" sound a bit goofy to me. But it fits this guy very well.
April 26, 201311 yr Author The actual meaning of the name is goofy in any language, yeah, but I thought it sounds kinda menacing in German, to non-native speakers at least. I mean no offence of course :v

I mean no offence of course :v Oh no, don't worry, I didn't took any offense. The thing is, for me as German, it's the other way around. "Drillfist" sounds kinda badass as long as you don't try to translate it. That applies to many other character names as well. For example, Zero from the Mega Man franchise could be easily translated to "Null", but that sounds incredibly dumb (especially since calling someone a "Null" is actually an insult in German, it's like calling someone a loser). The same goes for Transformers. Many character names can be actually translated into German, but luckily most of the time they are not. Beast Wars was an odd example though, since Terrorsaur and Blackarachnia were translated ("Terrorsaurus" and "Schwarze Arachnie" respectively), while some other names (like Dinobot) are pronounced in German letters instead of English (I hope it's understandable what I mean with that). When English isn't your native language, English names can sound very cool. And translated names often suck. For example Jawblade is called Maxi Lame in French (Lame means blade), which is fun, because the set is indeed, IMO, Maxi Lame (in the English way). Names should never be translated. Unless they are already in your native language. (I hope I'm not too much OT )
April 27, 201311 yr Names should never be translated. Unless they are already in your native language. (I hope I'm not too much OT ) Translating names is an interesting topic, especially there are also many examples were its actually totally fine to translate names... as long as it is done right. For example, many names in The Lord of the Rings were either translated, changed or altered in the German translation. Samwise Gamgee for example became Samweis Gamdschie (it's basically the same, but it was altered to transport the English pronunciation of the name into German), and the "Shire" is known as the "Auenland" (which could be translated as "Meadow Land") in German. Many names in Asterix comics get also translated (which is understandable, since most of them are puns), and Nintendo is also known for translating their games into the respective language (though the degree of translation depends on the game - in the sci-fi setting of Metroid are English terms more common than in the Zelda games, which are translated in a way similiar to Lord of the Rings).
