I like how you have added more depth by placing the buildings all over the place. It makes the city seem much larger, and also allows for more cars on the road this way!

Question though, why don't you have the sidewalks going to the road plates? Now to me, and this is just my humble opinion, it looks a bit off that the sidewalks are so far removed from the sides of the streets. Do you have plans for these areas?

Love the city!

I like watching this town layout change and expand each time 'SwissBrick'......though I hope you will change some of those base plates to one colour. (i.e. around the town hall)

Keep going and Brick On 'SwissBrick' !

Hi LT & The Jersey Brick Guy,

again, spot on... I was just looking at bricklink to see if I could get a large amount of grey tiles to cover the sidewalks and comparing the price with Pick a brick... So yes I will try to have a lot of tiles and have the front of the Town Hall + sidewalks tiled

And yes, i also have the feeling that the city looks much bigger even if I had to remove some smaller buildings...

Here is also the 2nd train station that cei had suggested. The train station office reminds me of the buildings you make LT, much less detailed but the scale is comparable (pictures from before latest update)

The town hall looks great at the top of the layout surrounded by the park. Love all those trees!

The shot below is just perfect, it makes the city look very vibrant and busy!

Just one suggestion. The residential building are interspersed with the commercial buildings. I think it would make more sense to have distinct residential and commercial precincts.

Very nice. I think you jhave a great sence for layout-design and photography. You should try to use a backdrop (background) to shield out any non-layout parts in the photos. -Like the "blue sky" I have used on my own layouts. You´ll be surprised how much the scenes imporve...

Finally an update

I think, it really gives an impression of a dense city. My only comment would be that you should use the railroad crossing to make a road from the city into the countryside and seaside, instead of letting it go to the end of world

I really like this arrangement. I did prefer the Town Hall by itself, but overall this current layout gives the sense of a bustling city!

One suggestion from me - move one of the log cabins further back and to the left of the Haunted House, amongst the trees. This would give the impression of a log cabin in the woods and add another focal point for the layout.

I agree, I really like the second layout much better than the first. It is a much stronger layout as now you have your citizens hustle and bustle around town. I'm really envious that you have doubled up on some modulars and the train station. Hehe :) If I had the budget I would go buy another one. My idea for the the town hall is to have the road lead directly to it with the modular buildings on either side of the street. I had thought that perhaps that was what you wanted initially with the Town hall. Then of course you can add a fountain/park out front and any other business buildings around the centre point.

I compliment you on your train station. Guess I will have to 'borrow' your idea for the combined train station ticket booth or come up with a separate train station... I just have same set and the open back though great for play won't do since we are obsessed with mods. So far so good! Question are those coloured trees painted?

Looking even better 'SwissBrick', though the very top section of the cinema is open unlike cafe corner....perhaps some filling to make it look similar.

I was about to say where the gas station is......then I saw the tankstation to one side.....though only accessible from one side ? :look:

Anyway, I really like the layout.......Brick On 'SwissBrick' !

Looking fantastic as usual, I love what you've done with the train station, I keep looking at mine no back and thinking how cold everyone must be in there!

Fantastic layout and I look forward to the next update, happy building

Hi Hoexbroe, thanks for the comment, yes I will try the backdrop, do you think that blue clothe/tissue would do it or should I go for painted wood? And does it have to be really close to the tables or can I leave room between tables and backdrop, allowing to move around the table?

Thanks again and kind regards

Hi, thanks laka!

As I have a second railroad crossing, I will just need to wait for payday to get some straight roadplates to go through the countryside..

Kind regards!

Hi Kristel, thanks for the comment! I aslo do prefer the townhall by itself but needed a 32 wide building to make the city block and really wanted to try it as block.

You're right about the log cabin, will move it!

Thanks again and kind regards

Hi Wodanis, thanks for the comments! Yes you're right, initial plan was to have the town hall down the road and the other modulars on each side of the street. But the thig is that I wanted to try the block layout and also as Kristel was mentionning to have the sense of a bustling city, which I think is reached.

I think I will not add a 3rd station until my tables grow bigger ...

as for the trees, the leave color is neither painted nor an original lego product, the leaves come from: http://www.altbricks.com/cart/index.php?main_page=products_all

Thanks again and kind regards!

Hi lightningtiger, you definitely have an eagle eye :classic: I didn't even notice that it looked weird with the cinema's top section compared to the Café corner... Will see if I can fix that

For the gas station, I really think I should try to build one like I saw in this forum that you guys master so well... but I think it'll wait until I get one more table...since as you say, it should be accessible from each side and I think 32 X 32 baseblate on a side of the street would really add something to the city!

Thanks again and kind regards!

Hi timmyc1983, thanks for the comments :classic:

As I live in switzerland we are used to cold, therefore no open back building here... maybe I should add mountains on the backdrop that hoexbroe suggested

thanks again and kind regards!

All those options will do!

Basically it is about blocking out any non-diorama elements form the view. -And especially photo-shoots.

For travelling to expos, the wooden panels are an advantage, as it can be dificult to maintain an orderly appearance with a hanging cloth, when hundreds (or even thousands) of people pass by...

I love this new design. It's my new favorite!

Whats down the street to the right of the town hall? I have been thinking of making blocks like what you have, but I was going to use 4x4 baseplates roads per block. I am not sure if that will come off to big or not.

Keep posting the pictures!

it's not cramped enough. Cities are full and dirty, buildings packed like sardines and overfilling bins, broken benches and people, lots and lots of people. And dogs.

edit. just looked properly at the whole topic and saw the latest pictures, it is soooo much better, although a little texture on the land would be great.

Any more photography / info on your tables?

Did you build them or are they store bought? Dimensions?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Lostdriveway,

sorry, it's probably about the third time you have to ask...

The tables are 8mm plywood and the dimensions are 180 cm X 100 cm. They stand on 3 sawhorses each and are not tied one to another. I bought the sawhorses and the plywood separately, I just gave the dimensions.

If I had to redo it, I'd go for 10mm thick wood. Plywood is not expansive.

Here is a picture:

Hey thanks a million!

Exactly what I was after! I like your design and I'm about to move houses so once I do I'll be hoping to set something up like yours - although I hope to use 6 - 8 tables to create a hollow rectangle so I can operate from standing in the middle.

Hi The jersey Brick Guy, the "thing" is 7997 Train Station:

http://www.brickset....ail/?set=7997-1

Good idea with the 4X4 baseplate blocks, how would you manage it, it is easy with 4 corner buildings, what's your idea?

Thanks

I believe this is the most "packed" city I've seen

Hi lostrdriveway, yeah a big basement was important to choose the new house... I only have 3 proper tables yet but the plan is also to grow and being able to stand in the middle to reach every part of the layout

Post some pics when you move, or if you already have some, I'd be curious to see a layout that fits on 6 to 8 tables..!!!
