SheepEater Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 (edited) LOTR Tower of Orthanc. Better by far than any set from any theme in 2013 so far. The only thing that comes close is the Ewok village, for its ridiculously large minifig collection. Town sets of 2013 - same old boring, disappointing, repetitive crap that we get each year. Oh look! More fire and police sets! Only the orange train is OK. The new modular building (cinema) is boring as heck. Technic - Hands down the worst year since 2008. Every single early 2013 set is crap. There's a new crane coming up in a few months, but it's just a slightly bigger, rehashed 8421, but with no pneumatics and no new functions.. Good if you don't have 8421, I guess. Superheroes - that line is all about the minifigs. EDIT: I do have to add that the Friends theme does gets serious, dedicated attention from Lego. Every wave has good sets. I don't own any, but my niece will probably get the yacht eventually. Edited June 14, 2013 by SheepEater Quote
Scorpiox Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Good question. In terms of figs alone, if you have the Batwing set, you've already got yourself a Joker... But the Funhouse also offers Robin, Harley, and that excellent Riddler fig. On the other hand, the Batmobile set offers the love or hate orange/purple Two-Face, 2 goons, and a generic security guard you'll probably throw a yellow head onto to dump into your City collection. But you already know all this. In terms of figs alone, I'd say Funhouse. In terms of the build, I'd also suggest that the Funhouse was a very well-celebrated set, with lots of playability, adventure, and possibilities for adding onto it. The Batmobile, on the other hand, received its fair share of criticism upon release for the design... But I disagree. It's a very detailed and substantial model, and the bank itself sports a unique color scheme that would be right at home in any City layout. Only the Two-Face jeep is a fail here, and if you lose the crane and flick-fire emplacements it's a bit better. I will suggest that if you ever consider picking up the BatCave, then the Batmobile is a must-- they compliment each other SOOO well. So as far as play goes, I'd say Funhouse... But if you're looking more for display purposes, I'd suggest the iconic Batmobile. I've asked myself, looking back, if I could only have one of the two, which would I pick? And the answer is a definitive FUNHOUSE. But if you can, esp. now that the wave is nearing the end of its shelf life... I'd suggest going for all of the sets. They all look os great displayed all together. Thanks for the help! In response to your suggestions: For me, getting the Batcave is a bit of an impossibility (There's no way I could sneak that amount of money out of the bank account without raising suspicions), so this set would have to be a stand-alone purchase. I'm hoping that the Funhouse would also have lots of potential for expansion, something that Batmobile appears to lack. The figures in both sets are beautiful to my eye (guess that puts me on the 'love' end of Two-Face's spectrum), and are interesting to me as a builder and creator. And a man who likes to 'play' with his LEGO. Since the two sets appeal to me in pretty similar ways, the price will likely be a deciding factor in this. Quote
sok117 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 I've been gone for a while, but I need some lego and I need it soon! I'm trying to decide between the Superman Battle for Smallville or the Rancor Pit (I have the palace). I am a big fan of both superheroes and star wars. Right now, I feel like the palace isn't complete without the rancor pit, plus I could get the jor-el minifigure, but the build and minifigures just don't seem super-satisfying. Then I would probably add on battle of metropolis to get zod and supes. I don't see any point in getting zod armour if he can't have hair on... OR I get the battle of smallville, which looks like a fun build with lots of cool characters, but I won't get jor-el, being as there aren't many small sets out right now that interest me that could put me over the limit. What do you guys recommend? Quote
ant 2 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I cant decide which set to bye!!! Should i bye the Bug-Obliterator-70705 or the Hive-Crawler-70708 for my friend? Quote
Leo604 Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 I'd go with 70705, just cause the ship looks a lot cooler than the bug in 70708. Plus you always wanna give your friends the best for whatever occasion this is. Quote
october Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 (edited) Hi, Haunted house VS Palace cinema? The price tag is the same. I have 3 modulars GE, PS and TH and I really like them. But the HH is so attractive and I dont know when LEGO will stop selling it. What do you think folks? What do you prefer? Edited June 24, 2013 by october Quote

While I don't own either one (at the moment), the Palace Cinema was only released a few months ago, and will almost definitely be around longer than the Haunted House. Quote
october Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Yeow - that's for sure. But which one to choose?? Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 october I don't own Palace Cinema, but I do love the Haunted House. It has a lot of neat little details and not super repetitive, other than the window frames. The end build is worth it though. My daughter loves the playability inside with the hinged opening effect. I would highly recommend it. Quote
Zzz Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Yeow - that's for sure. But which one to choose?? I don't own either, but would go straight for the Hunted House. Every detail feels just right and the set feels special and unique - while the Cinema has some obvious flaws. but I won't get jor-el Here it's already gone, I wanted to hit an order but not anymore without my Maximus minifigure. shaggysanchez Posted June 26, 2013 Posted June 26, 2013 Hi, Haunted house VS Palace cinema? I have both and as much as I really like the Palace Cinema I would choose the Haunted House over it every time. Both sets have really good builds and look great in their own right but for my money the Haunted House is just the better of the two. Quote
october Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 So hh will be! Thanks to all of you! Will post a photo. Should arrive tomorrow. Quote
Tariq j Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Hi all In a few days I'm going to bluewater to the Lego store. I have £150 and I'm still struggling on deciding on what to buy, and I wanted to try an interview here on eurobricks for anyone on EB to answer to see what I should buy - let me show you an example: Set Name: ( the name of the set ) Price: (must be under £150) Pros: (good things) Cons: (bad things) Rating: (your rating out of ten) From there I will choose the sets which I think I will like and buy them hopefully this method will be sucessful and help others in the future. One last thing: for now let's keep amazon, eBay and all other Internet buying sites out of the equation. Thanks Tariq j Quote
Leo604 Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 There's this thread where you could ask basically the same questions: http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=82467 Quote
Tariq j Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Ah thanks Leo crimson I was aware there was another thread it's just I was trying a different method. Quote
bacem Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 firts of all, can you tell what themes you like? that way we can give you more accurate answer. Quote
dvsntt Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 You'll find it when you see it. I don't know what it is, or what it will be, but when you are in a Lego store, among all the Lego sets and themes, you will see the one you want the most. I really like anything with movement, so I seem to have a lot of vehicles, cranes, trains, and rides and things. Quote

Darth Dino Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Hi if i go to Lego Brandstores i get things i only can get there. If there are no sets of interests (or not enough mony for them) i will get PAB cups ;) But 150 republic credits is fine ;) You can try to get a UCS, maybe there are still B-Wings. They X is too expensive. Large actuals non UCS sets are MF and the new gunship. I habe the MF so would go for the Gunship. 150£ are also great for a modular if you like that theme. Modulars are exclusive, the Gunship e,g is available "everywhere" and cheaper. Dino Quote
Tariq j Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Hi Darth Dino the x wing is definately too expensive but the b-wing sounds good. Also ( if my maths is right!) I can purchase the republic gunship and yoda vs dooku set. I'm also quite interested in jeks starfighter which looks quite good. Tariq j Quote
TheLegoDr Posted July 16, 2013 Posted July 16, 2013 Tariq j - I think the other question is what sets do you currently own. I don't need a laundry list, but everyone may end up suggesting sets you already have and then still wouldn't be of any help to you. As for me, I love most Licensed sets and the exclusives, so I agree about getting something that you can only get at the LEGO store. With that said, I bought the Lone Ranger line in April when it became available near me, but only the LEGO store had the sets until very recently (3 months later!) and even then I haven't seen the majority of them around here. So even some "widely" available sets don't become so widely available, if you understand me. I don't know how it works in England though. And since I'm in US, I don't know all of the prices of the sets in your currency, so again, I don't know how much help I could be. However, I would suggest Arkham if you can afford it, only because of the large variety of figures and a neat build. Granted I don't own that one either. It will be towards the top of the list for Christmas though. Otherwise, I would try to get as many smaller sets as you could for that same money to expand your super hero or lotr collection as much as you can. The large sets are great, but sometimes you get some great cheaper sets too. Quote

Leo604 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013 So I'll be going on vacation to DC and Philly first week of August, which means I'll probably make a trip to a Lego Store or a retailer somewhere; I just wanna know whether it's worth spending $30 US on the 70402 Gatehouse Raid or to use that money on something else? Hi it really depends on what themes you like the gatehouse raid looks a good set but of course there are others, if you tell us what themes you like then that would be a good starting point Quote
