New style Scene Minifig magnets

I dont know the official name for these. Other than Minifig Magnets. There were SW figs, Batman and Superman. I only grabbed Boba Fett to check it out.

The disc with the background scene is the magnet.

Boba Fett is pinned thru his back into the plate.

Well, that's not very usefull, now is it? That's a total waste of seven dollars.

You could probably have given the money to a bum. At least the bum would've bought some beer with it.

You could have some fun and fix a big firecracker to the magnet. That might be worth the seven dollars.

I dn't mind that they are not removable, I think Hasbro gave Lego no other option. It's cool that they are single carded, hat is a nice new extra. I think that they will be popular with colectors anyway.

The only thing that bothers me is the Yoda packaging, I lke Yoda, with a stick but not with a lightsaber in some dumb action phose.

I'm trying to take one apart. I peeled the magnet pad off the plastic backing and there's a pin that attached itself to the back round plastic bit. I'm going to see if I can pop it off the plastic.

Will report back.

Not a bad way to get some nice minifigs if we can remove it.

I got to a point where I think I'll need to destroy the round background in order to access the metal pin on the back of the minifig. I haven't decided if I'll do that yet as I still have the option of reassembling it and using it as it was intended - a magnet.

The pin that's attached to the back of the minifig is well and truly embedded into the round plastic back.

Looking at Solscud's pictures, I'm thinking you'll at least have to cut off some or all of the protruding round black bit around the pin from the background, so you can get a pair of wire cutters in to cut the pin. Then I assume you could cut the pin again as close as possible to the jetpack, take off the head and helmet, bend the pack a bit to slip it over the pin and off the neck, and cut the pin once more close to the torso so that it'd be hidden when the pack was put back.

Ok, I managed to pry the Iron Man off the back of the magnet. The minifig is now off the magnet backing but there's a large metal pin sticking out of the back (the pin is thicker than the ones embedded in the key chain minifigs).

I basically peeled off the magnetic round backing. I tried to pull the minifig off but the pin is firmly embedded in the plastic housing. I ended using a pair of small scissors (not pictured) to cut the round backup towards the housing. I then cut around the round housing, thus freeing the figure from the backing.

Then I used a pair of small scissors (not pictured) to cut as much plastic away before pulling the black plastic housing off with a pair of small pliers. What's left is the pin.

I haven't pulled off the pin from the back. I wonder if I can use the soldering iron method to heat up the pin before pulling it out. Haven't got mine with me at the moment so can't try. I tried to use pliers to pull out the pin but without proper leverage, it's hard.

You'll notice that the minifig has removable head, mask and accessories.

NB: This is probably the cheapest way to get the Mark VII Iron Man that's exclusive to the Quinjet 6869 set. :-)

Jesus these are worse than before, back then it was three magnets for $15, and now it's one for $7. A little less than half the price, yet only one figure. And I don't think the background makes up for it.

I'm fairly certain that they were originally $10, actually, back when they had the magnets in the legs and torso and came in the plastic boxes. But the price increase is to be expected.

Oh that's interesting, when I started to collect lego again it was 2011, so I was probably unaware of that. Thanks for letting me know.

I agree, as I said earlier I personally felt they should have been Lego cartoon backgrounds.

Here is how i did it. Be warned, this causes creasing at the back of the figure but tolerable for my standards. Besides you can assemble it back without having to tell the difference if not closely inspected.

It's okay. I'll just continue never buying the magnets. I'd buy them if the minifigures were completely natural and unimpeded. They'd make a great way to get rarer figures (even at their ridiculous markup).

Think I in the minority but I love the new magnet range. The backgrounds are really nicely printed and look great. Some are better than others, and they chosen better backgrounds for some - eg the Leia in the iconic Death Star corridor is really good. Wish they'd do a few rarer figures and maybe a bit expensive.
