Kai NRG Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 This is pretty much a result of several table-scraps I had laying around, and I had been wanting to implement the Lowell Sphere technique for a while... and that April Fools joke gave me some inspiration... (no ostriches though!) My brother though the eagle was a penguin at first sight... *sigh* Also, I used the Brick Bending technique for the flag, which was really the main inspiration for this: Comments are welcome! Quote
Brickington Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Looks great! I have to say my favorite part is the flag, I have never seen this technique before. The hamburger was nicely done as well. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 3, 2013 Posted May 3, 2013 Nice little build. I think the Eagle may look different if it were brown instead of black?? Also if it was perched on something instead of standing on the ground. But even with that said, I think the Eagle is a great build. I haven't seen it in that scale before. Good part usage! The flag is really neat. I haven't seen the brick-bending technique before, but it makes sense. I think I may have done something similar before, but then scrapped it because I didn't think I would like it. Good job overall! Quote
Kristel Posted May 4, 2013 Posted May 4, 2013 This is really neat, Kai! I agree with TheLegoDoctor that brown may be a better choice as I thought it was a penguin at first too! Mind you, that doesn't detract at all from the cleverness of the build. The flag looks fantastic as well. Only one thing that bugs me - the gap between the meat patty and lettuce on the hamburger. Is there a way to fill this? Maybe with something like a round plates to represent tomatoes, onions or pickles? Quote
Kai NRG Posted May 4, 2013 Author Posted May 4, 2013 Thanks guys! Yes, my beautiful penguin... Nice little build. I think the Eagle may look different if it were brown instead of black?? Also if it was perched on something instead of standing on the ground. But even with that said, I think the Eagle is a great build. I haven't seen it in that scale before. Good part usage!... Thanks! That's a good suggestion, I probably should have looked up a few reference pictures (what color is the body?), but anyways, most of the pieces I used for the body I don't have in brown - unfortunately. ...Only one thing that bugs me - the gap between the meat patty and lettuce on the hamburger. Is there a way to fill this? Maybe with something like a round plates to represent tomatoes, onions or pickles? Well, the problem is that the gap is not a whole stud in size... instead it's the amount at the end of, for example, a headlight brick or cheese slope (the approx. 1.2 here). So there's no easy way to fix it. It might be possible by a very clever use of pieces with studs on multiple sides, to eliminate the gap altogether... but I'm not sure and didn't think it was that important. IRL it's a bit less noticeable as the angle is generally not as straight-on. Of course, if you didn't mind getting your pieces dirty, you could probably squeeze some real ketchup (or mustard, if it were my hamburger) in there... As far as the flag, I knew I would have to try the technique out sometime soon after I read that article! I hope some of you find it useful... Quote
