I also step down a bit harder to listen to my footsteps, to see whether or not the ground we were standing on was solid or had something beneath it.

Arthur also reaches out with his longsword and taps the ground, listening to see if the sound is unusual in any way. He also uses his Magnifying Glass to examine the door and entryway for any unusual features.

"Nagure, think you could check under this porch for anything unusual?"

Nyx checks the wereturtle's instruments for evidence of being mortally dangerous-musical weapons before making her way back to the ballroom floor.

"That Phoebe seems nice, might be disappointed in Hinckwell though, from what I've heard." Nyx whispers to Boomigham "And sure, I'll go chat, you just put your feet up. "

Nyx wanders over to the gentleman carrying the flower arrangements.

"Oh hello" she smiles "don't want to disturb you. Do you need any help putting these on tables? They smell lovely. :sweet: So, do you often work at these big fancy dinners?" Nyx checks the flower arrangements if she's allowed to place them. "Are you looking forward to hearing Ms Dellamore sing or have you heard her before? Do you know anything about any of the guests, or have there been any... unusual arrangements? Aside from us being here, of course. Say, you don't know where we might get a glass or three of Mead do you, it's ever so thirsty work this." Nyx continues to smile encouragingly.

"Thothwick, would you mind going to talk to that Orcish waiter?"

Thothwick nodded to Boomingham. "Wish I communed with more of the staff back home. Could've helped me find a common ground..."

Thothwick sneakily peered into each of the goblets, whilst pretending to make sure each were perfectly aligned with the vase. In an attempt to integrate himself with the waiter more, Thothwick adopted a more 'common' tone.

"Hello, my Orcish chap, I, uh ... mate! I imagine such a distinguis- What's a working class term for distinguished? - experienced looking waiter would've worked here for some time?"

"Hmm...perhaps. The compass DID point toward the theatre, in any event, so contrary to my paranoia, the singer is not, in fact, Steerpike in disguise...anyone else you can think of that it might be a good idea to check up on?" Arthur glances inside and sees the Watchman on duty. Arthur attempts to recognize the man.

Arthur recognizes the watchman as Private Gladstone, a young brute who's all brawn and no brains. The corridor is too long for them to communicate with each other.

Someone, press their body against the door while I check something out. Nagure, if its you, please take care not to crush the doorframe."

Sorrow is unable to go through the door, since it is bolted from the inside.

While he waits, he checks his Magic Compass for the locations of Donny Dozenhands, Violetta the Cat Burglar, and Ulric.

With nobody in sight in any direction, Arthur tries to use the compass as a tracking device to see where the other Wolfgang leaders might be. However, it only spins around without stopping. The Wolfgang are not so easily found, after all...

Boomingham himself walks around and checks the two potted plants absently, and then checks the floral arrangements on each table before taking a seat.

Boomingham dips his hands into the dirt of the potted plans and then into the water in the vases, and ends up with dirty hands and nothing more.

Arthur also looks for any overhangs above the alley.

The theater is four stories high, while the opposite building has three floors. There is quite a jump in between the two buildings.

They find nothing out of the ordinary.

The Kappa Quartet is taken aback as Nyx climbs the stairs to the stage and grabs their instruments from their hands. One of the wereturtles even snarls at her.

"Do not disturb the musicians. Do not climb to the stage. The Watchmen have already checked everything here. Your job is to guard and observe."

"Oh hello" she smiles "don't want to disturb you. Do you need any help putting these on tables? They smell lovely. :sweet: So, do you often work at these big fancy dinners?" The waiter glances at the maitre d', and excuses himself without answering any of Nyx's chit-chat. He then moves out of the room.

"Hello, my Orcish chap, I, uh ... mate! I imagine such a distinguis- What's a working class term for distinguished? - experienced looking waiter would've worked here for some time?"

The orcish waiter lets out a polite cough signifying he is too busy to talk. He then proceeds with setting the table.

After a while, Bilbert Wigglepike rushes into the ballroom.

"The first guests are starting to arrive! To positions, everyone! And be quick about it!"

heroicaquest66-maitred.jpg

"You heard Master Wigglepike. Chop chop."

The servants, who were speedy before, now put on a second gear as they put on the finishing touches. The heroes have to retreat to a corner so they wouldn't be in the way.

"Right. Unless Sorrow wants to try to Track Down Steerpike on his own, we'll just wait here on high alert until something changes."

I look warily at the alleycat.

"Do we... you know?"

"It's not Violetta, so we'll let it be." Arthur pulls a small chunk of preserved meat from his pack and breaks off a piece for the feline, eating another piece himself. "Want some? Rations aren't the best food ever, but it's food. We may be out here a while."

Posted

I accept the dry meat and nibble on it, my eyes darting around every corner of the vicinity.

"Rations better then no food. I'm staying on high alert day and night - if any of us need to sleep, we'll do shifts.

So barring your... previous quest... have any other ventures in Heroica?"

"I fought the Bro'bric Elves at Bric'bay with the Lion Knights...they're good allies of mine, I might consider joining their ranks as a Skirmisher one day. I also fought with them in Dastan...I suppose you've heard of all that happened there? That was my start of darkness..." Arthur looks away wistfully.

"That was my first time leading a party--Skrall and our Rogue were whisked away by a Dragon to fight a Chimaera, and our Knight and I were left flailing. After that, I chased Wren in the Valley of Ennon. If...if you don't mind, I'd like to not dwell on that time. I then ended up leading another party to track down some Ji Pei goods that were stolen by the Bonapartes as they tried to smuggle them out to their off-island contacts. We stopped them, of course. We met a good crew there...Captain Illdria of the Magpie and her crew. A compassionate woman, she is, she's taken in those souls no one else would touch, and they work all the harder out of gratitude. Wish more folks were like that." He sighs. There were so many he wished he could help. But he couldn't help everyone...not at once, anyway. He'd have to trust that Count Knyghton, and Captain Illdria, and even Emperor Alandri would do fine on their own. Forgive me, my friends. Eubric needs my service.

The first guests to arrive are notable merchants, guildmasters and lesser nobility residing in the city. Among them are three presentatives from nearby cities. Bilbert Wigglepike rushes to greet them.

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"Welcome, welcome! I cannot express how glad we are to have our dear neighbours here to celebrate our 400th Foundation Day. This means so much to our nation!"

heroicanpc-mumbasa.jpg

"Harrumpf! I'm here for the free food and drinks!"

heroicanpc-diana.jpg

"What do you mean by a nation? As far as I know this city still has no laws or a proper ruler. Bunch of outlaws, that's all you are."

heroicanpc-luneth.jpg

"Captain Mumbasa, Lady Diana, where are your manners? You speak for Miranda and Drandora, respectively, do not put cities to shame! Mr. Wigglepike, the King of Moone sends his regards to your powerful city, as do the remnants of my people, the last of the Moon Elves. Did you know that on this very spot there once lay the great realm of my people?"

heroicanpc-bilbert.jpg

"Thank you, Ambassador Luneth, and yes, I have heard the myth of the sunken Mercution. Perhaps I will one day craft a play about the subject."

heroicanpc-luneth.jpg

"A myth... Well, after all this time, what else could it be...?"

The other two representatives have already walked through the doors. The elven elder follows them, lost in thought... or perhaps memories?

"Wonder what kind of guests will be at this party..." Just then, Arthur feels his Zoot's Plaything begin to react. He removes it from his pocket, but a few minutes of study reveal nothing unusual. Shrugging, he slips the pulsating orb back inside his cloak.

Nyx approaches Ambassador Luneth and curtseys politely.

"Sir, I am Nyx and I am honoured to meet you. I heard you mention Mercution, and I would love to know more about the great and honourable heritage of the Moone Elves and the sunken Mercution, if you would be so kind as to indulge me."

"Chef Yasmar, allow me to explain, I'm assigned here with my assistant to check that everything is in order, you know the importance of this evening , we'll be quiet"

Arnulf waited for chef's response still watching other people's movements.

Posted

"Thanks, Arnulf." Kiray inches closer to the rogue. Kiray peers into the pots and pans, away (if possible) from the chef's long reach.

"No problem, I'll deal with him, you two check what you can" Arnulf whispered back, feeling some relief. Getting near drinks doesn't seem as good idea and Arnulf knew it.

Thothwick, whose ear was pressed hard against the door, was listening intently to whom was about to enter. He leaped back just as the ambassadors entered.

"Ah, Lady Diana, you're a vision! I dare say your elegance even exceeds that of fair Drandora! Speaking of which, how is she this time of year? May I assist you in finding your seat?"

Posted

I raise an eyebrow at the concentrated ball of... stuff.

"Why the black goo?"

"It's concentrated Chaos--a Zoot's Plaything. It's an artifact of great power...and it just reacted to something--or someone--just now." He shrugs. "It's not our problem--at least not yet. Unless it walks down this alley, it's not our job to deal with it."

"Got it." Kiray tiptoes over to an assistant chef.

Boomingham watches with an unhappy eye as Thothwick engages the Lady in conversation - but, he supposes that's just how things are. He waves to the final guest, Mumbassa.

"Hello there chap! Care to join me for a drink? I'm afraid I arrived a little bit early, I've never been good at time. The name is Lord Lawrence Boomingham. My kingdom lies in the High Kingdoms. Where do you hail from? What's your drink of choice?"

Grimwald spoke calmly to the, uh... thing standing before them. "Now now, Chef Yasmar, there's no need for profanity. You wouldn't want us to have to tarnish your good name in our kingdom, now would you?"

Leaving the fat megablocker to Arnulf to deal with, Grimwald quietly made his way over to the grey-skinned assistant, observing him tactfully, readying himself for another barrage of curses.

"Anyone else getting a bad feeling about Lieutenant Serevan? Something about him just doesn't seem right."
