lightningtiger Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 'Trent', go the Emerald Night first, then the other two.....I think any serious AFOL must have the EN in one's collection. If you can get it, the Green Grocer.....one of the finest modular builds ever. Brick On ! Quote
Piranha Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I am thinking of either a Kingdoms Target Practice Polybag or Series 1 Forestman, both are in the same price range on ebay. Quote
Lego Otaku Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 Emerald Night first, it's been out the longest of all 3. Plus it's one of the better train with working wheel link. Imperial Flagship and Grand Emporium will probably remain out for another year. Worry about Grand Emporium only after Fire Brigade has been discontinued. You can wait on the pet shop for last. Quote
Vindicare Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I'm torn between a few items: Grand Emporium Emerald Night Imperial Flagship For reference, I only have one modular building (Fire Brigade) although ideally, I would like to get both GE and Pet Shop in time (but as Pet Shop has only just been released, I'm not thinking about that yet). I do not have any trains or track, but I like the look of Emerald Night and have heard positive reviews about the build. I am a classic Pirate collector (all of my sets are from the 80s/90s), but I was never tempted enough to buy ships - I have nearly all the bases, but not a single ship. So with all that in mind, you can probably see why I'm stuck what to get. Is there any information about set retirement out there? I know all 3 are probably nearing the end of their lifespan, but is one nearer the end than the others? Thanks for any help! While I really like the EN and was in your position when I bought mine, I'm gonna suggest you get the Imperial Flagship, it's just so impressive. If you're going to get all three eventually, then I'd go with EN first, however. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 10, 2011 Posted July 10, 2011 I am thinking of either a Kingdoms Target Practice Polybag or Series 1 Forestman, both are in the same price range on ebay. Among archer minifigs, Forestmen are the best. By far. In my opinion. Quote
MightySlickPancake Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 Hello all. I recently won £20.00 worth of vouchers for shops, Problem is they are shops I dont go to. I found that one of the applicable shops sell some lego. I am not wanting to spend much more than the £20.00 and the only sets that interest me are 7914, 7914 and 2516. The sets are on special half price offer so im not sure which two to get?? Any helps? Thanks, CB Quote
Zeya Posted July 11, 2011 Posted July 11, 2011 I am thinking of either a Kingdoms Target Practice Polybag or Series 1 Forestman, both are in the same price range on ebay. I have both of these. You should get the forestman. The first series of collectible minifigs are only going to become more scarce. The Target Practice polybag will probably be available for a while - there's even a Lego store promotion for this month or the next where they give one for free when you spend a certain amount of money. At any rate, that polybag is cool but it gives you stuff you already probably have. The figure isn't unique and you have like four of five of those types of guys form other Kingdoms sets. And the apples and leaf is cool, but still common stuff. I think the S1 forestman is pretty unique and a better buy. Quote
Follows Closely Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I am thinking of either a Kingdoms Target Practice Polybag or Series 1 Forestman, both are in the same price range on ebay. Target practice has a lot of useful pieces. Quote
Bearded Castle Guy Posted July 12, 2011 Posted July 12, 2011 I am thinking of either a Kingdoms Target Practice Polybag or Series 1 Forestman, both are in the same price range on ebay. The Kingdoms Target Practice seems to be much more widely available and was not a random pack set, I'd go with the Series 1 Forestman. As mentioned by another poster LEGO has the Kingdoms Target Practice as a bonus for purchases over $75 this month and I've seen (and purchased) decent quantities from the assortment pack spot on Target Store's checklanes. Trent Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Thanks for all of the help, guys. I plumped for Emerald Night and Grand Emporium in the end (I almost got sidetracked by Winter Toy Shop too - I should keep off S@H!). Quote
Scorpiox Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Hi my friends! I love the new POTC sets and I'm gonna get the captain's cabin. But anyway, I might be getting some for my birthday and I'm wondering which £20 set to ask for, Isla de Muerta or the Fountain of youth. They both look awesome and have beautiful figs! These are my reasons for both: Isla de Muerta: -Gold bars and coins -Elizibeth -Barbossa -Barbossa skellie -Cool chest and rocks Fountain of youth: -Blackbeard I wub him so much -Barbossa's torso and new bicorne -Waterfall sheet is cool -More skellies are always welcome! So guys, I'd love your opinion and any help is appreciated! P.S. Before you say it, both is not an option! Quote
prateek Posted July 16, 2011 Posted July 16, 2011 Isla de Muerta for sure. I just looks like a better model. Quote
Vindicare Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Isla de Muerta for sure. I just looks like a better model. I'd have to lean towards this as well, overall better set. It is one of(if not the only)set in the line that comes with the shiny gold pieces. Elizabeths hair is rockin', too. Quote
Danpb Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I assume we just add replies to this whenever we need set advice. If that is the case.. I'm at a bit of a crossroads. The latest Millenium Falcon was released and, while I'm not a huge LEGO SW fan (favorite theme is Town/City), I do want this set. I also want Grand Emporium as it'll add to my modular collection. That said, I know the Grand Emporium was released in early 2010 so it has some time left. I worry the Falcon won't be around for long. Getting one or the other, means waiting about 3-4 months for the next. Am I safe to wait for GE if I get the Falcon? Thanks everyone :) Quote

Thanks everyone :) Judging by your post, you're not aware that a new MF has juat come out, so unless you're particular to the MF that you mention, you'll definitely have time to get the MF. GE is a really good set, seeing as you collect Town you won't be let down with it. I'd say you still have a good chunk of time before the GE goes into retirement, the Fire Brigade goes next, right? Then GE... Quote
meyerc13 Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 You should be fine waiting on the Grand Emporium. If the pattern continues, Fire Brigade should be the next modular to disappear, probably near the end of the year. Grand Emporium should stick around well into next year, probably middle to end of next year at the very least. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I assume we just add replies to this whenever we need set advice. If that is the case.. It is. As has been said, neither set should really be going away before the end of this year. Fire Brigade should go before Grand Emporium, and the Falcon was just released, so it's probably going to be around for another couple years. That said, I think the GE will go before the Falcon. Vindicare Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Temple of Atlantis or Hillside House? Ooh, that's a tough one. Amy preference on theme? Collect both? While I don't yet have the hillside house, I think it's a great model(speaking of the main one). But, the downside, although not an attraction to the Creator line, is the minifigure. Temple of Atlantis is a great addition to the Atlantis line, and a good end to the current story(which worries me about the continuation of the line). The crab minifigure is by far the best of theme. Is this a question of which one, period, or which one first? Quote
Danpb Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 Temple of Atlantis or Hillside House? If it were me, I'd go Hillside as it looks like a good parts set Quote
vexorian Posted July 17, 2011 Posted July 17, 2011 I think that it is a safe bet that there will be more creator houses in the future. The temple though is something we won't see for a while. Parts-wise the temple is more interesting if you were looking forward to make Greek constructions (tons of pilars). Poseidon is a very exclusive fig. The piece counts are way too close, which is disappointing for a Creator house (they were supposed to do much better than system sets in this aspect). Knowing how set sales work, Creator sets are more likely to be found 20% off later in the year whilst the temple will get sold sooner, I think. I'd say, unless you have a City layout, get the temple. Brickus Posted July 22, 2011 Posted July 22, 2011 (edited) Is the 10188 Death Star worth getting, I love collecting OT Star Wars, and UCS sets, but is it as great as everyone says. Also there are a few things I really want to buy this year including the 10221 Super Star Destroyer, VW Van, the two exclusive system range Star Wars sets 7877 and 7879, Winter Post Office and series 5 minifies, so is the Death Star also worth getting. Mr. Elijah Timms Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 Okay, looking to exploit the BOGO50 at TRU, and have some decisions to make. I'm looking to spend about $85USD, and can go these routes depending on my want list: I can do the 7189 Village Mill Raid and get the 7052 UFO Abduction for 50%. Abduction is almost a must for this round of buying. I can get the 7188 King's Carriage Ambush and get the 7052 UFO Abduction for 50%, and still have enough to get the POTC 4192 Fountain of Youth and the 7051 Alien Tripod Invader for 50% with just a few more dollars. That's quite a lot of sets and 12 figs total-- but I am going over my own limit. I can get the 4193 POTC London Escape and the 7052 UFO Abduction for 50%, and actually leave $15 in my wallet. Or I could grab the King's Carriage as the 50% set for just $5 more, but then I don't get the UFO. Either way it saves some money for the coming wave of Series 5. Decisions, decisions... any thoughts? Quote
