The Blue Brick Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Yes, I enjoy the Death Star much more than the Shuttle. Definitely get The DS. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 2, 2012 Posted January 2, 2012 Death Star is probably better for play; shuttle is probably better for display. Given that it's a UCS set, I'd say the shuttle would be a lot more complicated than the DS, which is essentially bricks and plates built straight up. If you want to "develop your skills", I'd say go for the shuttle. I don't own either, though. Quote
Muddy Posted January 3, 2012 Posted January 3, 2012 Getting back into LEGO buying- Should I get Death Star (10188) or Imperial Shuttle (10212)? I want a large set like that to develop my skills but just can't decide which is better. I down't own the shuttle but I do have to say the Death Star is fun just to look @, let alone play around with, the ONLY bad thing is you just get the feeling that you need to add more minifigures to it, empty chairs here, empty chairs there... But wait, Buy a few TIEs and you can stock up that sparse Death Star... That and a battle pack or two to bulk up the Storm troopers I also have a Mouse Droid on every floor, two on a few of them... The Advent made Black R2's easy to get too...(I have one on each floor as well...) Throw in a TIE pilot or two on the loading ramp it feels more complete. Now if you go with the shuttle you will just want to Deck it out Endor style which I am shocked Lego hasn't done that. Quote
Canada_7 Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) So I have about $60 worth of VIP points and was thinking of using it to buy either the 10230 Mini Modulars or the 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van. The Mini Modulars set is $100 Canadian while the Volkswagen Van is $130 Canadian. Neither set is available elsewhere currently (ie. Toysrus) so there aren't any additional discounts from possible theme sales, thus the only way to pick them up is through Lego S@H or their brand stores The only discounts available to me would be VIP points. I'm also somewhat considering to use my points on the Pet Shop but a few things put the Pet shop below the other 2 for priority of using my points on that set: All the other modular house sets have appeared on TRU's website at one point (Green Grocer [not anymore], Fire Brigade, and Grand Emporium) and are categorized in the Creator theme. As crappy as TRU's sales are, they HAVE been on sale. Pet Shop isn't currently on TRU's site but if the trend continues, it's likely we'll see it on the TRU site sooner or later, and thus will possibly go on sale whenever they have sales on the Creator theme (but gotta be quick). It is much moree expensive than the 2 previous sets I've mentioned ($200 vs. $130 or $100 depending on which of the two). The Pet Shop just came out last year. Yes I know, same applies to the VW Van and the Mini Modulars just came out but still. Wih the set being so recent, there is plenty of time for point #1 above to happen.. Ceroknight Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 Both are great sets I would like for myself, I would pick up the Mini Modular first because it might be a limited edition set Quote
Vindicare Posted January 4, 2012 Posted January 4, 2012 (edited) Both are great sets I would like for myself, I would pick up the Mini Modular first because it might be a limited edition set I'll echo what Ceroknight said. While they both are neat sets, and are great display models, I personally think the mini modulars are the better set. The VW does have some great details, however. Also, if you base your decision on price. On one hand, the modulars are better because you'd only be spending about $40 of your own money. Whereas, you would be spending about $70 on the VW. prateek Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I'm gonna disagree. While the modulars look nice, I don't think they warrant your $100. I'd rather get the VW bus. Quote
TheBoyWonder Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 T6 Jedi Shuttle or Plo Koons Starfighter and the Droid Tri-Fighter? I am leaning towards the 2 Fighters, but would like to hear your opinion. This is for a younger sibling, who loves Clone Wars and likes Playability over aesthetics. Thanks! Quote
AndyC Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 This is for a younger sibling, who loves Clone Wars and likes Playability over aesthetics. I'd go for the two fighters, the T6 wasn't a particularly great model. The Tri-Fighter is fun to swoosh around and also a pretty fun (if quite complex) build too and you can't really go wrong with a JSF. Quote

Flipz Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 OK, so I want to spend $75 at the Lego store this month to get Kendo Jay free. I already know I'll be purchasing Jay ZX and at least two Series 6 Minifigs. My primary interests are in the 2012 Ninjago stuff (trying to collect the ZX characters and the snake staffs, plus I'm interested in the snake mech and rattlecopter as sets), the Star Wars clone battle pack/planet mini-model sets (I'm a sucker for the planet models, Naboo in particular), and the Friends diner, vet, and house, and possibly more CS6 minifigs (I have a priority list for which ones I need and which ones I just want). What should I buy now, and what should I save for later? Quote
nicoga3000 Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I'm going to add to the stack! I have $20 in VIP credit to use, along with a 10% off any one item in store. I want to buy a set that gets me a nice heap of MOC treats, but I also want a nice set to assemble and display for a few weeks. I was obviously leaning towards modulars (since they offer great pieces for building style MOC's), so I was going to look between Fire Brigade, Pet Shop, and Grand Emp. I don't think the mini-modulars is available yet (but I'll be buying that the day it is!), so between those three, is there a clear, "Buy this now"? Also, is there a BETTER option in terms of investing for a larger set that has high MOC content? Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 I actually saw a Mini Modulars out in the area behind the cash registers where reserved sets are placed at my LEGO Brand Store, so maybe you should try asking the employees first if you can buy one of them. Quote

Oh? Well then! Tonight after work = small road trip! If the Mini's aren't available, my question still stands. Also, I have two of the free pick-a-brick boxes which I hope to fill with plant pieces and trans stuff. Quote
Brickdoctor Posted January 5, 2012 Posted January 5, 2012 Oh? Well then! Tonight after work = small road trip! It might be a better idea to just call the store. The availability, though, obviously, depends at this time entirely upon the employees of the store, if they do have them in stock. Quote

I have Plo Koon's fighter and it looks sharp and is easy to play with. I like the ejection seat play feature as well. Quote

Since it's for a younger kid who likes playability, what would be better? A good and a bad ship. Space chases aplenty. Plus, the Tri-Fighter is a pretty fun build. Quote

The Friends sets are also surprisingly good. The vet has a lot of great accessories like an otoscope and a pen. Quote
tiggerkiddo Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 So after seeing the Tintin movie (fun movie by the way but I'm a big Tintin fan anways) and seeing that great fight between...*silenced for trying to spoil*...I think I'd like to get a pirate ship. I have about 87 in my paypal account and about 18 ebay bucks...not sure if that will be enough to get a ship though. If not, maybe I'll go with a couple things off my Bricklink wanted list (Too long to post here) Quote
charlieboy Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 Here's one for the pirate fans out there. I recently bought the Queen Anne's Revenge and had planned to get the Black Pearl in the next week or so but after some searches on here and Bricklink i'm now leaning towards 6243 Brickbeard's Bounty instead of the Pearl. If you had the choice, what would you buy? Both can be had for similar prices so cost isnt really an issue but being new to the world of Lego ships, I wondered which one you preferred and why? Thanks for any help Quote
happymark Posted January 6, 2012 Posted January 6, 2012 6243 is much more expensive than black Pearl If i am not mistaken? (unless you want a used 6243 vs new black pearl?) if cost isn't an issue. then get both. for cost perspective. I would get black pearl. (and get the imperial battle ship !) Thanks for any help Thats a tough call. I have Brick Beards bounty and I liked and disliked several things about it. Pros Minifigures were all really good, I think you get like eight? Lots of cool accessories-Shark, Monkey, Parrot, Map, Treasure Three Cannons Cool looking sails Beautiful Colour scheme Awesome little blue boat Mermaid! Cons No "deck" Flimsy rigging sparse midsection build I don't own the Black Pearl but from what I can tell Pros Licensed figures! All really cool and different Lots of cool sails Really tall! Iconic Cons no deck no really stand out accessories bad rudder weird back not enough crew members I think I would go for the Bounty unless your a fan of the Pirates movie franchise, in which case I would go for the pearl. Quote
TheLegoDr Posted January 7, 2012 Posted January 7, 2012 I have the Pearl, not the Bounty, so I can't attest to that build. But overall I liked the Pearl. I don't like the back and how it is set up. It feels dainty, especially compared to the other big Lego ships, but all in all a good ship. I like the looks of the Bounty, but I'd say go for the Pearl, if not only for the black hull and darker pieces. Until more sets come up with black hulled ships, it will remain unique in that regard. Plus, the figurehead is prettier on the Pearl. But I agree, buy both. And buy the Imperial Flagship. In a few years you'll be kicking yourself. Charge it if you have to! Quote
