Hello Eurobricks!

I am going to buy a new LEGO set on friday and i am not quite sure what i should get.

I recently bought Grand Emporium which is GREAT. The building and interior is very detailed and really fun to build.

My first though was to buy the Fire Brigade, so i had 2 modular buildings but the fire brigade doesn't seem to be very detailed. And the front seem very doll... (the only nice thing is the flag, really awesome made.)

I was just browsing LEGO's website and saw the new Diagon Alley. I am a huge Harry Potter fan but i don't own any Harry Potter LEGO. Mostly because it is small sets and the old ones aren't very detailed. Diagon Alley on the other hand blew me away when i saw it.

Now i am really not sure what i should buy. I am not really 'playing' with my LEGO sets. I enjoy building them, displaying them, and tearing them apart (then repeating it over and over).

My other 2011 purchases include Tower Bridge (HUGE, new building methods, Tan bricks!), Fallingwater (One of the greatest buildings EVER!, Tan bricks and seem to scale with my Tower Bridge) and Grand Emporium (Very detailed, pretty big, 7 minifigs!).

Hope to get some response from people who already got the sets or just have an opinion!

There is a whole topic for these types of questions right here.

I would get the fire brigade because when you have a street of modulars it is amazing to look at and also the fire brigade is older so it will become discontinued sooner and Diagon alley has just been released

Hi

Just wanting your advice on if I should get 7994 now from Bricklink or wait for the new harbour in the summer?

I will be getting Sail 'n' Fly Marina anyway.

Thanks

Get 7994. You may have to pay more, but it has more pieces and more playability if you like playing with sets.

I'm on an early-budget planning for my wanted sets of the 2011 summer wave. I'm torn between purchasing either the 7965 Millennium Falcon or the PoTC Queen Anne's Revenge.

The SW fan in me says MF, since I haven't had the previous MF releases before, but QAR looks simply stunning IMO, with an amazing selection of new minifigs and this will be my first Pirate set in a looong time. Which is the better set to buy?

Thats really tough, but I'd say go with the Millennium Falcon, as you haven't got any previous renditions, and it really is the most iconic ship in the SW universe. It's definitely a must buy, plus, I think it will be easily modified, and it would look better in your collection of SW vehicles, rather then having a bunch of SW vehicles and a single pirate ship sticking out like a sore thumb. But then again, the Pirate ship looks really good, costs less, and to my knowledge has more pieces, but if it were me, sure I want it now, but it may just end up on my shelf collecting dust. I'd say to wait for some reviews before you make a decision, a second opinion on the set is always nice :classic:

I'm gonna go with Brickdoctor and say get QAR, or the Black Pearl in November. The MF IMO is way inferior to 4504. The exteriors aren't too different, and the interior in the old one is way better. Just make your own version, as BD said.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm actually leaning towards QAR. It will a 'breath of fresh air' among all my previous SW purchases.

I have a small purchase I'm shrewed over; should I grab the new Technic Off-Roader, the Technic Miniature Moblie Crane, or a couple of the new Hero Factory Sets?

I would go for the Crane. It is almost the same price but double the pieces. And the crane is just cooler =)

Which is the better Agents set - the Volcano base or Mobile Command Center? Both look like they have many features and are increasing in value!

I would go with Mobile Command Centre. It just looks so much cooler IMO.

The title and description are pretty much self explanatory.. :classic:

I've been into Technics for a while, especially construction vehicles, so City Construction theme is naturally my favorite, but I do also love any sub-themes which feature six stud wide trucks. The last time I actually bought a minifig scale was during the late 80's during my childhood, they were refered as Legoland.

Here's a recap of my interests:

- Theme : City

- Sub-theme : Construction, Police, Fire, etc

- Preferable vehicles : Any constructions, six wide trucks (or over), semi-trailers, etc.

- Year : always love the newer City sets, preferably 2007-current, also for ease of obtainability reasons)

- Budget : I'd like to keep it under US$100 for this new set.

Any recommendations for my 'first' set? Please explain a little about your suggestions. Yes I know, there's a bunch of review on Brickset, but none states about a good first timer. :classic: Thanks heaps guys!

My favorite sets out right now are:

(no particular order)

8404 Public Transportation $99.99 lots a vehicles

3661 Money Bank Transfer $49.99

7286 Prisoner Transport $19.99 much better than the last

7228 Mobile Police Unit $44.99 better than last

3221 Lego Semi $35.99 such a cool truck I bought 4

7213 $39.99 Off-Road Fire Truck and Boat. Awesome looking truck

3648 Police chase $??? Not available in the states but looks awesome. Check lightningtigers review, price is high in U.K. and down under

7630 Front end loader $12.99 not sure if these are still available except on eBay, etc

7631 Dump truck $19.99 same deal here.

Unfortunately it looks like TLG did away with construction for this year in place of harbor and marina sets. Those are more sets I'd look into buying this year, I know I am :classic:

~OR~

shop around eBay for some good old retired sets. The Crawler Crane, Bull dozer, and Drum roller aren't to expensive... yet. You'll find out quickly whats "hot" (expensive) and what hasn't appreciated in value much.

As always, get what most appeals to you. This is what I came up with that seems to fit your "like" description. Good luck in choosing. Great products out, more coming, no wrong answer :classic:

Now add to that list 7848 TRU truck with toy shop and if you can still find it somewhere 7993 Octan service station.....a must for every town/city.

Brick On !

Definitely the TRU Truck. Got lucky on eBay for those, paid less than TRU's $49.99 price tag. If not there, I saw it on ToysRUs.com That 7993 Station is really neat too but, its scarce on eBay.US. I won one a week or two ago for around $50 + shipping. It had no minifigs or bike. BL built the bike for $4. I looked for it this past week and they didn't have any listings for it. :classic:

If you like construction and semi trucks, the obvious choice is the 7633 Construction Site set. I haven't seen it around in a while, but there might still be sets floating around. You might also be able to get a good deal on 7747 Wind Turbine Transport, it was recently discounted on the LEGO site, and while people either like it or hate it, it would get you a nice semi truck if you can pick it up for a discount.

If you will consider something that isn't a truck and isn't construction, one of the best City sets out in my opinion is the 7641 City Corner. You get two buildings and a nice bus in that set - the perfect set to start a City. Plus, since it is only about US$60, you could add a LEGO Truck for under your price point.

Thanks for the great responses guys :classic: Surprisingly I'd found quite a few of the forementioned rare out of production sets carried by few Indonesian sellers, namely the tower crane, bulldozer, articulated dumptruck, construction site, the wind turbine transporter, and even the XXL mobile crane. All are in sealed boxes. Now it's getting really difficult to make up my mind...coz I want 'em all  No wait, I NEED them all as each set 'compliments' each other. Since I'm also a Technic fan, i'm thinking the crawler crane and the bulldozer for few undeniable reasons: they're HUGE, and contain a considerable amount of Technic parts and..i'm a sucker for caterpillar tracked earthmovers. The other problem is, squeezing the huge delivery package under my wife's nose without raising 'suspicion'.

Maybe I'm blind, maybe I fail at searching, but the old thread seems to be gone. If it IS in fact still around, delete this thread! Otherwise, I figure we can still make use of this topic...Well, at least I can!

------------------------------------------

I have a little bit more to spend on Lego this month than I thought (yay tutoring on the side) and was going to pick up 7939 Cargo Train off of Bricklink. It comes with everything I need to run another train on top of my 7938. It also comes with another IR Remote that I have zero use for, ha. Anyways, I'm wondering if the train people out there think that owning 7938 and 7939 is worth the investment? I think 7939 comes with a lot of track, too - that's a big bonus.

Also...I have Emerald Night and will be ordering Maersk on day one (might be the first set I buy 2 of for holding onto even). I want to be able to power all my trains, but it looks like the only way to be able to power them and run them is to spend ~$75 per train ($50 for the rechargeable battery box, $11 for the motor, $15 for the IR receiver) pre-shipping. Will I be better off just powering 2-3 of them and moving the guts everytime I want to run certain trains? Seems like the best option given the price, but I'm not sure. I do realize I'll need to buy a motor for every train I buy anyways, but the battery box + IR receiver are my biggest concern on investment.

I realize this is primarily train buying related, but I figured it might not hurt to get the topic going right.
