"Oh, I just want to stop hearing you talk. If it were a trap he wouldn't have come to us." Boomingham stuffs some of the wax into both of his ears. "You two as well. Time to trust me. Thothwick, Nyx, we may finally be seeing some action. Hope for the best."

Nyx does indeed follow suit, stuffing the wax into her ears without a second thought as she nods a quick smile of "hello" at Barty. As some of the faint melody washes over them, she looks around the room with a growing sense of unease. Something in the music makes her reach out and place her hands on both Thothwick and Boomingham, as if wanting to feel their connection and trying to add to her senses. Her body tenses, ready, and she waits.

Arthur's Plaything begins rippling uncontrollably--he rips it out of his pocket to stare incredulously at it.

"What the fu....??" The possibilities begin to click in his mind. If Byblos had... "Oh, shit. Sorrow, we're about to have enemies on two fronts...and of two different factions. I hope the other Heroes survive..."

"Well, it isn't Steerpike. But I don't like it." Boomingham glances around at his companions. They of course have their ears plugged, so can't hear his direction or concern.

Barty seems to have not quite made it to the other party goers, but hangs eerily in the air, drifting sort of aimlessly. Boomingham tries to swat at him, but he is out of reach.

"Oh, enough of this. We were told to protect these people. Clearly this woman does not have the good of the party at heart." Boomingham rips his sword out of its sheath, gulps down his mulled wine, and tosses his military grade fire bomb at the stage.

Nyx sees the audience all staring blankly towards Barbariccia. Suddenly they all get up from their seats, and gather to the front of the stage. Even the people on the balcony lean closer to the railing. The heroes remain unaffected by the hypnotic song, thanks to their makeshift earplugs.

Arthur holds up the writhing Plaything, which looked like it was trying to turn itself inside-out despite being a solid blob of oozing semi-solid Chaos. "Really? It doesn't take a scholar to know that something bad is coming..."

"Orbs of pure Chaos don't react to just ordinary circumstances...no, there's something powerful at work tonight..."

"Nagure, what do your instincts tell you?"

I groaned as Arthur revealed one of his orb's tricks. Feeling the dread and anger slowly rise, now seemed like a good time to exercise my knowledge of Necromancer cant - it'll sound better then it would it normal English, anyway. Ahem:

"Xre'travitri ergr'hox ren'om'urnman oom'robic xre'tarta'diolon gal'olunum gresolar'abab xre'travit!"

My eyes are downcast as everyone -even the wolfgang goons - stare intently at me, wondering hat gibberish I just spewed.

"...Please, don't ask for a translation."

QM Note: Tsch, tsch! No battle actions outside of battle!

Boomingham tosses his only bomb towards the stage, but a figure steps out from the curtains in front of the singing Barbariccia, deflecting the bomb somewhere backstage, where it explodes without casualties. Boomingham recognizes the figure as none other than Nikolaus Steerpike himself. The Wolfgang poisoner is accompanied by two werewolves.

While the heroes engage Steerpike and his lackeys in battle, Barbariccia stops singing. The whole crowd stands still, just staring at the woman.

OoC: I don't think my inspired is being taken into account. Also, for the purposes of this battle IF YOU CONSENT, Guardian Angel should have a 50/50 chance of being sentinel. Also, Steerpike should probably only be immune to negative effects, if he's immune to all effects, his second special won't do much good.

Boomingham can say nothing to his allies. Barty drifts by him and shudders. Boomingham smacks him, and the angel awakens, though apparently he is still groggy. He stares at the hypnotic singer.

Boomingham swings Scupperer at Remus from the front row.

QM Note: I noticed I forgot to double your health, it's fixed now. And of course I meant that Steerpike is immune to negative effects, thanks for pointing it out.

But why do you want Guardian Angel to be Sentinel half of the time? Just for roleplaying purposes? Isn't that a disservice to your party...?

Posted (edited)

We've done it in the past. I was playing Barty as effected by Baba. If you think the battle would be impossible that way... let's say that bomb I wasted jarred him back to full form.

But, if that's the case, let's have a little bit of fun roleplaying it!

Thothwick moves to the back row, in order to briefly address the crowd.

"It's her! The bitch who took Bluto! Baba, the Witch of Kalakita bog!"

Turning back to the stage, Thothwick hurled his Shuriken at Wolfgang Werewolf Lupus.

QM Note: Well, I'd say it's up to you if you want to do it, since you don't get any benefits from it (on the contrary).

Just don't come crying to me when you roll only Sentinels and your party is badly poisoned, blinded, confused, afraid, cursed, etc.

Oh, and if you want to hear what Barbariccia or Steerpike has to say for themselves, be sure to remove those earplugs... if you dare.

Nyx stares slightly as the two guys next to her move towards the werewolves, leaving the stronger poisoner for her. She wishes she still had her Parasol equipped.

"Chivalry, pfft." she mutters, knowing none could hear.

She grabs her Amethyst and her Zee's Standard and prepares a Darkness spell for Steerpike from the back row.

Bowen - Free Hit vs. Nagure (No Effect)

Crossette - Free Hit vs. Sorrow (No Effect)

Arthur blinds Crossette, then hastens himself and attempts to blind Bowen as well, but fails. Sorrow's gold reaping venture slays both Burlesque and Cedric, and earns him 188 gold. Nagure is attacked by Ajax, but the yeti just shrugs it off. Sorrow continues his killing streak by assassinating Drugog as well. Arthur blinds Bowen on his second attempt, and confuses Arrowic. The rest of the Wolfgang thugs attack the heroes freely, but only Elijah manages to cause any damage.

>Thothwick (Shuriken) vs. Lupus - Hide

Nyx - Badly poisoned (-10 dmg)

Remus - Bleeding (-5 dmg)

Boomingham gets a great hit on the other werewolf and makes him bleed. Nyx's spell goes awry, and Steerpike gets a chance to inflict her with his devastating Half Moon Venom. OoC: Nyx remains in the back row because that is where she fell asleep, no?

Boomingham growls again as Nyx goes down. He rips the wax out of his ears and turns to Steerpike.

"What have you done to her?! What is your goal here?" Boomingham swats at Barty and roars. "Nyx is down, pay attention you fool!"

Either the swat or Nyx's condition snaps Barty out of whatever trance he is in. He flies to the young girl's side. "Nyx, get up!" he howls.

No amount of heavenly singing can stop me now! In a flurry I cleanly slice several of the pathetic wolfgang goons, mowing down their ranks with ease.

"Hah. Looks like this old wanderer still has it in him!"

Battle Order:

Nagure vs. Ajax

>Sorrow vs. Elijah

>Sorrow vs. Arrowic (back)

>Arthur vs. Bowen

>Arthur vs. Crosette

"Arthurs ether is running low, so I figured we'd take it nice and slow this round. Lets just wrap this farce up, shall we?"

"That's what I have Ether Cores for. Leave Bowen and Crosette while they're blind, and let's finish the others!" Arthur casts Blindness at Elijah, then throws his Unlucky Horseshoe at Elijah (Back Row) before casting Fragile on Ajax from the Back Row and casting a Darkness spell at Elijah from the Back Row through Sir Roderick's Sword.

OOC: If I fail to throw the Unlucky Horseshoe at Elijah, I'll throw it at him again instead of casting a spell.

Battle Order

Nagure vs. Ajax (Front Row)

>Arthur (Blindness) vs. Elijah (Back Row)

>Arthur (Unlucky Horseshoe) vs. Elijah (Back Row)

>Arthur (Fragile) vs. Ajax (Back Row)

>Arthur retrieves Unlucky Horseshoe OR (Unlucky Horseshoe) vs. Elijah (Back Row)

>Sorrow (Mockthril Longbow) vs. Elijah (Back Row)

>Sorrow (Mockthril Longbow) vs. Arrowric (Back Row)

"Argh, I forgot I sold you those."

"It's all right, it was a rather chaotic night." Arthur winced at his own words. That night, this one--was it not over after all? Or was his bravado in the face of The Regret actually true? Was he truly cursed to wallow in Chaos for the rest of his life? His arm trembled with uncertainty as he waited for an opening in which to throw his Horseshoe.

I rase an eyebrow as Arthur convulses.

"Don't tell me the song is getting to your head, too."

QM Note: Technically, yes; Nyx stays in the back row. She gets a chance to recover from her sleep each round, remember.

"What have you done to her?! What is your goal here?"

When Steerpike speaks, he has a low and hoarse, almost whispering voice.

heroicanpc-steerpike.jpg

"You must not interfere. Master Ulric and that witch made a deal, and I don't really like it any more than you do, but what can I do? I'm a follower, not a leader."

Barbariccia does not listen to Steerpike, but addresses the crowd.

heroicanpc-barbariccia.jpg

"Children of Eubric, you are mine to command. All will to resist me within you fades, and you will obey my every word. Listen well. You feel aggravated and anxious. When you look around you, you see only hostile faces and scornful looks. You cannot trust anyone. These people want to hurt you and your family. Even your own flesh and blood will turn against you. You are alone and lonely. You..."

Interrupting the enchantress, Ambassador Luneth walks to the stage. He seems unaffected by her spell as well.

heroicanpc-luneth.jpg

"I know you, Sorceress of Babeleth! Your wily tricks have never worked on me, nor will they now!"

heroicanpc-barbariccia.jpg

"Chancellor Luneth, what a pleasure seeing you here after all these centuries! Time has not been kind to you, I see. So you survived the cataclysm as well?"

heroicanpc-luneth.jpg

"How I hoped that the sea had swallowed you along with the Mad King Haeresias. Alas, what would kill the devil?"

heroicanpc-barbariccia.jpg

"Come now, you know the downfall of Mercution was not my doing. If you give Azazot a finger, he will take the whole hand, followed by your body and soul. Haeresis was a fool. I have no such weakness."

heroicanpc-luneth.jpg

"You conniving sycophant! I know you whispered to Haeresias's ear and lead him to the Pandemonicon! All you ever sought was power for yourself. Did you really think that once we Moon Elves were gone, you could rule Mercution? The demons would have never accepted a parasite such as you as their queen!"

heroicanpc-barbariccia.jpg

"Ha! You have no idea of the extent of my power. Let me demonstrate!"

Barbariccia shoots a beam of energy from her hands at the ancient elf, sending him flying across the stage.

Luneth lands with a gruesome crunch, and lays very still. Barbariccia turns back to the crowd.

heroicanpc-barbariccia.jpg

"Direct force rarely leads to satisfying results, but I must admit that I enjoyed that. Now, where were we..."

Steerpike lets out a disgusted grunt.

"You see now why I have no choice?"

I attack Ajax from the front row.

"Why do I get the feeling that we're the only ones doing well?"
