For me, 3677 red cargo train.....I had to keep cancelling it on layby at Myer's due to cash flow issues two years running. :cry_sad:

That sucks, when lack of money prevents you from buying something you really want.

Market Street. I did not start buying modulars until Green Grocer; Market Street was (and still is) the worst modular (IMO, of course), but now that I have all the others, a complete set would have been nice. I don't have the inclination to bricklink it, though.

If anything, I wish I'd known 9V was being discontinued when it was... I was on sort of a mini dark ages and completely missed out buying possibly hundreds of straight tracks for a fraction of MSRP.

There are lots of sets I regretted not buying. I got interested into buying Lego in 2008, with a brief dark age in 2009. I regretted not buying the 7993 Service Station and 7994 Harbour. But the 1 set that I regret not buying the most is the Green Grocer, the pain still lives on to this day.

Besides the sets you had the opportunity to buy, for having already come out of your dark ages, but you regret you didn't, are there any sets you have let pass that you wish you should have bought?

I bought my Grand Emporium on ebay for a great price, but I didn't buy a Gren Grocer from the same seller -- also for a great price -- because when I got the GE it was missing pieces and he wouldn't aknowledge it. Nowadays I regret I didn't do it, because it would have been very easy to bricklink any missing parts AND I would have a GG...

Fred,

I have the other three as well, CC, GG and GE and spares of each to expand them. I did not care for Market Street, and have not bought it even though I love the other three modulars. Even when I adore a line or theme, I only buy the sets that I really like. Not enough time or money or space to collect everything in the different themes that interest me. It does not make sense to me to buy sets one does not like in order to complete a theme, but I don't care if others do.

I would rather buy two of the sets that really appeal to me rather than one of everything. And for many sets all I may want is a mini fig or two, if anything. So it is easy to purchase those on BL most of the time without getting stuck with a set that does not interest me but might have one minifig I crave.

The only thing I wished we had bought is a spare of is the Taj Mahal because it is just so beautiful, and my son might want to build one of his own for their place. Otherwise I have bought most of the sets I really wanted. I have learned to buy those I like when they are introduced because we never know how long they will be on the market and available at the original prices.

Most of us on EB have limited funds for LEGO purchases and have to learn how to enjoy what we have, which is not a bad idea. How many sets do we really need to make us happy? Certainly not everything that LEGO sells!

Now that I think more about it, I would have to add the Taj Mahal to my list of missed opportunities. At the $500 retail price it was more than I wanted to spend then... But then it came up as a half off, I found out about it and clicked in just minutes late... Bummer... I don't think I would have pain full price back then, but half off... I try to keep a closer watch now. Still, Bummer...

Not angry or frustrated that I didn't get it, just saddened that I was too young when it was on the shelves and I missed out. The Rock Raiders HQ.

Rock Raiders was (and perhaps still is) my favourite theme, and having missed out on the flagship set is quite disappointing.

Tough choice to single out one because these three are alike in the fact they are purely for display and not play, but I'd really like to have 10024 Red Baron, 10124 Wright Flyer, and 10187 VW Beetle. They are just a little too high on the secondary market for my taste :classic:

i remember this old train set that was made a long time ago. it was black and the theme was space. dunno what it was. i only saw it once.

6991 Monorail Transport Base

This is probably the only black train in the 'Space' theme, that I can think of. Hopefully what you're talking about :classic:

Oh snap, when I saw the pic of that set I suddenly remembered how fascinated I was of it when I saw pics of it years ago. I wanted that!

Another one that gets me is 10200 Custom Car Garage. I guess I just slept on it when it was available, but for whatever reason never bought it. Sadly, I probably never will either. The price tag is getting up there and if I bought it, I'd have to sacrifice buying some of the awesome current stuff.

Always regretted not getting a 10181 Eiffel Tower - My local toyshop had stacks of them at one stage at a very good price, but I never made the commitment. Same with the 10177 Dreamliner. Oh well - after reading this thread, Im glad to still have my UCS Snowspeeder, UCS Falcon, Airport Shuttle and various others.

Brick Beards Bounty and Space Police HQ. I had a short dark age when both sets were out, and now I regret not buying them

Brick Beards Bounty is an amazing set, I was lucky to find it brand new for a cheap price last year myself - after also having missed it back when it was out.

The 1999 castles. My mum refused to buy them for me because they were too expensive. I really, really wanted an awesome castle. Those where the best I think. I still want to get those sets, but it's not going to happen anytime soon. The biggest set I had until I was 15 was the 6907 Sonic Stinger. I loved that toy. My mum got it me for Christmas, then decided it wasn't a good idea because I liked it far too much and it was a boys toy (she always had a thing about me playing with boys toys, who cares?)

I have the 6090 castle, which was my favourite set as a kid, alongside 6195 Aquanauts Base.

I also have the 6097:

They are all in boxes, awaiting for me to move out. I don't know if I still have the instructions booklets, but I can always build something new from them.

There as many I wish I could buy more recent, but the ones that hurt most are the modern Castle and Kigdom themes.

I also been recently attracted to the City theme, wich I didn't care much as a child. It's not only because of the game, but I find the new models, specially the vehicles to be really cool designed.
