Posted February 16, 200718 yr Hi, i thought it was time for this place should have a space building contest you here we go. Breif Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to build the best space vechicle in the whole universe! You can build anything that is space themed like, tanks, jets, rockets, bases, hover craft, alien creatures, or anything else on a spacey theme. You can use any bricks, technic, system, bionicle bricks or anything else you have to build a space MOC. Anyone can enter, admins, fellows, or who ever you are, you can enter. If you want to help me by creating polls for the voting stages or making banners/ avatars for example, just PM me, all help welcome. Rules 1. No wining. 2. Do not enter more than one MOC 3. Do not steal people's MOCs from brickshelf, it will be an automatic disqualification and maybe ban for more space contests. 4. Have fun. Reward Simply been crowned best space MOCer of the universe....well, the space section of eurobricks anhow. Dates Closing entry date- end of march. Voting will start sometime in the first week of april. Okay, so get building, and remeber, it's just abit of fun. *sweet* Could a moderator pin this topic please?
February 16, 200718 yr I think it's a bit too broad, don't you? If you want, you could make a series of contests for different types of vehicles or something instead? It would make it easier to judge, as you can't really compare a fighter to a SHIP to a mech.
February 16, 200718 yr Personally.... I dont have the resources or time for a SHIP and I dont feel like mechs meh how about a general SpaceFighter contest? and if you want it complicated, add some requirements like: Cockpit must be 'airtight' (not like an F1 racer ship) must have landing gear, optionally make them retract? must have at least 4*4*4studs cube cargo space? oh! heres a point that always bugs me: must have a way for the pilot to get in and out of the ship that doesn't rely on a spacedock ladder truck -like, you can have a ladder, but it must be contained by the ship itself in some way or... pilot must be able to fit in the cockpit without lying on his back asleep? etc... tons of fun ways to narrow down a contest personally, im really liking those last two points, cause lots of space mocs i see suffer from those issues; be a nice way to encourage people to fix it... (now where can i find a nice minifig rope ladder...)
February 17, 200718 yr OK New Suggestion here And I just know you're going to Love it! :-D how about, a "Space Scooter" contest? Tiny, open-cockpit 1 man spaceships designed for EVA/spacewalk operations near asteroids or space stations -specifically Not for atmosphereic re-entry (you'll burn up) (this may not be set in stone... since some classic ones have landing legs and wings...) *but definetly a Different type of vehicle from a SW speeder bike, because it's used in the vacuume of Space
February 17, 200718 yr i kinda agree with sw4j. ships, robots, rockets,... how would you compare all of these?
February 17, 200718 yr What ever you decide please don't add mechs into it. There is already enough mech themed contests. on that note, mecha maybe futuristic but I don't really consider them 'space.' I also agree that you should probably narrow down the parameters of the contest a bit more.
February 17, 200718 yr Author Okay, then, i'll downsize it. The first contest will be just to see how sucsessful this is, it will be space fighters, no exo-force stuff, it has got to be space. I will not be judging by the way, it will be a series of polls. Okay, so space fighters, same as before, you can use what ever sort of bricks you want, no exo-force though, anyone can enter, so, if your interested, get building. Again, PM me if you want to help me. The same dates apply from the first post, but the theme is space fighters Is that okay? Clearly this is going to be an experiment, see how sucsessful it is, and if it is sucsessful, then there will be more for rockets, tanks, hover craft, example. Okay, that all good? I'll make an entry topic when the first entries start to come through, for posting your MOC. You must have 4 or more pictures showing diffrent angles of your MOC. It would be cool if you had a background story to your MOC. If it is based on some space vechicle in real life, say what it is based on. Oh, and thanks for being helpful everyone, and admins, thanks for pinning this topic. *sweet*
February 17, 200718 yr Author Yep, it's fighters, you can include anything that a fighter may carry, guns, jet engines, of course, it's still got to be spacey.
February 18, 200718 yr Well why did you say no Exo-Force? Exo-Force bricks ARE system and it IS possible to make fighters from them.
February 18, 200718 yr Author What i ment was that don't do something on the exo-force range, it's fighters, not robots. If i find that someone has entered an original EF model (how you make it from the instructions) and just changed like 2 or 3 things that are small, it will be DQued or the entry ignored completly. Hope that clears that up- happy building!
February 18, 200718 yr So I suppose this has to be a new MOC and not something I've had lying around? :-P
February 19, 200718 yr Author Well if say if you entered it into a previous contest you can't enter again, that takes the fun and challenge out of it, but if it has never been entered and fits the description of "fighter" then by all means you can enter it.
February 20, 200718 yr Last question (promise): can it be semi or wholly organic? (like, say, some of the Tyrannid ships from Warhammer 40K?) Also: Do they need a pilot?
February 20, 200718 yr Author You could use some non lego peices if you have not got enough lego peices or you think it would be better with more on and yes, it would be good if it had a pilot
February 20, 200718 yr I'm on about the aesthetic (like, say, if it had some Bionicle partsand flippers etc.) Also, is it okay if the pilot's just a head wired in or something?
February 20, 200718 yr Author Okay yeah- you know the dealine for entering these is the end of march, and thanks for taking part in this. I look forward to seeing your entry.
February 21, 200718 yr Hey Op! I got yer entry right here! The Space Rake Link for slow connectors! Took ages to upload! Gallery when public The Rake Fighter is a part of what many space-farers call the "fleet of the damned". Rake pilots used to be humans but were harvested by the fleet. Their brain energy consumed by the Knowledge Eater and their bodies wired into the fighters, they are little more than drones.
February 21, 200718 yr Author Thanks gravy train, i appriciate it, i'll make a topic for entries now, thanks and best of luck. Hopefully there is more than just one entry in this contest!
February 21, 200718 yr I am working on something with retractable landing struts (xenologer ;-) ) I'm not entirely sure I'll finish in time, but I'll give it a shot.
February 21, 200718 yr Author I am working on something with retractable landing struts (xenologer ;-) ) I'm not entirely sure I'll finish in time, but I'll give it a shot. This looks like fun! I'll see what I can come up with. Thanks you two! This could be looking like a good contest, good luck to you. BTW- I am NOT the judge for this contest, it would be too hard sepparating one great MOC from another, so it will go to the voting members with polls. Yes, it is okay to vote for your entry in it's poll
February 26, 200717 yr What i ment was that don't do something on the exo-force range, it's fighters, not robots. If i find that someone has entered an original EF model (how you make it from the instructions) and just changed like 2 or 3 things that are small, it will be DQued or the entry ignored completly. Hope that clears that up- happy building! Mecha is technically considered "Space". In fact, the space subtheme can just be considered "Future" in itself. So mecha is game. -l2k-
February 26, 200717 yr Mecha is technically considered "Space". In fact, the space subtheme can just be considered "Future" in itself. So mecha is game.-l2k- This is not my contest by any means, so I am not the Final Word on this. But in an attempt to mediate... I would suggest that mecha are a gray area; for example in the recent StarTrek Manga (seen it? its fun) the Enterprise encouters alien fighter craft shaped like humanoid robots... I'd argue that a 'humanoid form spacefighter' is probably allowable so long as it is indeed capable of spaceflight (with the associated engines on his back or something) but that ground-based mecha probably don't fit the spirit of what Optimax was looking for...
February 28, 200717 yr I thought the contest had been changed slightly so the topic was 'fighters' rather than space in general.
