prateek Posted February 13, 2012 Posted February 13, 2012 10220 VW Camper van or 10231 Shuttle Expedition? I would go for Shuttle because it's almost gone. And it's a pretty awesome set Quote
Vindicare Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I would go for Shuttle because it's almost gone. And it's a pretty awesome set I agree here, but it's hard to do. I think 10220 is the better of the two. Assuming you're going to get both, going with the older one first is always the way to go. Quote
Legobrandon Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Oh, what the heck, I'll just get both. Quote
prateek Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 Oh, what the heck, I'll just get both. That's a good plan too! You definitely can't go wrong with either of those sets Quote

Dazmundo Posted February 14, 2012 Posted February 14, 2012 I'm heading to the Lego shop in Bluewater tomorrow with the plan to buy a set that my wife and I can build together. She isn't an AFOL but has enjoyed building a couple of big sets with me so we have decided to get some projects to build together. We already have, Grand Emporium, Fire Brigade, MMV, Emerald Night, All Winter Village Sets. What are your suggestions? D Quote

And its two towers are ideal for pair-building too. :-) Quote

D I'd definitely go with Pet Shop, it fits very well with what you've already got. Tower Bridge looks great - mine is still in the box - but will be more of a standalone piece. Quote
prateek Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 What are your suggestions? D I'd go for the Pet Shop or the new Kingdoms Joust set. Quote
Niku Posted February 15, 2012 Posted February 15, 2012 I'd go for the Pet Shop or the new Kingdoms Joust set. And between these two? Last time I asked here wasn´t sure about BoA from PoP or VMR from Kingdoms, with the advices of some I got the one from PoP and I am very happy of that choice. I got a few days back the MMV so for the next months before LOTR theme appears what, between the two you mentioned, is worthier? On one side I am a Castle guy, I love the joust for its unique design, useful pieces for MOCs and good integration with my collection. (Also that connects with the Kings Castle is a plus) On the other side, Pet Shop would be my first modular, wich is a theme already accept, I wont be able to complete, but I will like to give it a try, the pieces and minifigs not sure if they will serve that much for what I usually build, as I said, City is not my main theme, but from what I can see on the pictures is a great and fun build, seems to have interesting techniques and can be put on an office desk as an ornament. So please anyone with some advice to this confused guy wich likes both sets, but definetely can only get one (still on college) Quote
just2good Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 (edited) This is a list of all the Series 6 figures I own. I'm not sure which one to get next, so which one is the most sought after one that I don't own? EDIT: POST 550! Edited February 16, 2012 by just2good Quote

The Blue Brick Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 I was wondering of I should get the Grand Emporium, Kingdoms Joust, Pet Shop, or BatCave. I'm going to the Lego Store at Natick, and isn't sure which one I should buy. Thanks. Quote

TheKingOfBuilding Posted February 16, 2012 Posted February 16, 2012 What do you think is more worth the money, the Fire Brigade or the Pet Shop? I know the Fire Brigade is going to get discontinued soon but, to me anyway, that doesn't matter - I'm more interested in buying one of those sets for pieces for MOCing. Quote

Both in terms of price / pieces ratio, and as sheer building fun, even if you'll take it apart after that. Contains a lot of dark red tiles (obviously) in case you need those. Then again, if you prefer the Pet Shop colours for your future MOCs, you should probably consider that instead? Quote

I disagree with MetroID - that's a personal opinion, but that was probably what you wanted :) Fire Brigade is my least favourite of all the modulars thus far - it just doesn't tick the right boxes for me, and it's got only two floors even though it's a tall building. With Pet Shop you get two standalone buildings with different designs, and it's a much more fun build. But, as I said, that's my two cents :) Quote

Speaking solely for MOCing, there's a better variety of pieces in the Pet Shop, even if you are limited in the size of a building using either the brown or blue bricks. I think the PS will also give better facade ideas from the manual than the FB. So, strictly for parts pack buy, go with the PS. Even though, I more often than not tell the person to get the older of the two first. Quote

Not really sure if that's the case, considering the plethora of SNOT elements (and ideas) that the Fire Brigade presents both up-and-coming and more experienced MOCcers with. Don't get me wrong, I'm not hating on the Pet Shop, and of course I'll most definitely buy it as well (eventually). However, judging by the instruction manuals, it is not too complex of a build, save for some particular elements. I guess it all comes down to what kind of parts you need, but if you're only buying modulars as parts packs for any kind of future MOCs, as TheKingOfBuilding mentioned in the first place when asking his question, then I still firmly believe that the Fire Brigade is the one that provides better value for money (almost 20% cheaper, yet 10% more parts contained). And by the way - there's no "ID" as such in my nickname Quote
TheKingOfBuilding Posted February 17, 2012 Posted February 17, 2012 (edited) Thank you for your opinions MetroiD, L@go and Legocrazy81. I think i'll go with the Pet Shop though, as it has more of a variety of pieces, and it gives me a bit more time to save up some spare money to buy it! spacefan6901 Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I am in the process of narrowing down my list for my visit next month to LEGO Store, as there will be double VIP points March 1 - 15 in the US. I am probably going to pick up a 10197 Fire Brigade and a 10231 Shuttle Expedition, but for a 3rd set I wanted to try something different for me so: 10220 Volkswagen T1 Camper Van OR 10219 Maersk Train ? Both are the same price $119.99 in the US from LEGO. They are nearly the same in parts count as well (Van = 1332 and Train = 1234). I've never built either a large-scale model like the Van or ever built a LEGO train. So either one would be a new building experience for me. Any feedback from anybody who has built one or both of these sets would be appreciated. Quote
L@go Posted February 18, 2012 Posted February 18, 2012 I've got them and built them both, and they're both great builds. I'd say get the Maersk if you're thinking about getting into Lego trains - if not, something like the Emerald Night will probably look better on a shelf than the Maersk. And if you're not planning on getting into trains, go for the VW. It's a great design with lots of cool details, and will look nice on display. Quote
