Sandy Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 Thothwick bursts out from his hiding place... under a table "And pray tell, Baba, what is your role to be in this New World?" OoC: Sorry I never got a chance to post yesterday, I went out straight after work. Sorry! "My role? It remains to be seen... But every king needs a queen by their side, don't they?" "Don't push it, witch! That was not part of the deal you made with Ulric." "I would say he needs me just as much as I need him. We fulfil each other." QM Note: Geez, don't apologize for having a life out of the internet! Heroica RPG should not be anyone's #1 priority in life.

Sandy Posted May 18, 2013 Author Posted May 18, 2013 "Let me tell you a secret. People like you and me? We're the heroes Eubric deserves, not the ones it needs. We can try so hard, and get so far, but in the end it doesn't even matter; in the end, we have to fall. Because we're the villains. Even though we truly want to make the world a better place, that's who we are to them. They will always hate us. And we will lose because of it." "That's where you're wrong. Eubric loves us! Not the six houses or any other people in high places, of course. But go take a walk at the Hovels, or the Harbour, or the farmlands beyond the walls. Talk to people there, and find out that their lives have been made better by Wolfgang. We took out most of the other crime syndicates, and we only steal from the rich. The streets of Eubric are safer for commoners now than ever before." "Yeah, the biggest problems in Eubric are caused by the corruption and oppression of those in power. Slaveworkers, racial discrimination, overpriced tolls, prices of common wares gone through the roof, unemployment, the friggin' Hovel Wall! Those are all examples of what your precious Houses have caused to Eubric. Yet you label us as the villains for not taking the "high road" and succumbing to that treatment." "And besides, what about people like Patricia? She wants the world to be a better place, and she's in a position to do so. Why not support her? Or better yet, why not change the system from within, convince the Houses to work together for the betterment of Eubric? Why hire petty thugs and common criminals? I just don't understand why things have to be the way they are. Why the people who are best for Eubric--no, for the world--are doomed to be at each others' throats." "Captain Patricia is a stuck-up bitch wrapped in her own ideals so tight that she sees nothing else. Obedience is everything to her, and she gets her pay check from the six Houses." "Some time ago, I infiltrated the Town Watch barracks pretending to be a mole for Wolfgang. I was surprised to see how easy it was to get some of the watchmen to my side. They were disappointed and frustrated with the status quo as well. Patricia is sitting on a ticking time bomb. One day soon she will find out that she's a one-woman-army." "Ulric is a smart bloke. When he came to Eubric, he saw the need for change, but he also knew that he would have to start at the very bottom. Gathering the outlaws and the poverty under his banner is but the first step in his plan. Those goons you just slaughtered, they were cannon fodder. They had no place in New Eubric to begin with. They were criminals and thugs for a reason. Sadly, the same applies to me and Violetta, and to Steerpike to an extent. We all are low-born, stealing and deceit is all we are good at. We are soldiers in Ulric's war. He treats us good, but if we die, he won't shed any tears for us." "Speak for yourself, Donny. You haven't made your way to Ulric's bed like I have." "You're delusional, V. You're his mistress, not his queen. I think that witch will take that spot in his life." Violetta goes all red all of a sudden. "But I don't feel right about fighting you two, either." He kneads his forehead. "Damn it, if you two just used your talents for good instead of working with the worst sort of criminals..." "You don't have to fight us, honey. We don't want to get in there, we trust Steerpike has everything under control. We're only here to deliver you this message from Ulric. Help us make Eubric a better place. Heroica has had 250 years to do that, yet it's too concerned with saving the entire world to succeed in saving it's hometown. Your skills are undeniable, though, and with a proper leader, Heroica would prosper as well." "We won't stick around forever, though. The watchmen are patrolling these streets, and we have no intention of getting our butts delivered to Patricia."
Endgame Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 As the last goon crumples to the ground, I breathe a sigh of relief - only to have the gesture cut short as two of the most high ranking Wolfgang generals appear before us. I listen carefully as they speak, my brow furrowing as they continue their tale. I resist the urge to snort when they offer their reputation, seeing that Arthur was getting infatuated by their words. I, however, was not. A broken soul is easily led astray, I suppose... but also led back onto the path of righteousness, hopefully. "I applaud your efforts, you two, but it truly isn't enough. Do you really have faith in Ulric? He who would treat his highest officers as mere pawns, and most of his army as expendable? Why do you think he would be capable of molding Eubric into some place truly free, when you're just all just tools to him? For the love of Helvetia almighty, he can't even weild the power he has correctly - if he could, he'd keep a damn leash on his thugs! I've seen then mug and rob people on the streets for nothing but profit. You say the hovels love you, the poor applaud you, and yet... why haven't we ever seen that?" I down a Mead, Nostrum, and Smelling Salts. "The "Perfect Eubric" your owner would like to establish is a farce - and I'm sure he is well aware of it, too. You've become quite complacent with your ideals ever since Ulric came to town, haven't you? Probably is the best way to his bed, but I digress..." With a roll of my shoulders I remove the Croise Armor, instead coiling the Shackles of War along my arm. I brandish my bow to the two wolfgang, the elemental gems within it thrumming with power. Though they can't see it, I can't help but smile a devilish grin... The two elemental gems thrum with power, the bow cold to the touch and its arrows slathered in a thin layer of darkness. "You see this bow, you two? Designed to massacre werewolves, and humans as well if need be. Damned if you do, damned if you don't. Now, tell me, how many arrows from this bow would it take to end you? Two? Perhaps three? And remember, lady and gentleman, there will be no escape for you if you fight. Choose wisely." I turn to look at my other two party members. "I only hope you two will stand with me."

A riot of about 20, a mere fraction of Eubric's population... and the riot was trying to assasinate the... Bonapartes, correct? What else could they do? Killing the houses would only serve to throw this city further into the depths of chaos. You have no idea what you're doing, do you? By destroying one house only give reign to another. Zepher Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Boomingham grimaces as Remus falls. He whips out his favorite handkerchief, still covered with bits of pie, and dabs his sweaty forehead. He head swims a little. "All that drinking is catching up to me. Let's shut this witch up before she gives me a headache. Nyx, Thothwick, I see you're looking to end my dance partner. Give me a moment and I'll join you." Boomingham wheels on Lupus and slashes at him from the front row.

Zepher Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 OoC: Uh-oh, I've done that before. Maybe just take a second to retype the important story dialogue (i.e. like Baba and Steerpike's two lines) and then let it ride. That's generally what I do, but god do I know its a pain in the @ss. Also, Lupus should be bleeding. Boomingham spins around to see Nyx reeling, lost again. He reaches out a hand to steady her. "Easy there, stand still, we'll finish the brute and in the event that we don't, you can." Boomingham turns next to Thothwick. "Think you can hold him for another round? I'd like to go at him in peak condition, if I can." Boomingham heals himself from the front row.
Professor Flitwick Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 Thothwick nods in response to Lord Boomingham, and attacks the 'him' he believes he's referring to, Steerpike, from the back row.

The annoyance fades, and she focuses. The Ether within her senses the enemies in front of her, so she channels her Darkness magic at the violent core of Steerpike as she stays with Boomingham in the back row.

They rioted for Ulric and the future he promised, did you not know that?" "Oh really? That's not what I've heard. You say you supported those riots. How would that have been safe for anyone, rich or poor? How would such a chaotic, uncontrolled brawl not turn into a massacre amidst such wild confusion? And what about Grogmas eve? Where were the Wolfgang when Pongcanis warriors and beasts of Chaos stormed the streets, murdering the innocent and killing true heroes? Would that not have been the perfect time to show the city how much you truly cared for them? We weren't too busy saving the world to save Eubric. We were here. My past three Quests have been in this city, trying to save it. And I'm probably going to fail. But damn it, I have to try." "And really, what's so wrong about trying to change the system from within? Have you even considered a path that doesn't involve brutal murders that will throw the city into chaos? Let's not forget, after Heroica put down that riot, Hestia Bonaparte--one of the people they had just tried to murder--brought them back to life. Is that the action of a monster who won't see reason? Besides, from what I can tell, the next generation of the Houses are much better than their parents. Violetta, you say many of the Watch were sympathetic to your cause. Might not the children of Eubric's leaders be similarly sympathetic? If we can just hold the city together until they take power...Eubric can work itself out, over time, and fewer will die along the way." "Bottom line, your cause is just, but your methods aren't. You're doing the wrong thing for the right reasons, but it's still the wrong thing. Eubric does need change, but not the sort you or I can offer it. If the Wolfgang want to go straight, I'd be happy to walk you through it. But as it stands now, you're just going to cause more problems than you'll solve, and I won't be a part of that. I've walked that path before, and I will always help people off of it. But I'm not walking it again." Violetta turns to the gigantic yeti. "You haven't said a word yet, you hunky lump of fur. What do you think about the Wolfgang? Aren't we just the coolest?" OOC: Since Costy is offline for a few more days, I'll give him the option to decide this retroactively. "Nagure. Just a word of warning. Whatever decision you make, I won't hold it against you, but if you do side with them, you'd best stand with us in battle, even if you do nothing but stand in front and protect us. I don't know if I'd be able to protect you if any others of the Watch saw you fighting at the Wolfgang's side." Nagure gives Arthur a look and whispers something to Violetta, before moving back to stand with the others. "Now, let this end as it must." Edited May 18, 2013 by Flipz
Endgame Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 I stare at the two generals, serene... With a roll of my shoulders the layers of cloaks roll off my body, carried away in the evening winds. Beneath the layers of black were simple peasant clocks, old and faded beyond belief. A ashen skeletal frame lies beneath them, singed in appearance. Bandages run up and down my arms, coils of cloth covering my scarred forearms. I go up to Arthur and lay a hand on his shoulder. "Good call. Broken souls are led astray, Arthur. You weren't." I turn my gaze to Donny and Violetta - bow in hand, arrow pulled back. "To kill for your own ideals is a crime... to kill for another's is a cardinal sin. I dislike putting others through the death I endured - but I have no qualms dispatching pawns. May Helvetia have mercy on your souls, and may the afterlife be a good place to reflect on when Violetta and Donny died... and the pathetic thugs before me were born. EN GARDE."
Costy Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 Nagure finally notices that everyone is staring at him, looking like they expect him to say something. "Uh, sorry, I was looking at the kitty-cat, I think I just missed everything you said. I'm guessing that catgirl and browncape are the baddies, and by how angry Sorrow looks we're killing them?" I raise my hammer and prepare to attack the Wolfgang Generals.

Endgame Posted May 19, 2013 Posted May 19, 2013 (edited) "Skipping right to the werewolf form, I see? No need to waste time, I suppose... Our victory was certain to begin with." I should be Lucky, Encouraged, and Hastened, and have the Shackles of War equipped over my Armor of the Croise. Nagure should be Hastened and Lucky as well. Sandy, I have currently been given control of all other heroes, and I already talked strategy with Flipz, so we should be able to run this. Battle Order: >Arthur seals Violetta (back) >Arthur uses Jinxy Juice on Violetta (back) >Arthur seals Violetta (or blinds Donny) (back) >Arthur uses Jinxy Juice on Donny (back) >Nagure vs. Donny (front) >Nagure vs. Donny (front) >Sorrow vs. Violetta (back) >Sorrow vs. Violetta (back) Edited May 19, 2013 by Endgame
