SodorBricks Posted September 18, 2016 Posted September 18, 2016 (edited) Now this is the turning point once this decision has been made there is no turning back: Do I for this Christmas buy a lot of Nexo knight sets and begin on my journey to complete my fist theme Or this Christmas do I buy Some of the Spyrius, import some Unitron sets and pick up the last power miner sets/spare parts needed to complete that theme. On a side note I could probably convert the monorail to any need Reason I ask so early is because my family buys the sets early so we can get more for our money Edited September 20, 2016 by SodorBricks Quote
BMTHbuilder Posted October 23, 2016 Posted October 23, 2016 Hi everyone, I'm finding myself really drawn to Jestro's Volcano Liar. . I have no Nexo knights. . my previous builds have been a summer scene (beach huts, light house, beach house) Halloween scene (Scooby Doo, a bit of Monster Fighters) and a Christmas scene. Or I'm interested in Fairground Mixer . . Which I guess is more my thing. Should I go against the grain for me and go with Jestro?! Quote

However, if you're not into Nexo Knights, then getting it may not be urgent. It's a $120 set with normal retail availability, and similar-sized Ninjago and Legends of Chima sets in the past have often ended up considerably marked down if you wait long enough. Quote

YellowCorvette Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Well, it's quit a long time for since I participate in the discussion. Anyway, I find myself very interested with a couple of sets from themes I barely interested in. 70327 The King's Mech 70592 Salvage M.E.C 31050 Corner Deli All of these sets looks very good, but I can't really decide which is the best among the bunch for my holiday gift. Which set is the best among the bunch? Quote

The Architect Posted November 6, 2016 Posted November 6, 2016 I like the Corner Deli personally. Quote
AusMinifig Posted November 17, 2016 Posted November 17, 2016 Hello All, I've collected most of the modular sets which I love, but I went thru a few years of not buying any so now I'm trying to catch up. I'm missing the palace cinema and 10224 town hall. Palace cinema is no problem I can still purchase now. My question is it worth investing in the town hall set? Price is pretty much double now on eBay. Anyone's opinion would be appreciated thanks :) Quote
TheLegoDr Posted December 20, 2016 Posted December 20, 2016 This seems like one of the most relevant threads to necromance. I was given some money/gift cards for Christmas and I am torn. Approximately 25$ at Barnes and Noble and 200$ at Amazon. I can always use a little cash to fill in the rest, but obviously would prefer to avoid as much as I can. The dilemma. How badly do I want some certain sets? I have looked at numerous pictures, reviews, videos. I'm torn. Main possibilities, Brick Bank (Yes, I have the full line so I will get it eventually). Ferrari F40 (I have all of the other advanced creator cars). Beatles submarine (I don't care about IDEAS or the Beatles, per se. But I do like having new prints and figures and it is cheaper). So question, do I pick up the Brick Bank and Submarine on Amazon and pay a little overage. Do I even bother with the Submarine since I am not a Beatles fan? Do I get it for cheaper at B&N since the gift card would cut it in half (almost)? Has anyone built any of these? Thoughts? Thanks!!! Quote
BubbaFit45531 Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 31039 Creator Blue Power Jet... extremely beautiful. Quote

I would skip the Beatles set entirely since you don't care too much about it. Maybe see if the parts you want are available at B&P or Bricklink. Sounds like you really want the car and the modular! wgemini Posted December 31, 2016 Posted December 31, 2016 (edited) Any thoughts on 60130 Prison Island? I kind of like it being different from a normal police station (as well as the balloon), but it seems to be smaller than the other station sets with a single 16x16 plate. As a prison rather than a police station, it doesn't have as much in the way of offices as most police station sets. But it has a lot of play value with all the different ways to escape, and it's nicely furnished for a prison, with beds, a toilet, etc. The overall footprint, not counting the dock, is about 600 studs in area. That's around the same size or bigger than the footprints of the Forest Police Station and Swamp Police Station, but it's also considerably heavier than either of those two sets and has a much higher piece count. By comparison, it's much smaller than any of the "normal" police stations from LEGO City. But as a $90 set, it also has a $10 to $14 lower price than most of those after adjusting for inflation. All in all, if you like police sets, I say go for it! Especially if you see it marked down. Quote

It's useful, not just for City. It also mixes and blends well with the Super Hero themes. Populate it out with Super villains. It makes a nice Raft or Bellereve or similar. Quote
VaderFan2187 Posted February 12, 2017 Posted February 12, 2017 The Riddler Riddle Racer or The Penguin Artic Roller? I want a set which has the right mix between good minifigs and good build. Thanks in advance, I'm really undecided about this! Quote

I know the Artic Roller is a bit of a better car build but I really liked the Riddle Racer itself. Quote
VaderFan2187 Posted February 17, 2017 Posted February 17, 2017 Thanks @Captain Britain, but I just discovered that Detroit Steel Strikes is $30 (aka $60 in my region). I thought it was $40 at least. At that price it commands amazing value, and thus I may get that instead. Though I do like the LEGO Batman Movie sets… Cheers VaderFan2187 Quote
azog Posted February 20, 2017 Posted February 20, 2017 I have been wanting to buy one big set just as more of a treat. I'm not sure which one is the best choice though. I am currently looking at three different sets which are 4195 Queen Ann's Revenge from the Pirates of the Caribbean, 76023 The Batman UCS Tumbler, or 10237 The Tower of Orthanc. These all sell for around the same price range except the Tumbler and Orthanc sell for new and sealed as the Queen Ann's Revenge sells for used in good condition. I would love to hear different opinions on all three of the sets. Thank you! Quote

I would love to hear different opinions on all three of the sets. Thank you! The only one I have of the three is the Tumbler, but I think it's a fantastic display piece. It looks great and really does a stellar job of capturing the complicated design of the Tumbler from the films. With that said, I think that this one is quite a bit different than your other two options in the sense that there really isn't much in the way of playability. While the other sets are clearly minifigure scale and are meant to interact with them, the figures in this set simply stay on the display stand. You can move the wings of the Tumbler around a little, access the interior, and roll it around. You can also lift the "rocket pods" however I have found that they don't like to stay up very well with time and i'm working on building a stronger method to hold them up. I did prepare of a review of this set a while ago, be sure to take a look at that when considering your options- Rufus did an outstanding review of the Tower of Orthanc, though it appears our review of Queen Ann's Revenge is suffering some photo issues. wgemini Posted March 10, 2017 Posted March 10, 2017 Is Lego Crazy Action Contraptions from Klutz a good set to play with my kid (3)? Is it worth it to get two sets? Right now, my local store have a special buy one get one free sale. I was thinking about the simple machine set, but two of this set seem to have similar pieces, but much cheaper. Quote

I have it. Lots of good fun, but quite a few Technic bits, so depending on his LEGO skill level you may have to build the models. If you get two I guess you could race some of the vehicles included Quote
Vindicare Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 Not exactly a what to buy...but a should I buy? I'm kinda torn, I want that new cube calendar & I have the $20 in VIP money. I usually save that to help with Modulars, but I really like that darn calendar... Quote

Plus it's not a LEGO-only thing, you can use it as a calendar at home or in your office or something like that. Quote

The build is full of cool structural techniques and interior details, and the fig selection is great. That said, i'm personally a much bigger LotR fan than Batman or PotC. Quote
