I have recently taken a shining to this set. However, shop.lego.com lists it as a retired product. I know I've seen it at a LEGO store semi-recently, but am I too late to get it at a LEGO store? Should I try TRU, who has things in stock longer, instead? If anyone has an answer, please help! I don't want to miss it at retail!

Its retired online but local shops might still have it but they will not order anymore (nor they can) the supply is outside and none are in LEGO warehouses.

Seems like favoritism to me that the Danish S@H has it.

I would not say things like this because you are BOUND to get 100 replies about how much less sets sell for in the US versus everywhere else in the world or how we get some of the license themes first.

It looks to me like you signature might be a tad bit on the large side. Consider shrinking it down before a MOD sees it and gets grumpy!

I was just looking around online and Wal-Mart, Target, Lego S@H, and Amazon (directly) all have Weathertop out of stock or no longer listed on their sites. The only one with it still is TRU. Like others have mentioned, I would definitely check in store before ordering it, but if you can't find it and don't wanna miss out I would act fast and get it online.

It's kind of odd Weathertop is the only wave 1 set out of production, every other LotR set is still available all over online. Is this an indication they all will be retired soon as well and Weathetop sold out first, or was Weathertop just a poor performer and got retired earlier?

It may be that it was a set that did not get as large a production run as some of the less expensive ones, and as such is reaching low stock levels or sold out from the warehouse sooner. It's not that they "retire" it and pull it from the shelves. It's that they have sold out or are selling out of what they have made, but don't plan on going back and making more. So it may sell out in different regions or countries at different times. And may still be found on some retail shelves after it has been retired from S@H.

Weathertop is pricey, and that brought points down on all of the Lego.com reviews. I will check the Target I visit in a few days, but TRU is the most likely choice. I checkesd toysrus.com earlier today and they had it, as Deathleech said, so that's most likely.

Come to think of it, I haven't seen that set in a long time. I'm glad I bought it right when it came out.

In fact the only set I've seen around me is Helm's Deep at full retail. None of the other LOTR sets are even out near me. And only a few Hobbit sets are out. That's odd. I guess I haven't thought much about it since I had the sets already, but hmm.

I guess this is all the more reason for me to pick up the next wave early instead of waiting. You never know with LEGO. Sometimes they are plentiful a year later and others are "retired" way too early.

Oh, wow. I feel sorry for you, LegoDoc! I have seen Helm's Deep, the Mines, Weathertop, and Shelob Attacks last I checked at TRU (a short while ago, and why I got upset over the "retired product" tag on Weathertop) and the Goblin King Battle, an Unexpected Gathering, and Wargsat most retailers. Mirkwood Spiders and Barrel Escape are slightly more elusive, where I've seen them at Target and I think TRU.

I was at my local Target, and they had Weathertop, Moria and some Hobbit sets as well. And the new LEGO Discovery Centre in Torornto has most of the sets on shelves.

It looks like K-Mart has the Weathertop set online and it's only $51 there. Even with taxes and shipping g it is cheaper than at TRU, and if you spend $75 you can use the discount code KMART10PSAVINGS to save 10%.

That's a great deal if I ever saw one! Thanks, Deathleech. I checked a TRU yesterday, and they had it. I was unprepared and didn't get it. Now I'm almost glad, as Deathleech has a better solution. Thanks!

That's not true. This set was available for at least two years if not more. There were rumors that it would retire and availabilty was low very soon after its release, but the it got re-stocked and had normal availabilty cycle. I know that because I also heard that its supposedly gone and purchased it on Bricklink, but then it got back to stores and it stayed there for at least a year (I remembered it so well because it was may first post-dark times set and I also remebered that I purchased it during 2008 summer Olympics).

Ok, back to topic: I saw Weathertop in good quantities at Lego brand store about one week ago, so its not yet retired. In my opinion sets which have limited availability (weathertop was nowwhere to be seen at "normal" shops) tend to be retired earlier. Same is with Police mobile comman, Zombies set and others.

Check your local Target (if you have one). And ask where they keep clearanced toys. I snagged a second Weathertop for 42 just last week. They were also getting rid of a few other early LotR sets.
