Hi guys, I just wanted to know if I can improve this "Lego Room" in any way, so it's more suited to storing and displaying the stuff. Here are some pics

mmmmm, I'm not sure this strictly can be called a Lego Room, it appears to be a Bedroom, where you have managed to clear a tiny space to build Lego?

A wall of covered in Lego Base plates so I could attach bricks or minifigs to the wall

Then there would be a suitable workbench

And a load of sealed display cabinets to keep the dust of the sets

I'm planning to convert a room into a LEGO room-bed room.

Here are some of my ideas:

  • a bed-table ... something like a table with these tilt bins full of LEGOs and above the table a bed,usefull and it doesn't consume a lot of space.
  • a lot of shelves
  • a possible layout ...
  • above the layout shelves for storage and a TV.

A wall of covered in Lego Base plates so I could attach bricks or minifigs to the wall

Pretty good idea if you want to collect SW or castle.But maybe a minifig shelf (custom built) would be better or not....

Also convertable furniture is very usefull,at least for me.

Oh and I personally use these boxes from IKEA for storage,you can stack them and the fit pretty good and they come in many sizes.

Sorry, I was a little vague there, what I meant was like a room suitable for lego. Also, I don't really have access to a spare room, so this was the best I could do. In the future I will have a fully fledged Lego Room though! Thanks for the ideas, they were great!

That's a great layout, very versatile. Also, for storage I use ice cream tubs. As for IKEA, I live in South Africa, so I haven't actually seen anything quite like it.

Well,you can always use corrugated cardboard or any bigger plastic boxes.

As N33 mentioned IKEA is a good starting point for basics. For display I use a Billy Book shelf (http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/83688210/), a little shallow so does not store a build with great depth but fits a decent amount of lego.

Some of the kids toy storage ideas have potential as well http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/categories/series/19027/.

IKEA has good ideas but it is a little expensive,at least for my pocket.

Those shelves where you put those boxes can be made very easily,you don't need to buy them.In my opinion you need to buy only what you can't build.I only buy those boxes,but I wouldn't buy a shelf for ex 30 pounds and I can make it for let's say 10 pounds.

Just as I said,I'd combine 2 pieces of furniture like the table and the bed,you can make the same thing with ... I don't know a cabinet and a table and you have a workstation and a place where you can store clothes or whatever.

in the US they are buyable at most Target/Walmart/home goods stores. I love that they fit a 32 square baseplate and that they stack nicely. There are ones double the depth for colours I have a lot of and there are ones half the size such that two of these half sized ones sit on the lid of the full sized box and they don't slide.

I prefer bins to drawers so that I can fetch out just the colours or type of parts I'm using and have their bins on my desk top. I stack them under my desk.

because you can move the dividers to make whatever length compartments you like within the tray, very versatile. Plus even though they are $10 normally, this store forever has 40% off coupons =)

Displaying I can't help with. I rarely display anything after its built. So dry and living by the scorched hills, gets very dusty, very quickly.

Cara - those Wal-Mart tubs look really expensive. I'm sure I've seen them there, but have never considered picking them up. But they look good for people that want a bin instead of a drawer. I think I'm going to go the drawer route.

As far as that Joann divider, I've never seen that before. I like that you can change the size of the dividers. I never go in there so I would never have thought of it. Thanks for showing me that.

Didn't know how big the Rescue Helo was, just bought one for a bargain price off Ebay.

Was looking at wall shelves myself to display my tecnhic stuff, planning on building a large table for my trains......

The bed is for sleeping in piles of Lego. :D

I had to go check and yes! that 6 for 38 price is whatever they do online. I generally get them for about $3-$4 each, the same sized tub also sells at Target with a different coloured handle.

If I had a work space where I could access all of the drawers, I can see the appeal. I'm trying to remember who it is here that has this gorgeous basement with a wall of drawers. If I see the picture again I'll link to it.

It seems that you have to do quite a bit of skill full maneuvering to go to your bed and else where in that room. I would suggest wall mounted shelves since the room is small. If possible i would suggest moving out that double decker bed since you sleep on the other one and putting a table there so that you can build.

Don't have a table, and besides, I like the display I have there already. It's not that hard to get to my bed, I like the squished between feeling. Very cozy :wub:
