Faefrost Posted December 2, 2013 Posted December 2, 2013 It did, thanks Freddy Bricker! I was under the delusion that 'Flagship' sets like OH would stick around a bit longer, alackaday. Any storage ideas? I've seen all sorts of 'wonder products'. I think for storage the best is simple unbranded plastic bins like you can find at Target or Walmart. This way you can easily add more as needed. You can dedicate a small to mid sized one to a set. Or breack them down by color, size etc, and further store them in a larger bin. With a younger child I would suggest getting the ones with the lids that lock. I use a lot of these. http://www.target.com/p/sterilite-clipbox-set-of-6-green-small/-/A-13487672#prodSlot=medium_1_12 Quote
DrJB Posted December 3, 2013 Posted December 3, 2013 I got a set of clear boxes from Costco. They're shoe-sized and incidentally, the artwork on the box shows Lego-like bricks. They're a fairly good deal... $15 for 14. Quote
Risgrynsgrot Posted December 5, 2013 Posted December 5, 2013 I'm missing a bigger Galaxy Squad set.. What's the coolest one? Right now I'm moving towards the Hive Crawler, it looks like an awesome build. Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 My 9-yo son has expressed interest in LEGO City. He has plenty of SW sets and has a few Castle sets. What I'm looking for is a good set to start with that has good building techniques. He's done Levels 1-3 of the MBA and is getting Level 4 for Christmas. Any input will be appreciated. I'm a little nervous on his decision to branch out. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Marvel Spider-Cycle Chase, Hobbit Dol Guldor Ambush, or Hobbit Mirkwood Elf Army? Quote
Freddy Bricker Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Jabba's Palace or Epic Dragon Battle? I really want both but don't think I can afford both for christmas. Quote
Sir_Basil_Ashton Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Jabba's Palace or Epic Dragon Battle? I really want both but don't think I can afford both for christmas. Both set were released in Summer 2012 so both are due to retire soon. Being a Star Wars fan my opinion is biased and I would go with Jabba's Palace. If you're a Ninjago fan, go with Epic Dragon Battle. Quote
ElCrab Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 I'm new here, and I've been picking up several small sets a week through work, often ones I've already gotten. Mainly to accumulate elements on a bulk scale, mostly browns/blacks/tans/grays, plus any interesting elements. I have a lot of ideas for things I want to build and having lurked here for some time, I realized I needed a lot more pieces in certain styles and colors if I am to finally start making MOCs like I really want to build. It's funny, because I remember as a kid (I'm 35 and recently out of the Dark Ages), I lamented the fact that I lacked large elements to build castles. Now it's the other way around! Just ordered the Sopwith Camel to give to my dad for Christmas (he loves airplane models, but doesn't have anything Lego) and couldn't resist ordering the Mirkwood Elf Army set for myself at the same time. Plus I picked up a couple of the TMNT Kraang bagged sets at Target tonight, because why not?! Plus I have the 2012 & 2013 Star Wars advent calendars to open each day, plus the 2013 City calendar. And a few weeks ago I scored the Lego Architecture Studio, BNIB, on Craigslist for 80 bucks. I asked for Lego for Christmas, and specifically asked the fiancée to get me sets like Helm's Deep or the Lone Ranger Mine, etc. She knows I want the Haunted House and the Vampyre Castle as well, and this year she's hinted that I'm going to get "all the presents", as she puts it. So I'm really hoping she just goes nuts. Quote
Lancethecat Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Republic Gunship vs. Jabba's Sail Barge: They were both released in the same wave at the same price ($130), so which one is the better deal? Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Gunship. Jabbas Barge you would be better off getting the old one, new one looks like a giant turd with wings. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Tolkien - I'd recommend mirkwood elf army. It is a little more expensive, but you get more figures and cooler ones at that. Plus, I love elf ears. Freddy Bricker - I'd go with Jabba's Palace. But I'm not into Ninjago. The end build is pretty neat for a display piece, but at the same time I probably won't keep it together for too long. Lancethecat - I think the Gunship is a better deal -- more figures, more pieces, same price. The Sail Barge is actually pretty decent, but not at msrp. I found mine at tru for 40% off, so it was worth it at that price. At full retail, I'd prefer the gunship. Quote
Canada_7 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Constitution Train Chase for 50% off at $65 Canadian....worth it? Set was never on my radar nor was I looking at getting the Lone Ranger sets originally, nor did I watch the movie. But 50% off...tempting....should I? Quote
meyerc13 Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Definitely. The track and train parts alone are probably worth almost that, never mind the minifigs and the rest of the bricks. For me, I bought it because it is a nice looking steam engine, it had extra track for me to add to my growing railroad, and I wanted an officer for my Lone Ranger Cavalry. I bought it for full price, so at half off it is definitely worth it even if you aren't interested in the Lone Ranger theme. Quote
ShaydDeGrai Posted December 17, 2013 Posted December 17, 2013 Definitely. The track and train parts alone are probably worth almost that, never mind the minifigs and the rest of the bricks. For me, I bought it because it is a nice looking steam engine, it had extra track for me to add to my growing railroad, (snip…) I have to second this. I really didn't care about the Lone Ranger aspects of the set at all, I just like trains and this kit offers a nice little steam engine, track and (if you're not into the Lone Ranger) plenty of "spare parts" and extra minifirgures. The rolling stock didn't do that much for me, but that's the beauty of trains, decouple the cars you don't want, build and hook up the ones you do. At 50% off, if you like trains, it's hard to go wrong here. Quote
wertykelpie Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 hi there guys:D im kinda new on this forum and im a new lego enthusiast because of lotr sets, sincerely i think they should did them when i was a child and when i saw them on toy are us i couldnt resist them now as an adult, i was afraid what is the purpose of buying them if im not a child but i bought them anyway i hope i dont regret doing it:S they are kinda expensive, im trying doing the collection of the ones i like because i dont have enough money to buy all of them, i already have the battle of helms deep and mines of moria and shelobs attack:D i would like to hear an opinion from you:D which sets should i buy for now:D option 1: lotr council of elrond and black gate together option 2: uruk hai army, council of elrond and wizard battle together which choice is the better since they become at the same price thank you and kind regards from Portugal and a happy new year !! Quote
Blakstone Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Wertykelpie, a lot of it depends on your focus. But the Uruk Hai Army came out two years ago in the very first wave. I would recommend that one as it will be the first of these sets to become unavailable. Quote
BlueberryWaffles Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Wrong thread. There's one in General. Oh, and option 2, totally. Quote
Deathleech Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Yes, option two for sure. You already have Helm's Deep so Uruk-hai Army compliments it nicely. And like Blakstone points out, it's been out for a long time now and is retired so it's going to become harder and harder to find new at a decent price. Quote
ZCerberus Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Wrong thread. There's one in General. Yes, this is probably better suited in the "Which set should I buy?" thread. I also take some issue with the title. Please use proper punctuation and make the title descriptive, but do not make it conversational as you have done here. I'm moving it with a link to the general discussion forum. It could be merged with the general thread there, but so you can still find the topic, I am only moving it for now. Thank you. Quote
ultron32 Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Agreed with what everyone else said. then pick up Black Gate whenever you get the chance. Quote
Faefrost Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 This might not be a bad fit for the "Which set should I buy?" thread. As for the question. If you can find it get the Uruk Hai Army set now. It's retiring and may be gone from store shelves any day now. What stock the stores have is all they will ever get. And it is a set that will jump in price on the aftermarket. Quote
BrickG Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 Where the heck can you even find an uruk hai army these days? Been sold outforever online and everywhere I'm at (except if it's like double the price). Quote
Rick Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 I'm moving it with a link to the general discussion forum. It could be merged with the general thread there, but so you can still find the topic, I am only moving it for now. Merged. Quote
wertykelpie Posted January 3, 2014 Posted January 3, 2014 thank you guys:D im decided now:D im going for option 2 then:D if you want to buy lego try bricklink its in there that i found uruk hai army:D this site is kinda complex at the begining but its easy to get used and you can buy retired sets at fair prices, and it finds sellers for the specific set all across the world its awesome:D one more question is black gate worth the money? thank you and best regards Quote
Lancethecat Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 Right now I'm looking for a set in the $20-$30 range. I've heard good things about the Lone Ranger Stagecoach Escape and LEGO Movie Ice Cream Machine, but are there any others that deliver good value? Any theme is fine with me, as long as it isn't Chima, TMNT, or Friends. P.S. Right now I have the Unexpected Gathering and Goblin King Battle, so I might buy a LotR or Hobbit set to expand my collection. Quote
