Posted April 27, 201311 yr Hey all So, finally, I managed to complete something out of my own head instead of a guide. The idea was to take as many elements as possible from the haunted house, and make a costume shop with living space on top. I'm not all together satisfied, but I ran out of both ideas and usable bricks. So, here goes nothing - please be gentle in your critisism. On the first floor we got the horror costume shop On the second floor is the shopkeepers, in my little town thats the fortune teller from the CMF series, apartment The attic is where she can make all her hokus pokus when the shop is closed And lastley theres a view of the building and the entire town on display. I'm kinda convincing my self, that the build is ok - since every town needs something really ugly, to make all the other buldings shine...I'll probably regret that statement some day. /Xeen
April 27, 201311 yr It fits in really well, maybe a third floor in the future would make the roof line fit in with the other modulars Seeing all the modulars together, it's times like this the 800x600 rule should be abolished so we can see the models in all their glory!
April 27, 201311 yr Author Thank you :-) The original plan was in fact one story higher, but i ran out of bricks that fitted the colourscheme. Thats one of the things i'll look out for on the PAB wall next time im in the store. Theres also some things about the pavement, floors and the entire roof i would like to do differently, so its still a WIP but i'll get there eventually.
April 27, 201311 yr That's actually a quite nice building. There is no need for an additional floor, but I would add a window to the front of the attic.
April 27, 201311 yr I really like it! So much so that I would really like to see a photo of the building not surounded by the other modulars. It really should be showcased. The idea of a costunme shop run by a fortune teller is very clever. I do agree that an attic window would look nice. Overall, very nice. Andy D
April 27, 201311 yr Very nice modular redo 'Xeen-ia', I agree - not every building needs to reach all the same heights. Brick On 'Xeen-ia' !
April 28, 201311 yr Author Well thank you all :-) I'll look into redoing the attic with a window. At the same time I'll probably redo the roof, since im not all together happy with it as it is now.
April 29, 201311 yr While I agree not every roof needs to be the same exact height, I do think more height to this building would be better. I know you ran out of pieces, but if you look at the other Modulars, most aren't one color throughout, so maybe you could incorporate another color (at the base perhaps) that frees up some bricks for the upper level? Just a thought. Otherwise, good idea MOCing out of a designated amount of pieces. Helps keep your build techniques count more. Also helps you think of new ways to construct things. That's why I never order pieces for MOCs I'm doing. If I don't have it, I need to find a better way to show the same idea. It has worked for me so far. Keep up the good work.
May 4, 201311 yr Very nice MOC for a start, considering the fact that you limited yourself to only one set. The costume shop is very interesting and the fortune teller is quite an appropriate shopkeeper. Don't worry about the lack of ideas, they usually spring up when you least expect. Haunted house is obviously very inspiring building.
May 6, 201311 yr Seeing all the modulars together, it's times like this the 800x600 rule should be abolished so we can see the models in all their glory! Well that's not the 800x600 limit that prevents from publishing pics a little bigger than 320x240 like here :p
