Sandy Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Boomingham gives a sly smile to Umbra. "You would prefer war between the families rather than peace?" "Zere is a zing called pride, you know? Ze 'Inckwells 'ave caused nozing but 'arm to my famille ever since we came 'ere. Our buziness was doing just fine wizout zem, so zis charade of an engagement is unnecessary and totally uncalled four." Boomingham smiles too at the father. "Intelligence and ambition are two traits that I have an easy time respecting. You and Mr. Hinckwell made a good choice in joining your families. I am glad that it was done for love, as well." "Oui oui, bien sûr!" Boomingham gives a critical look to Bellanotte. "I am married as well, my dearest. From a very young age, and in an arranged situation. It is not an easy path, but it is worth it. Love has the power to change you for the better, even if it is painful. I wish you and your future husband the best." Boomingham glances up at Nyx on the stage. "Do not forget that there is more than one type of love, either, mademoiselle. You and your future husband are very important to the future of Eubric. Do not fall out of love." "Thank you for your kind words, sir. I will have to remember that..." The crowd was getting restless, since it was time the main course was to be served. The heroes saw the maitre d' sending waiters to the kitchen to check up on things, but none of them seemed to come back. They exchanged worrying glances, hoping that Arnulf and the others had things under control at the kitchen. Boomingham gathered Nyx and Thothwick to the side of the stage to consult them about which one of them would go to the kitchens. It was then that Bilbert Wigglepike stepped on the stage again. "Ladies and gentlemen, the most exquisite dinner you have ever experienced is being prepared in the kitchens right now. Unfortunately it is taking longer than anticipated to get it to your tables, so our main performer, the oh-so-lovely Barbariccia Dellamore has agreed to grace us all with a song that will surely get your minds out of your stomachs and into the heavens!" As Mr. Wigglepike talks, someone approaches the heroes from the behind, tapping Thothwick to his shoulder. The Metasimian turns and sees a bearded man offering a ball of wax with a sense of urgency in his eyes. He points at the wax, then to his ear. How does the party react?
Professor Flitwick Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 "Those eyes... I've seen them before... somewhere." "Hello, good sir... is earwax a custom in Dwarfish culture?" Thothwick pulls a handkerchief from his pocket, spreads it over his hand, and extends it out to the short stranger, allowing him to put the wax inside it.
Zepher Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) Boomingham stares at the small man. "How did you get in here?" Boomingham watches as Thothwick accepts the wax. "I hope you know what you're doing, Thothwick." Boomingham glances over at the golum. He seems a little... anxious... This is a new emotion for him. Boomingham walks over to him. "What's going on in the kitchen? I've got comrades in there." Edited May 12, 2013 by Zepher
Sandy Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 "Hello, good sir... is earwax a custom in Dwarfish culture?" Though the man is shorter than Thothwick, he is no dwarf but a full-grown man. The man gives a piece of the wax to Thothwick, then points his ear again. "...!" "How did you get in here?" The bearded man shakes his head fervently, and as Boomingham turns his back on him to walk to the golem maitre d', the bearded man tries to pull him back by tugging at his cape.
Professor Flitwick Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 "How did you get in here?" Boomingham watches as Thothwick accepts the wax. "I hope you know what you're doing, Thothwick." "Truth be told, my Lord, I've really know idea. I'm 'playing it by ear', if you'll pardon the pun." Though the man is shorter than Thothwick, he is no dwarf but a full-grown man. The man gives a piece of the wax to Thothwick, then points his ear again. "...!" Thothwick attempts to part the short mans hair, in an attempt to locate his ear.
Zepher Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Boomingham stumbles backwards a little, still feeling a little buzzed from the drink. He steadies himself and looks down at the short (full grown) man. "Alright then, staying here. What's your story, boy-o? Speak up." Barty bursts quietly into visibility at Boomingham's ear. The angel finally greets Nyx and Thothwick. "Good day to you, Nyx, Thothwick. Sorry you've had to deal with this buffoon of a man alone thus far, he thought it would be smart to keep me invisible for surveillance but all I saw was him making an megablocks out of himself." "What do you want, Barty?" "Listen to Thothwick. Be careful with this boy. He has the smell of dark magic on him." Boomingham rests his hand on his sword, but other than that stands back and lets Thothwick investigate.
Sandy Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 QM Note: I hope you realize that I need quick reactions to this turn of events. There is no time for elaborate trap-checking, compass scrying or z-mailing - otherwise you will have to face the consequences of stalling. Thothwick attempts to part the short mans hair, in an attempt to locate his ear. Thothwick's inspection shows that the man has wax stuffed into his ears as well. "Alright then, staying here. What's your story, boy-o? Speak up." "...!!!"
Zepher Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Boomingham grabs the wax. "Onwards and upwards. Either this is a trap, or the boy is helping us." Boomingham scrutinizes the boy for a second or two. "Dark magic, Lawrence." "Oh, I just want to stop hearing you talk. If it were a trap he wouldn't have come to us." Boomingham stuffs some of the wax into both of his ears. "You two as well. Time to trust me. Thothwick, Nyx, we may finally be seeing some action. Hope for the best."
Professor Flitwick Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Thothwick's inspection shows that the man has wax stuffed into his ears as well. "...!!!" Thothwick suppresses a retch. Using his handkerchief-clad hand, attempts to scoop out his wax-filled ears, preferably without retching. "Good day to you, Nyx, Thothwick. Sorry you've had to deal with this buffoon of a man alone thus far, he thought it would be smart to keep me invisible for surveillance but all I saw was him making an megablocks out of himself." "An apparition of Orang Pendek?" Thothwick stares at Barty, agog at the sight of him. It's enough to take his mind of the his unpleasant task at hand. "... And what, may I ask, are you?"
Sandy Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 Thothwick suppresses a retch. Using his handkerchief-clad hand, attempts to scoop out his wax-filled ears, preferably without retching. The man stops Thothwick, shirking backwards and blocking his ear with his hand. He then glances worriedly at the stage, where Bilbert is finishing his speech. "Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome... BARBARICCIA DELLAMORE!" The crowd begins to applaud as the background canvas at the back of the stage changes from a daytime landscape to a nocturnal one. QM Note: I'm going to wait for Pandora's reaction.
Zepher Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 OoC: You can wait for Pandora, but based on our (many) previous quests together, I'd be willing to bet a fair amount of gold that she'd follow Boomingham's lead. Boomingham growls. "Thothwick, chap, you've gotta to do as I say for at least a day." Boomingham attempts to stuff the wax into Thothwick's ear if he can. "I am an angel of Ennoc, a bright light in a dark world, sent to try to steer this poor man into a more righteous direction so that he may be made-" The rest of Barty's response is cut off by Boomingham's whacking his hands over the Black Knight's ears. Boomingham glances over at Umbra, at Lorcan, and at Zelda Zeigfried. He tries to warn them that something is coming with his eyes, raising an eyebrow and cupping his hands over his ears. "Barty, go tell Zelda to cover her ears. See if you can get to Umbra as well. Oh, and for the love of the gods, cover your own little ears as well, just in case." Boomingham rips the cork off of his nostrum and downs it as a final precaution, and then stands stock still, staring at the stage, hand on sword. OoC: Please note also that I drank a mead pages and pages ago.
Professor Flitwick Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) "Quite right, my Lord." Thothwick winces as the wax is shoved into his ears. Edited May 12, 2013 by Professor Flitwick
Sandy Posted May 12, 2013 Author Posted May 12, 2013 QM Note: Very well. If Pandora would have chosen otherwise, she can blame you for it, then. The high and mighty of Eubric applaud wildly as a young blonde woman in a flowing white dress appears from the curtains. Barbariccia Dellamore raises her hands and the crowd goes quiet. Out of nowhere, an eerie melody starts playing, even though the heroes can only hear it faintly. Then, Barbariccia starts singing. The crowd listens to the voice in dead silence. The heroes sense there is something very wrong about the songstress. Thothwick pays attention to her amber eyes...
Professor Flitwick Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Thothwick's face contorts into a mix of dread and surprise. Glancing from the bearded man, to Barbariccia, back to the bearded man, and once more to the singer. "[Oh fu-]"
Endgame Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 A few notes of the song drift through the cracks of the door - nearly silent, hardly audible. It sounded divine...My hands fall limp for a second, nearly dropping the bow. I quickly steady myself and grab the bow, trying to block out the snippets of the song that managed to reach me. "Do... do you fellows hear that?"
