DraikNova Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 (edited) Well, while the Dragon Bolt set seems like one of the best LEGO has produced, I was a little underwhelmed by it's size. So, I've decided to make something...larger. I've just finished the legs, which should be a good indicator of scale. Oh, and here's some backstory I've made for the species. Comments and criticism welcome. Edited May 12, 2013 by DraikNova Quote
VBBN Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Starting with a leg picture eh? It's looks fairly decent so far. My quirks are mainly the fact that is seems a bit too flat, there is no depth to the width of the legs, and I also think a bit of angle to the toes could help. Also I'm not sure just how blue you want him to be, but if you are planning a lot of blue elsewhere in him you might want to even that out by replacing some of the silver if you can still make it look fluent. I'm trying to make the upper leg a bit thicker (which will be easier once I start on the body), to give the impression of shoulder muscles. Also, while it's not apparent in these pictures, both parts of the claws can move independently (the back part has two joints, actually). I'm also trying to make the creature a bit darker than the official set. Edited May 12, 2013 by DraikNova Quote
MakutaNocturn Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Ahhh God.. people... try using some Technic pieces pleaaase! It looks too simple. Quote
pocketmego Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 Ahhh God.. people... try using some Technic pieces pleaaase! It looks too simple. I disagree. The ultra build system has a lot of potential, too much potential, to have to cram in Technic pieces every time the model gets larger than a standard figure. It's never going to be able to stand alone as a building system is new approaches and bold new builds are not attempted. I see the potential of what you are doing here and this thing is going to be MASSIVE. I love it. It does need more blue, granted (which I think might help create more illusion of depth), but beyond that...looking good so far. Quote

WARHEAD Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I feel old and retarted again xD Eh, I don't think you're old, just too conservative. Give new stuff a chance. Technic really doesn't mesh too well with HF IMO. Quote
pocketmego Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 I feel old and retarted again xD Not at all. I suspect, I'm older than you actually. :) But, you aren't necessarily wrong. Technic pieces would add weight and stability. But, I think he is trying to keep it all UB. Quote
DraikNova Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) Actually, there are quite a few technic pieces in the build. They're just covered up so it looks less robotic. Anyway, here are some of my plans for this MOC: The wings will be made mainly out of basic upper limb bones. The head will be made out of several armored torsos, and will get a Voltix lightning piece crest. The tail is going to consist out of several parallel lengths of bones, eventually thinning to one. Any suggestions? Edited May 13, 2013 by DraikNova Quote
WARHEAD Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Sounds great man, hope you have enough pieces to pull it off. :V The blue ones especially might pose a problem since they're kind of a rare color. Quote

Which "blue ones"? If you mean blue bone pieces, I'm ordering a few extra just for this build. Edited May 13, 2013 by DraikNova Quote
WARHEAD Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Blue pieces in general are kinda rare, there's only been like what, 3 small sets and one medium one which contained the color so far? I guess if you're gonna make a Bricklink/Pick-a-brick order you should be fine though. Quote
DraikNova Posted May 13, 2013 Author Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) I've actually ordered 45 euros worth of parts, most of which was just for this MOC. Edited May 13, 2013 by DraikNova Quote
DraikNova Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 And, now that I got my order, it's time for an update: Here's one of the wings, with a generic build for scale. A closer look at the wings substructure. And the main body is almost finished as well. Quote
Infernum Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 The body, tail, and legs look great! the wings look very messy to me though. Can't wait to see this completed! Quote
DraikNova Posted June 22, 2013 Author Posted June 22, 2013 Yeah, I've got no idea how to fill in the wings better than this, so I had to go with this. And I'm planning to rework the aesthetic of the build later. First I want to make sure the structure can support that much weight. Quote
