Love your layout!

I have a question though about the tables you are using - home made? 12mm plywood on the top?

If you have any pics of the tables before you built on top I would be interested to see.

I'm looking at doing something similar but creating a large hollowed out square / rectangle with tables. This would then be something I could take to shows etc so I can stand in the middle and get an overview of everything going on.

Hi lostdriveaway, yes it is 8mm plywood on the top, when I get the next one I'll take pictures. But you may go for 12mm, especially if you take them to shows! Would love to see your city!

Hello!

Nice updates.

What I should do, is incorporating a tramway instead of a train, for a more "urban feel". Or combine them?

And adding a bycycle path...

What have you done with the Tower Bridge? Can we have a closer look? Looks interesting, maybe I'll do the same in my little city.

Keep on building!

Hi BrickyBoy, a tramway would definitely do it...but it means I'd have to tile all the streets and maybe also raise the green stuff by a third of a brick...it gives perspective on the long term and would allow to integrate a bike track!

Thanks!

Beautiful layout ! I like the trees and the big tower.

You could add some flowers, and plants all over the green part.

Bravo !

Merci castor-troy, done!

... not with flowers but trees... will be continued!

Anyhow, I am very grateful for all the advises and inspiration from all of your creations, I have a lot of room for improvement with my layout and yet this is excellent news as I have years of building ahead...

I guess I'll wait a while for updates now, don't want to spam...

Thanks for all the feedbacks!

Been watching this for a bit but haven't commented yet. You're layout looks wonderful, so nice seeing it come from pretty much nothing to a nice cohesive town. I love the trees, as I've said before I'm such a sucker for brick built trees and landscaping. The trees are really well done.

Hola!

Given the significant changes between iterations, I think you're a long way from spamming. Self-serving statement because I don't want to miss any updates of this ace layout? Umm, yes.

I think I would look at expanding the train station - the HE looks a bit silly stopping at a station with the tiny platform lengths that Lego provide. As such, you could extend the platforms at station in to something more substantial, and provide a bit more of a focus on the opposite side of the street to the modulars. Even if it is simply platforms with fencing to divide them from the street, it is better than green nothing.

I've loved this layout since the first post and it keeps getting better and better :classic: and i don't mind the 'blank' bits of green, its like it's a public park... although i would be worried about kids or dogs wandering on to the train tracks  but overall i love it more with every update!!

Keep up the good work and happy building

I'm also interested in the tables as I'll be building something similar myself soon. Do you join the 12mm plywood sheets together at all or just put them next to each other?

My suggestions; I like the backdrop suggestion, just a simple one painted light blue would work wonders. Of course if you want to go all out and paint a CITY box-style diaorama that would be better!

The tunnel around the back is a great suggestion as well. Would it be kosher to make a paper-mache one (like on an HO layout) or does it have to be Lego?

The trees are really bringing this to life. It looks fantastic!

I have a couple more suggestions. Maybe some sort of fence running beside the train track? Plus flower beds and a few more park benches on the green space between the track and the road?

The trees give indeed a good look to it. Perhaps adding a trackbed or ballast to the rails, It is often forgotten but it ads a lot of realism. Can't wait for the next update.

Love the trees! Those fall ones are just beautiful! More close up pics on some of your trees would be super!

Hi lostdriveway,

here is a pic of my favourite, yet one of the smallest one.. Thanks for the comment!

Nice trees, though is it spring or fall in your town at the moment ?

As always, Lightningtiger, spot on... Here is a little more to add to the confusion, with a Japanese flowering cherry...

These fall-coloured trees are amazing. I definately want that, too. Now, you just have to decide which season, you want in your layout

Again, even harder to choose now, I'd tend to go for fall, and remove the other ones, what do you think?

Thanks for all the nice comments, much appreciated.

I also like the fence idea, noway I'd allow my kids to play next to a train track... and why not track ballast, any nice examples?

For those interested by the big tree in front of the town hall, here is the source:

Keep you posted,

thanks again for your valuable feedbacks!

Maybe you could simply follow the seasons and go for late spring/summer now - and save those beautiful colours for later. Unfortunately it will also leave the Japanese cherry hidden away from us

The trees make a huge difference! Add so much more depth especially along the rail line at the front.

From a quick observation your tables are 4 baseplates wide?

I'd prefer spring time trees. It's a nice town layout and the spring time trees make it a little bit more sunny, if you know what I mean. The little dark red tree looks fine, it looks as some type of Japanes maple tree. So, I'd only remove the yellow/orange ones, as they looks too much like autumn (not that they're not nice, but, man, we're still hoping for some summer time before that). :classic:

Hola!

Your town is looking great. Love the trees. I don't know how trees roll, but I'm assuming they don't all go "Dude, I've just checked the calendar, and it's totally autumn/fall, so we should all change the colours of our leaves right now, together", so different colour trees can mean your town is between summer and autumn/fall. Viva betwixt seasons!

Hi cei, thanks for the suggestion, added a second one but not the fence yet, will extend when I have more room...

You have a great foundation here for an amazing layout, but its just a little spread out. I think it needs some finishing touches to tie it all together, such as the landscaping in front of the town hall and something to fill the space between the road and train tracks.

I'm curious though. What happened to the other layout you had planned? The one that had a couple of city blocks closer together, with the town hall at one end?

Thanks kristel, here is an update, looking closer to original plans but still under construction :classic:

Any other suggestions before going ahead?

Thanks a lot in advance!

I like watching this town layout change and expand each time 'SwissBrick'......though I hope you will change some of those base plates to one colour. (i.e. around the town hall)

Keep going and Brick On 'SwissBrick' !
