Canada_7 Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 (edited) I want to get one of the modular houses that are still available (Fire Brigade, Green Grocer, Grand Emporium). Fire Brigade seems to be third on my list while I`m stuck between Green Grocer and Grand Emporium. I`m not sure which of those two I should get...Any pointers? As much as I want to collect all the modular buildings, I only have enough to spare to buy one at the moment. Edited September 3, 2010 by Canada_7 Quote
prateek Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 (edited) Green Grocer now, Grand Emporium later. GG is almost gone from retail, but GE will be around for a couple more years. BTW, welcome to EB Edited September 3, 2010 by prateek Quote
squiz Posted September 3, 2010 Posted September 3, 2010 Yeah go with the green grocer. As prateek says its being discontinued soon so now is the time to get one! you should have another year left for the fire station and 2 years for the EMporium. Plus the green grocer is cheaper than the grand emporium. I recently picked up the green grocer, its an amazing set. You wont be dissapointed! Quote

You wont be dissapointed! It's actually more expensive. In Canada (where I'm assuming he's from) GG is $219.99 and GE is $199.99 Quote
Canada_7 Posted September 4, 2010 Posted September 4, 2010 It's actually more expensive. In Canada (where I'm assuming he's from) GG is $219.99 and GE is $199.99 Indeed. For some reason the GG is $219.99 while GE and FB are $199.99 each. But I agree with both of your statements about getting Green Grocer first since it's going out of production sooner. Quote
Scop Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 Yesterday I found a local store where they have about 10 boxes of minifigures series 2 and still 5 boxes full of Minifigures 1. The thing is, I already own 12 Spartans standing on my shelf and 23 sealed Spartans (all from other stores). Do you think I should go for more spartans because the price will go sky high once Series 2 has ended? Or would you complete both series with the figures you do not own at the moment? And what about buying more Zombies? Their average bricklink-price is not that bad. :) Quote
prateek Posted September 7, 2010 Posted September 7, 2010 I'd get the Spartans. You are lucky to even find any Spartans Quote
The_Customizer Posted September 9, 2010 Posted September 9, 2010 I want to get a set with quite a few minifigs, plants, and tiles, but for a reasonable price(under $30 USD) What do you guys recommend? Quote

legowill1 Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Hi all! I created this topic because of a difficulty we all have....Picking out lego sets! Here we can talk about what we should get and what we should leave for another day. I have some money and I wanted to spend it on minifigures series 2. But then I saw that TRU were having a sale on their exclusive sets! Now I want the TRU truck! What else do you think I should get? Remember this topic isn't just for me, it's for everyone. Quote
Darth Jar Jar Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 Umm there is already a topic about this in the general discussion Heres the link http://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=19857 Quote
Brickthing Posted September 10, 2010 Posted September 10, 2010 I'll just merge this topic into the existing topic where this belongs, and your question can be answered there (or here, as of this post ). Quote

Get the TRU Truck. You can get the figs later, and since they are so cheap compared to the truck, you'll recuperate the money quicker. Now for my own problems. Should I get one Hoth BP, or wait for the 2011 ones so I can get both in the same year. The situation with my family is that I can only get one set per year, unless I get a gift I don't want. Quote
ziljin Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 After losing interest in Lego after I bought all 5 Prince of Persia Sets, I am back into Lego again and bought most of the Lego Kingdoms sets. Going to have 1 of each (except target practice and siege attack). I am easily overtaken by the collector mentality, a flaw of my character perhaps. Well Prince of Persia is my first collection lol, so I am super late to the Lego collection building party. Now the other themes so far I am not too interested in. Hero Factory is interesting though, and I never got the chance to get into Bionicles. And 1 of each Hero Factory set would also cost around 250 USD. I love robots, but I also love castle! So I am sort of torn between dropping a couple hundred on more Kingdoms sets to get more minifigs/bricks to make more structures. (like second Prison Rescue to complete the other side of the set as shown in some MOC's posted on this forum), or spending the money on something new like Hero Factory. Although I am a bit spoiled, so really I could do both maybe. Quote
prateek Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 If you can do both, and want to, go ahead, but I would just get the Kingdoms sets. Quote
Commander Laquiet Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 I am currently on the watch for a set to buy. I set some criteria for this set: -It must have a large number of useful, sometimes exotic bricks -It must have some great minifigures -It must have an abundance of small details, i.e maps, goblets, plants, food, weapons... -I want the set to fit into a number of time periods, particularly medieval and Napoleonic times -It should be easily MOC/MOD-able Obviously the first set that sprang to mind was the Medieval Market Village, and this is proven to be good in all the areas my criteria stated. However I also liked the look of the new Hogwarts Castle in the Harry Potter line, and the Battle of Alamut from the Prince of Persia line looked interesting. The question is, which of these sets, or any others that spring to mind, should I be thinking most seriously about? Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Quote
prateek Posted September 14, 2010 Posted September 14, 2010 Since you want food and goblets and maps etc. you should get MMV. I like BoA, but MMV is good for your context. Quote

Heck, I will buy a full box of minifigures 1 from you if you can get them. I missed out on the first series. Quote
Clone OPatra Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 The question is, which of these sets, or any others that spring to mind, should I be thinking most seriously about? Comments and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Based on all of your criteria, MMV is certainly the set to get. It has plenty of food included, as well as other great little details like 'paintings' of minifigures, cool animals, and a ton of pieces for the price. The Hogwarts Castle also has lots of little bits and details, but that isn't out yet, and the color-scheme of Hogwarts is monotonous, so you have to consider if you want a lot of tan. Alamut is an extremely pretty set, but it does not have so many accessories other than weapons, and it is in a Persian style, which doesn't seem to fit with the medieval style that you are looking for. I would say that Alamut has the best figures of the bunch, with all of the figures having detailed and extraordinary prints. Still, I think MMV fits what you're looking for most. Quote
ThatGuyWithTheBricks Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 I say get the Battle of Alamut. It is by far one of the best sets ever made and you will never regret it. Quote
Commander Laquiet Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 (edited) Thanks for the help! I agree, really MMV is the best choice. By the way, does anyone have an idea of when it will be discontinued? It's been around for a fair while now. (Sorry if this is off topic, just wondering). ziljin Posted September 15, 2010 Posted September 15, 2010 If you can do both, and want to, go ahead, but I would just get the Kingdoms sets. I think you are right. The Kingdoms sets are compatible with all the other sets I already have. but the Hero factory is not. Just a bunch of robots. I already have plenty of gundam model kits so that should satisfy my robot toy demand. I will probably just get Kingdoms kits until they get discontinued lol. Then I should have plenty of bricks for building castles, and plenty of minifigs for an army. Quote

Anyway, enjoy the green grocer Canada_7 ! Sure you wont be dissapointed. You will have to add the ge soon after Ended up getting the Green Grocer from the Canadian Toysrus website. Here in Canada, Toysrus is having a 20% off Atlantis, Creator, Prince of Persia, Kingdom themed sets on both the site and in-store. On the website, the Modular Houses are under creator and thus 20% off $219.99. Ended up paying a little more than $198 for it (free shipping but like 13% tax where I live). Was REALLY close to pulling the trigger and buying one more set (the Grand Emporium or Fire Brigade) but ended up holding myself back and just bought the one. Good thing I woke up early though...on the day the sale started I was up at 6am and placed an order for the Green Grocer. At about 9am to check back on the website, a select number of sets on sale (in particular the 3 modular houses, plus some other sets) were all out of stock. Either a lot of people bought them or I'm thinking Toysrus purposely changed the stock count quickly soon after the sale began (and then watch the sets magically go back in stock right after this sale ).
