VBBN Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 The indy set. It has better figs, and more playability. :) VBBN Quote
Erdbeereis Posted December 11, 2008 Posted December 11, 2008 River Chase 100%. Lots of nice plant pieces, dark green crocs and great minifigs. Quote
Derek Posted December 12, 2008 Posted December 12, 2008 I have both, and they are both great, but I would get the Indy River Chase first. Save the bus for next time. -darthperson Quote
TheBrickDaddy Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 Only if you want the figs and snow speeder really badly. The base seems to be a waste of time, money, and parts. If not, then you should be able to find the figs and snowspeeder on Ebay for less. -`La Empray VBBN I agree, the set is great, but finding it at the right price is tricky. $70 is far too much , so I would recommend buying the speeder, figs and accessories somewhere else, like on Ebay or Bricklink. Should I buy This or this: Go with the Indy set! I have both- Indy has more functions and accessories, just all-around great quality (the pontoon car is a great build). Quote
lidan928 Posted December 13, 2008 Posted December 13, 2008 I think the new republic gunship is a great improvement as far as playability goes and has a great selection of new parts. If you're the type of person who keeps the sets on display, however, I'd recommend The Twilight for variety. I too, am a non-believer in it's crappiness! I have two version RGS both good but new one is better sold out most of place if price close to 120$. the package looks really nice. i have 7680 it is big but if you do not have enough budget do not get it. duplicate figure with 7675 design is kind average.i mean if it is 70$ i think it is fair. 7676 7679 7675 are top three 2008 set i think. Oky Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 Alright, so I went to my local TRU today and they had most of the 09 SW sets - except for the clone BP. Now I want to get one of the large ones, but I can't decide which one. Should I get the Republic shuttle or the AAT? The AAT has this cute CW-style Yoda and a bunch of SBDs with new arms, and I need an AAT to fight my Fighter Tank. The shuttle, on the other hand, is $10 more, but it has a clone pilot and that awesome Mace Windu! I already have SBDs and a Ep.2 style Yoda, so I don't really need those. But I do need a Mace and clone pilot. Also, they have the MagnaGuard starfighter for $35 at that same TRU. I really want those Magnas, but I'm not too impressed with the ship. So, should I get it, or rather wait for the Solar Sailer to come out, which probably has Magnas with printed shoulders (as seen on Legoworld) and a new Dooku fig. I have the old Dooku, but I would prefer having one that fits in with my CW figs. So, what do you say? Quote
Erdbeereis Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 In my opinion, the AAT is a better set, as the design to me looks better. Of course I can't be a great judge of this, considering I don't own either yet! As for the MagnaGuard Starfighter, I would wait for the Solar Sailer, as the MGS is a pretty good set, but it's not anything really special. Although it is at a good price. Quote
Derek Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 What I would do: get the ATT, I've heard that its a much better set, maybe wait to get the shuttle. Skip the Magnaguard fighter, wait for Dooku's ship, which looks like it would be much cheaper. Hope this helps. -darthperson Quote
darkrebellion Posted December 15, 2008 Posted December 15, 2008 (edited) The AAT looks like a great set but the speeder featured somewhat makes it like a little con but the whole set is awesome overall so it looks promising. If you want better the minifigs of the RAS than maybe that a great option too. To be honest both look like good sets so choose any of them . The MGS is a very cool ship but I am not very impressed with the minifigs (I own the set ) so I suggest you to better wait for the Solar Sailer, after all it will come with magnaguards and a great Dooku minifig too . Oky Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Yeah, I think you guys are right about the MGSF. Waiting for a set that is around the same price ($35) and includes improved Magnas and a probably exclusive Dooku fig makes much more sense. I'm still not convinced about the AAT being better than the shuttle, though. The RAS just seems to have much more playability, and while I already have old versions of the figs from the AAT, I really need (and want) Mace Windu and the pilot. So I think I'll rather get that one. Yeah, I think you guys are right about the MGSF. Darth_Legois Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Sooo here's the thing.... Kmart have the Turbo Car Chase for $60 [Down from like $90 or so] And BigW have the CG Chopper for $38 [The cheapest I've seen it] [down from $48 or something] Which should I get? Im kindof leaning towards the CG Chopper, Mainly price and that its been out longer then Agents. But Turbo Car looks awesome! But the $60 price tag... And Agents just came out afew months ago...unlike the CG Chopper. But will the Turbo Car still be around this time next year? Quote

General Magma Posted December 20, 2008 Posted December 20, 2008 Someone, please help me out! I am really confused..next year I have more than $400 to spend on LEGO, and I can choose: The 10188 Death Star Playset, or lots of Clone Wars sets. (Also many battlepacks) I really don't know what to do..what should I do..? Quote

The Death Star is awesome, but if comparing amount of figs and useable parts, the spreading of money on different sets would be best. I have the Death Star myself, but I am a dedicated Star Wars collector (only need the Junkyard, sculptures and some of the minifig collections to be complete) and that's what the DS is. - A collector's item, no more, no less. Go for quantity and diversity of parts would be my advice. Quote

nobrumski Posted December 22, 2008 Posted December 22, 2008 I found myself in the Lego aisle today for the first time in years while Xmas shopping for my niece and nephew. To give you an idea one of the last Lego sets I remember getting was one of the Classic Castle sets, looking on Bricklink it appears to be 6075 back from 1981. As a result now I have an itch to build something. I was hoping Lego had some nice sets aimed at 16+ but that doesn't seem to be the case beyond the collector sets such as the Death Star. I think I would prefer to build a building over a vehicle and I would rather go larger over smaller. At the same time I want to keep at or below $100 since I don't know if the interest will grab me again. The Agents series looked cool but I only saw vehicles. Any suggestions? Also is there a good breakdown somewhere that lists what everyone thinks is a fair price per brick? Some of the sets seemed pretty pricey for the number of bricks. Quote

Nobrumski, welcome to Eurobricks. Perhaps, you could drop an introduction to our hype community in here. Judging from your description above, I have a feeling that you are beginning to emerge out of your Dark Age which lasted for more than just a decade. There are many sets which offered challenging and exciting building challenge. First of all, ask yourself, what themes are you really interested in? In Eurobricks, we have in-depth reviews which could offer great insights where our members have taken their precious time to present their finest reviews and aid others in their shopping decisions. There are many other exclusive sets, ranging from 10193 Medieval Market Villiage, 10189 Taj Mahal, 7676 Republic Gunship, and etc. I think I would prefer to build a building over a vehicle and I would rather go larger over smaller. At the same time I want to keep at or below $100 since I don't know if the interest will grab me again. The Agents series looked cool but I only saw vehicles. Any suggestions? At this moment, Agents have released 8 offical sets which range from vehicles to volcano base. On my personal recommendation, I have only 2 Agent sets which are 8630 Gold Hunt and 8631 Jetpack Pursit. My favourite set is defintely the 8630 due to its high playability and the design of the fighter jet. Well, it's up to you to determine what are you really looking for in a LEGO set. This is an image of 8630. Also is there a good breakdown somewhere that lists what everyone thinks is a fair price per brick? Some of the sets seemed pretty pricey for the number of bricks. Brickset and Peeron will be a good start for LEGO resources as they provide a very comprehensive LEGO database. Quote

A lot of the sets aimed at older fans don't have any play value, simply cause most grownups don't play with it. So the build itself and how it looks afterwards in your living room counts, like the Star Wars UCS sets (Death Star, Star Destroyer, X-Wing etc.) or the monuments (Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal etc.). Agents offer the opposite: play value. So ask yourself, where you want to go with your first new set. If your feeling says "go for a building" I would highly recommend both Medieval Village (for a castle guy you were in the past) or the Green Grocer (1st choice in my opinion). If you like them as something to play with you can easily continue from there with more figures and small sets, both castle and city are known as cheaper sets than all the licences eg. If you liked building, then change them, if you like looking at them in your living room, you cannot go wrong with them as well. And if you really dislike them, give them to your niece and nephew! Commander_Blitz Posted January 12, 2009 Posted January 12, 2009 I recently discovered Bricklink, and instantly decided I needed something from the times when I bopught no lego at all. At the moment I am torn between: Adventurers Any combination of Island Racer/Dino Explorer/Research Glider/Island Hopper T-Rex Transport Rock Raiders Granite Grinder+Loader Dozer/Chrome Crusher Tunnel Transport Arctic Mobile Outpost+Arctic Expedition In case you're wondering, I know about these themes due to my re-discovery of my old Rock Raiders, Island 2 and Racers 2 games. Some of the sets seemed pretty pricey for the number of bricks. lots of sets tailored to the adult fans. lots of sets around the $100 mark for those on a budget. buildings? there's the green grocer and the cafe corner for $150. a little pricy but definitely worth the money. if you don't mind vehicles, you can try the UCS Ferrari F1 8157 for $90. if you like something a little more flashy, you can get the UCS batmobile for a song. not sure if they are available from retailers - you can try tuesday morning or big lot. or failing that, just order from bricklink. they are cheap now. or if you're a fan of star wars, you can also get general grevious UCS for like $45. good parts to price ratio. you'll be able to showcase after you built the set too! all the above are good as "one off" sets. build them, showcase them, and sell them if you don't like it. or break them down and use them as parts if it becomes a hobby for you. Commander_Blitz Posted January 13, 2009 Posted January 13, 2009 Sorry about his, but I've just been told that I can only have the sets for my birthday, I have a £40 limit, and I'm only allowed something from the adventurers dino island theme. Probably because my dad is a huge dino island fan but sold all his sets for a guitar. Anyway, here's the list of sets I'm considering: Island Racer - this one is definite, it's part of the deal Research Glider Dino Explorer Island Hopper T-Rex Transport Can anyone recommend a good combination of sets? Bearing in mind that the money I get for my birthday will go towards a dino research compound. Quote
