Posted April 23, 201311 yr Hope this is ok to ask here! If not, mods, just let me know and I can change it! Long story, short, I was thinking of selling my "Bricklinked" 10182 and 10190. I built them over a year ago and they have been built every since. 10182 has the Dark Blue Arch replaced with a Dark Bluish Gray Arch and the slopes on the roof were replaced with 2x2x3 Dark Red Slopes. I have a set of original instructions for it. 10190 has the Dark Blue Arches replace with Tan, which looks better IMO, They looked out of place in the original set with the tan bricks underneath. Anyways, I also replaced the hoses for the rails with White Quarter Round Fence pieces, again, I think it looks better. I also have a set of original instructions for this set. Pics can be seen here: http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=526043 So my questions are 1) is there a market here for "Bricklinked" sets and 2) what would be a fair price for them? Thanks for your input, Jamie
April 23, 201311 yr I think these will be valued as incomplete sets eg at market price - cost of replacement parts - shipping and hassle discount. Good luck
April 24, 201311 yr You could probably find buyer's for $250-400 respectively. But, I'm not sure what it cost you to comprise all the pieces, with individual shipping per order. I'd start there and add a percentage for your time building and making sure you have the correct number of parts to complete the models. You could ask $25-75 less than what it cost to buy a 'used' MS or CC and see if anyone bites. From the pictures, I really can't tell where the substituted parts are
May 2, 201311 yr All I can recommend is don't tell people how much you paid to build it, no one wants to pay way more than what it cost you to make something. Then again, people gladly pay $500 for an iphone that cost $5 to make, so what do I know. Art is another exception, maybe you can work that angle. Edited May 2, 201311 yr by Henchmen4Hire
May 3, 201311 yr the 6 blue arches you are referring to are rather rare, and go for 15$ each, so that is a total of $90 parts value missing.
May 3, 201311 yr I think as long as you inform people it is incomplete from original, there would still be some interest. If the price is decent enough, they may be willing to buy it and then get the replacement parts later. Obviously it depends on what you paid for it and how much it would cost to finish it completely. Some people that are just now getting into the Modulars may want a near complete set instead of trying to bricklink it themselves (they may have no interest in bricklinking and want the final product as best as they can). I would also suggest probably as close to the original value minus the replacement costs. If no one bites, then there isn't a market for it at that price. The main thing I would be concerned about is having the total higher than what I paid for it so I don't lose money on the deal. That's the only business advice I can give. With that said, looking at the final models. I don't think I like the tan arch as much as I initially thought I would. The blue stands out, but the tan almost blends in too well. Hard to describe I guess. But I do like the white railing. I think either way works for that. When I bricklink my own MS, I may copy your rail idea. Best of luck!
May 5, 201311 yr Author I have a pending sale on these 2 sets now for $750. The buyer thinks it is fair and I think it is more than I paid to build them. Thanks for the replies, Jamie
