Leo604 Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into one of either Saesee Tiin, Wargs, or Barrel Escape this weekend if they have them out at Walmart. You guys actually pay full price for Lego? You don't? Quote
Vindicare Posted November 30, 2012 Posted November 30, 2012 I'd recommend the Mirkwood Forest set. You get two exclusive Elves and it is at the $30 price point. I agree the Wargs set would be nice, but I believe it is sitting at $50, so a bit out of your budget. Another option is the Barrel Escape. You get another 2 elves and 1 dwarf and 1 hobbit with some neat weapons. The problem with that set is it is TRU exclusive, so unless you can get it a little cheaper, might be out of your budget. I think it is sitting at $45 instead of $40, so not a terrible mark-up. As far as Star Wars instead, do you have all of the existing sets? I'd recommend the Anakin's Jedi Interceptor. A nice Nute Gunray figure, a newer Anakin and Obi-Wan. I haven't built the ship itself, but I liked the figures a lot. Ooh yes, 9494 Anakins Jedi Interceptor! Forgot about that. That's a good set too, the interceptor is a great little ship, fun to swoosh. Its a Wal-Mart exclusive too I think. Quote
Masked Builder Posted December 1, 2012 Posted December 1, 2012 So judging by my budget for the next couple months or so I should have enough for the TDK Rises set and maybe a 30-40 one this month. Any have recommendations, preferably in Star Wars or one of The Hobbit sets? Get Barrel Escape, it's much larger than in the pictures and it comes with five excellent minifigures. Quote
Chri5kng Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into one of either Saesee Tiin, Wargs, or Barrel Escape this weekend if they have them out at Walmart. You don't? Thanks for the suggestions guys, I'll look into one of either Saesee Tiin, Wargs, or Barrel Escape this weekend if they have them out at Walmart. You don't? Nope I don't, I never pay full price for any Lego. I got the Lego forest police station for $45 retail at $80 US. I got the ambulance for $10 retail at $20. I bought Helm Deep for $70 retail at $130 USD. I bought Anakin pod racers retail at $90 and I got it for $30. I miss out on the Fire Temple retail at $120 for $70 and the Police Station retail at $100 for $57. Even at these sale price, I still find them to be very expensive. Quote
Canada_7 Posted December 2, 2012 Posted December 2, 2012 So both the 3677 Red Cargo Train and the 7939 Cargo Train are quite pricy in Canada but there's a small chance I may buy either at 30% off the Canadian retail price...if so which of the two should I get? Quote
Leo604 Posted December 4, 2012 Posted December 4, 2012 Prices and my aforementioned budget aside, which of these sets would be better - Attack of the Wargs or Attack on Weathertop? Quote

I'd would go with 7939. Overall I like this train more. The stuff that comes with it outweighs what comes with 3677. Prices and my aforementioned budget aside, which of these sets would be better - Attack of the Wargs or Attack on Weathertop? This would be a 'buy the older one first' but seeing as their release was only a few months apart, I wouldn't worry about that too much. Personally, I think 79002 is the cooler one be use of the new Wargs. Quote
Echo Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The TRU near me still has 7066 Earth Defense HQ for $90. Is it worth the purchase? Quote
meyerc13 Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Earth Defense HQ is a great set. I hesitated on the set when it was at MSRP. Then I was lucky enough to get it for 50% off after the holidays last year. I must say that now that I have it, I think it was worth the original price. It's a ton of fun and very playable. Obviously if you can find it on sale that's a better deal, but if not it's worth the $90. If that's the regular price, maybe you can stack it with one of the TRU 20% off a regular priced item coupons? They've also had some sales for $25 off $100 of LEGO, so that might be a way to get it down a bit as well. However, it's definitely a great set and lots of fun. I've thought about buying a second, not for the parts but because I wish I had two copies of it. I can't think of any other LEGO set that falls into that category.. I've bought multiples, but only for the parts. But this set is awesome enough that I want two. Quote
Faefrost Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 The TRU near me still has 7066 Earth Defense HQ for $90. Is it worth the purchase? While always better to get a set at discount, that is one of the best sets Lego has made. If possible it should not be missed. It's worth $90. (Although cheaper is always better.) Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 7, 2012 Posted December 7, 2012 Leo Crimson - I'd say Attack of the Wargs might be a better set overall. The new horses are neat, but they pale in comparison to having brand new molds for other animals you could use. Plus you get 2 orcs instead of ringwraiths. Ringwraiths are cool, but there is a limit to them, but you can have as many orcs as you want! I also think Weathertop was a bit overpriced unless you can find a deal. I'm noticing Weathertop is having more sales associated with it (and it was left out of the Holiday catalog from S@H that I received), so maybe it wasn't selling that well. Quote
The Joker1 Posted December 9, 2012 Posted December 9, 2012 Ok guys, Here's a tricky one I have been debateing with myself for months. The New arkham asylum Or Rancor pit + Daily bugle + TMNT fish face chase. I am mainly a superheroes fan and my favorite building is arkham, But I have jabbas palace and also like a bit of veriaty. (also if I get arkham i will have £10 worth of VIP points to put towards the fishface set) Quote
TheRedGuy Posted December 10, 2012 Posted December 10, 2012 You guys actually pay full price for Lego? Yes we do, buying them only in sales are just cheap. (No puns intended) Anyways, I have 200 bucks in my hands and I want some Galaxy Squad mainly for the insects. By the way, my only choice right now is TRU so I prefer advice based on TRU prices. (I'm slightly considering some Hobbit sets, but nothing big) Quote

(also if I get arkham i will have £10 worth of VIP points to put towards the fishface set) I would go with Arkham. You mentioned it's your favorite and I always try to acquire my favorite, most "needed" sets first just in case something happens in the future to prevent me from getting them later. Then after those are done I go after all the sets that I just "want". Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 TheJoker1 - I'd get Arkham also. Not only is it your favorite and you are mainly a Super Heroes person (your name alone suggests that), but if you buy it then you get VIP points, which would be put towards something else. If you buy the others, it'll take longer to accumulate those VIP points. Something to consider. TheRedGuy - I don't know much about Galaxy Squad or TRU's mark up on them, but they did seem quite expensive in my local TRU, but I'm not sure if that is their normal mark up or if the sets really are going to be that much more expensive. They only had 3 sets though, so I'm not sure what yours has. As far as Hobbit (if you go that way), I would recommend the TRU exclusive Barrel Escape. It isn't a terrible mark up (only $5) and it is the exclusive of the wave. I had it in my hands, but put it back because I'm stingy enough to wait and save the $5 from S@H. Quote
The Joker1 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Hmm, Thanks to both of you guys. Arkham it is then. Im looking foward to this one. (Also my nephew said he thinks i should get arkham so i can have "Mr Scarecrow") . Quote
GandalftheAWESOME Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Hey guys, first post here so I hope that it is OK. I was wondering weather I should buy the Mirkwood spiders set alongside Attack of the wargs or Barrel escape? Thanks for the help in advance! Quote

Fives Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 When it comes to this set, it really depends on why you're buying it. If you're buying it for the figures, then the ones that are the best are Kolar, Anakin, Palpatine and Tiin. Windu's and Fisto are a little lackluster, but the other figs make up for that. If you are buying for the parts, there is a healthy selection of dark red, with a few unique pieces like the large clear windows. And if you're looking for playability, it's pretty good. There are a bunch of features that are fun and work well. Plus, the door and landing pad can be dislocated from the main office that can make interesting set ups depending on how you connect it together. I bought it and am really satisfied with it. The figs were the main draw for me, and they don't disappoint. Quote
DeltaRecon226 Posted December 12, 2012 Posted December 12, 2012 Yes, go buy it. I just got it the other day, and I think that the main set is really cool for re-enacting the films. The star fighter is so-so, but the figures more than pick up the slack. Quote
pedro Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 +1 to buying it. Play-sets are on the rarer side and this one is a keeper. Nice diorama with a great selection of new, non-CW figures and parts. The ship is okay but forms the basis for a better MOC. I bought mine full price and haven't regretted it. Go buy it... now! Quote
HawkLord Posted December 13, 2012 Posted December 13, 2012 It's a fantastic set. As a fan of ROTS and that scene in particular, I had to get it when it first hit. I have no regrets - it's solid. Quote
