Sid Sidious Posted October 8, 2011 Posted October 8, 2011 I want to buy a lego Atlantis set. I'm going to get the temple, so which of the cheaper sets should I buy, the $10 one or the impulse one. I'd say get the $10 one. The impulse one only has a diver minifig and a fairly common seaweed, gold cup, and snake as interesting pieces, while the $10 one has a hammerhead warrior and a diver, as well as a shield that is exclusive to the set. It also has a lot of red slope pieces and 2 propellers in the new metallic grey color (although the impulse one also has the propellers, so that shouldn't be a deciding factor. Quote
HighFlyer Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 3677 City Red Cargo Train or 10219 Maersk Train? I can only afford one of these two, I don't really care that much about motorisation, and I already have plenty of tracks. Both look gorgeous; so which should I get? Quote

I can only afford one of these two, I don't really care that much about motorisation, and I already have plenty of tracks. Both look gorgeous; so which should I get? If, like you say, you don't care about the motor, I wouldn't be in doubt at all. The Maersk train is gorgeous - the 3677 looks much more like a random pile-up of parts and cars. I've got a Maersk and would probably buy another one of those before picking up a 3677. Quote
Mrlegoninja Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 Well, my birthday is coming up and since money is a little tight, I can only have one set. Anyways VW Camper Van or Ninjago Fire Temple? Quote

I can only afford one of these two, I don't really care that much about motorisation, and I already have plenty of tracks. Both look gorgeous; so which should I get? I'd go with 10219. I have it and love it. The build isn't all that exciting, minus the lead car, too much repetitions. But, it doesn't take away from the final product. The colors are a plus too. Well, my birthday is coming up and since money is a little tight, I can only have one set. Anyways VW Camper Van or Ninjago Fire Temple? This is a toughie... I think these are both great sets. But, I'd have to go with 10220 VW Camper Van. The details are great. Edited October 9, 2011 by Legocrazy81 Quote
lightningtiger Posted October 9, 2011 Posted October 9, 2011 I agree on the VW camper van set, but it's 3677 if you want a powered train....but just one for show go 10219...that's the question powered or don't care if it is ? Quote

lightningtiger Posted October 22, 2011 Posted October 22, 2011 Battle of Endor vs Pod Racers This one's though for me Ah, better question is OT or PT.....I own Battle Of Endor and it's my Star Wars set. Got love the wall's flying outwards. Quote
Canada_7 Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) Finally got the Grand Emporium yesterday (well I don't have it physically yet, but got the shipping notice yesterday; was waiting for it to go on sale and finally snagged it with the Creator-theme sale at TRU). Completely ignoring the above, anyways here's what I'm considering...so with Lego having double VIP points this month and the small Christmas they're giving away to orders over $99, I'm considering either the 10210 Imperial Flagship, 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van, or 10222 Winter Village Post Office. TRU's website in Canada has the Imperial Flagship but since their pirate section only has like 2 sets (they put the Pirates of the Caribbean stuff as a separate theme), there will likely never be a Pirates theme sale. It is also the older of the two sets so it will be discontinued likely earlier than the VW Van. For the VW Van, I have liked the van ever since I even heard the news of this set coming out. It is only available from Lego S@H or stores. It's cheaper than the ship and also just came out. The post office is by far the cheapest of the 3 options. The main things are its price point and that since it's a Winter Village set, I'm afraid it will only be available for a limited amount of time (even though it is a new set that just came out). It's currently only available from Lego S@H or shops themselves. TRU Canada's website carries the previous two winter village sets in the bakery and the toy shop and if this post office set continues the trend, at some point it will hopefully also be on the TRU site. I hope sooner or later I'll be able to pick up all 3 but at the moment I cannot afford to get both at the same time. Edited October 23, 2011 by Canada_7 Quote
autobrick Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 (edited) Battle of Endor vs Pod Racers I know this defeats the purpose of this thread, but I say get both. Battle of Endor is arguably one of the best OT sets released and Podracers is the best Star wars sets of 2011 (both my opinions, of course, but I'm sure I'm not alone in feeling this way). You would be doing yourself a disservice by missing out on either. I recommend Battle of Endor first (likely to be discontinued soon) and Podracers second (you will likely have until 2013 to pick one up). As you mentioned, it is extremely unlikely it will go on sale before it get discontinued, which it will, before the other two. I have yet to pick up the VW Van or the Post office, but I'm in no rush; sooner or later I am sure TRU will carry them and eventually they will have a sale. I'm positive the Winter Village Post Office will be available for at least one more holiday season, seeing as both the Winter Village Bakery and Toy Shop are still available (released in 2010 and 2009, respectively). lightningtiger Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 When I read these what should I buy set A or set B, I scratch my head and say well it's very clear which.....the set that is older than the other....rule of thumb I guess you can say. 'Canada_7'...'Autobrick' is right buy the 10210 as it's a 2010 set over 2011 sets unless they are of very limited release. Quote

It's a great ship, and won't be around as long as the Van and the Post Office. The other two Winter Village sets were both in the catalog I got a few days ago, so I don't think you need to worry about going away for a few years. Quote
RememberTheLittleGuy Posted October 23, 2011 Posted October 23, 2011 Salutations everyone, Straight to the point: just recently getting into the whole Castle theme, I'm stuck between purchasing the MMV (Never bought one ) or two of the upcoming Kingdom Joust set. Open to suggestions too. Thanks! Quote

Open to suggestions too. Thanks! I'm not that much into Castle, but I have got the MMV and it's wonderful. I'll probably be picking up the Joust set as well, but from the pictures I've seen so far I like MMV much better - plus, the same point that's being repeated over and over in this topic: It's the older set of the two, and is likely to be discontinued soon - maybe even as soon as the Joust set is available in January... I'm not even into Pirates, but I bought this the moment it came out. I have gotten such great comments on this ship. People are shocked when I tell them it's Lego, then comes the closer inspection. I love it. It's a pretty neat build. Honestly, the only downside to this set, as with all ships it seems, is the lack of cannons. Salutations everyone, Straight to the point: just recently getting into the whole Castle theme, I'm stuck between purchasing the MMV (Never bought one ) or two of the upcoming Kingdom Joust set. Open to suggestions too. Thanks! Sorry for the double post. I'm posting from my iPad and I can't scroll down to the bottom. I wouldn't hesitate to buy 10193 MMV. It is one of the best sets Lego has made. It's a great price and a great build. Since you plan on getting 10223 Kingdom Joust as well, it would go great with it as an expansion to it. Quote

I almost think this set has the best value of any set currently available, and you'll truly regret not getting. The joust could easily be available until 2015, so you'll have plenty of time to pick it up in the future. Quote

It is an awesome parts pack, the minifigs are very detailed and useful (I really like the old man), and it comes with the two cows. At $100 for over 1600 pieces it is a very good deal for your money. Get the MMV. Quote

Sokratesz Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 I got a load of salary from my work at uni yesterday so I'm gonna blow some on LEGO. Basically, my options for this month are twofold: - I have an option to buy a used 7750 in good condition with box and instructions for about €300 (I think he will take 280 though) - Or I could buy a Technic Unimog (~150 new, a bit less used) Both would be great to have, I collect both 12v trains and Technic. But I'm torn. What say you? - Sok. Quote

It's in many ways the holy grail of Lego trains, being almost 30 years old with lots of rare and unique parts, and it's probably the second best looking steam engine after the Emerald Night. I'd go for it if you are a big train fan as getting a set in good condition from a trusted source will be hard to do. The Unimog will probably be on the market for most of the next two years and so you will probably get another chance to pick one up. Quote
Zeya Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 (edited) I have a wide open "which set" question for you all. I have $5USD to spend at Toys R Us, in the form of a gift card, basically. (It's their cash back coupon that's just a flat $5 credit in the form of a barcode that they scan.) I would consider using this coupon toward some set that I really want, but I'm afraid I've essentially bought them all. Oh and I have to do this by Halloween before the coupon thing expires, or these $5 just go to waste. So my question is, what small impulse set can I buy for around $5? I won't use it for CMFs, since I have them all. I usually buy pirates and castle stuff, but I usually use these types of coupons on stuff like Atlantis impulses and City impulses. I usually go for the minifigure accessories or unique parts when doing this, for elements not found in pirate/castle sets or for citizens for my modular buildings display. Any good ideas? Maybe a polybag or something? Edited October 26, 2011 by Zeya Quote
