Artifex Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I was just wondering... What's the one set that really gives you the pain for NOT having bought it? Even if you bought it later on -- or especially if you never found the opportunity to buy it again --, what's that one set that really makes you not only angry with yourself, but completely frustrated for not having bought it when you could have? For me it's the Green Grocer. The first time I ever saw it was on a Lego store, and it was its final year around. I didn't buy it because the Grand Emporium had just been released and I didn't know the Green Grocer would not be around for long. I had the opportunity to buy it for a very good price on ebay, but I decided not to because the seller had not sent me all the bricks on another set I bought from him (even after some mail on the subject). From then on, I have never had the opportunity to get the Green Grocer for a good price again, and everytime I remember that one moment I had it in my hands it pains me and I get angry with myself and really, really frustrated. Not only because I had the opportunity to buy it for a fair price in a Lego store -- but I didn't do it! --, but also because it is my favourite modular Quote
krystalKING Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 So far, only the red cargo train, and I just won an auction for one! This makes my birthday all the better. Quote
kibosh Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Hands down, the UCS Falcon. Could have had it for $350, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a single LEGO set. REALLY want that one... Quote
Andy D Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I would have to say... The Green Grocer. It was still available when I got started with modulars, but all I wanted was the Cafe Corner, or so II thought. I soon found out that with modulars "you can't have just one". I BL'ed both the CC and GG, I thought was saving money, but at that time I could have got them on eBay for about $350 each. Hindsight is 20:20. Now any set I really like I buy 2, no more regrets. Andy D Quote
Cwetqo Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 10190 Market Street I was visiting "Laser" fair in Munich and went to LEGO store, which is close. It was my first visit to lego brand store, so I was mainly looking. I didnt know that I will find store there so I only had limited amount of money. They had bunch of Cafe Corners and I really liked it, but I did not have enough money then. I had enough for Market street (it was 90 euro) but I decided that I will rahter save for cafe corner. Next time I came (after just few months) I got Cafe Corner and I wanted Market Street too, but It was gone forever and prices had already skyrocketed. Quote
Kez Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 All of the batman 1 sets, I could have gotten them all for half price aswell but I wasn't too keen on them until recently Quote
Kivi Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Black Seas Barracuda I desperately wanted this set when I was a child (together with the rest of pirates sets, of course) but it was out of the question getting it then, the main reason being the price. Then I spotted it in 2004 when it was a part of Legends series and despite an affordable price then (60 GBP or something) I left it slip away again. I now attribute this to the fact that I was in the darkest period of my dark ages at the time and neither would it be easy to carry it home from England. Luckily, when I came out of my dark ages my interest in pirates wore off and I now I don't regret it that much. Quote
escortmad79 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 Cafe Corner & Grand Carousel, although I was still in my dark age at the time & both had been discontinued by the time I got back into Lego Quote
Leo604 Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 During Boxing Day I decided to get Mirkwood Spiders instead of waiting maybe another week to save up and get Attack of the Wargs; by in large the latter still seems to be the better set. That's probably the most recent 'regretful' decision I've made, since I'm still reasonably satisfied with the Mirkwood set. Quote
Hey Joe Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 (edited) It's Emerald Night for me. I'm hoping Lego will issue a more American-looking steam loco, but if they don't... Joe Edited May 8, 2013 by bjtpro Quote
Jelle Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 It was the Lego Airport Shuttle monorail set 6399-1 for me, it came out just when i entered my dark age. Last year when i came out my dark age I've bought the set twice with some extra tracks. Best thing i've bought in a long time. Quote
Gryphon Ink Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 Winter Village Toy Shop AND Bakery. I dilly-dallied way too long. I missed the Cottage too, but hopefully that one will come back this winter. Not much hope for the other two. Quote
robuko Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 My regret list - UCS MF (who would want 12kgs of plastic cluttering up their home?), Cafe Corner (too big and expensive), and all of Batman 1. I think the one I was closest to buying was the Catwoman Pursuit, so that is the winner! Somehow I thought the tumbler was too expensive at GBP50 in Japan...I thought I could get it on discount and of course it never happened. Quote

kibosh Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 The second Technic supercar from 1999 (?) The 8880? I really need to build that again... Quote
streifen Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 It has to be the UCS Falcon for me! I held the box in my hands but put back on the shelf! Aaaarrrrrgggghhhh!!! Quote
jonwil Posted May 8, 2013 Posted May 8, 2013 I regret not buying the police station with the light-up cop. Only City police station I dont own. (I have all the others going back to the short-lived World City theme, the one with the orange-jumpsuited prisoner) The fan-designed Space Skulls set would have been nice to get too (I did get the Star Justice set though) The re-issued Octan Gas & Wash Express set would have been nice (although given how many Octan parts I now have, I certainly dont need it anymore :) The Mindstorms Ultimate Builders Set would be nice to go with my RIS 2.0 (not that I can use said RIS since I cant get it to work on my Windows 7 x64 PC) There are a few of the large d2c sets that I wish I had been able to get too like the Green Grocer, Eiffel Tower and 787 Dreamliner. Quote
Drock Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 The UCS Death Star. I was just getting back into LEGO when it was $150 (about 50% off of RRP IIRC). At that time I was thinking I would never spend that much on a LEGO set. Since then, I've bought three sets at $400 and several other sets over $150. Dropping $150 on a LEGO set now doesn't seem like much. Quote
Alternator Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I'll only include those which I have had a chance at (not ones from my dark ages): The Imperial shuttle The Carousel And I'm of two minds about the Emerald Night, I think I perhaps have regret because other people value it, I'm not sure if I would of or not (although I often find seeing the completed models convinces me I do like them). But really I think I can survive without those or any other given set, as it stands I've got quite a few waiting to be built, and a lack of space to put them. I'm also confident that Lego will continue to produce compelling sets to purchase so there perhaps isn't as much need to worry about missed opportunities in the past and instead look forward to opportunities in the future. (it also means more funds available for those future opportunities). Quote
Brig. Brick Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 All of the batman 1 sets, I could have gotten them all for half price aswell but I wasn't too keen on them until recently agreed, all batman 1 sets! Quote
bacem Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Vezon & Kardas. i really regret to not buy it when i see the last stock in store until it burned down, literally. Quote
prateek Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 While I was not in a position financially to be able to buy them when they were out, I am sad I missed out on 10184 Town Plan and 10231 Shuttle Expedition Quote
TheLegoDr Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Skull's Eye Schooner tops the list. I always regretted not having that one, but I don't recall really seeing it until much later. I don't recall ever seeing it in a store or holding it in my hands because otherwise I would have it. I had pretty much every LEGO set I wanted as a kid (some call it spoiled), so it's odd that I never had it. Granted I would have been about 10 when it came out, so I wouldn't have had any money to buy it myself. It is very possible I just never knew about it until after I came out of my Dark Ages. But it would have been available during my original LEGO life. So who knows. As far as holding a set I wanted and then putting it back or seeing something available and not buying it only to find it gone forever at my next visit...I can't think of anything. I think any of the sets I want that I don't currently own are sets that came out during my Dark Ages and I won't pay those high prices for them. I think I have purchased every set I wanted ever since coming out of my Dark Ages, so I haven't missed out on anything yet. Quote
Big Cam Posted May 23, 2013 Posted May 23, 2013 Hands down, the UCS Falcon. Could have had it for $350, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on a single LEGO set.
