50missioncap Posted June 8, 2012 Posted June 8, 2012 (edited) How about the Tram from 8404 Public Transport? That's what we have running in front of our short modular street: Very cool mrklaw! How hard is that to motorize? Edited June 9, 2012 by LuxorV Please do not quote big images. Thanks. Quote
Multiverse Posted June 9, 2012 Posted June 9, 2012 (edited) I'm expecting to be in the very lucky situation where I'll have the opportunity to buy several Lego sets at a 40% off discount. Included in the offer is (I presume), amongst others: Queen Anne's Revenge, Ulra Sonic Raider, The Knight Bus, The Crazy Scientist & His Monster, and The Mines Of Moria. I'd like all of these sets, but they all seem unreasonably expensive. Technically I can afford them all, but I'd rather leave some of them out in order not to be completely broke afterwards. I have a longer list of sets I'll be getting, but these are the one I'm in doubt about. Which would you get? EDIT: I also have the opportunity to get the Portal Of Atlantis for 430 DKK (half off), and the Toy Story Western Train Chase for 375 DKK (the same deal). Would you act on that? As further information, I still don't own any of the sets mentioned here. Edited June 9, 2012 by Multiverse Quote
TrumpetKing Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 3818 Bikini Bottom Undersea Party OR I would like to order these, though not an official set: http://www.brickstix.com/ZOMBIE-MOD-zombie.htm Quote
TheLegoDr Posted June 10, 2012 Posted June 10, 2012 Multiverse I am a huge Harry Potter nut, so the Knight Bus was very pleasing for me. But I have heard others not so happy with the shape. Since all of those sets are at different price points, is there a certain limit you were looking to spend? If you are into modifying the sets, the Queen Anne's Revenge could use some. Otherwise, the color scheme and overall design is nice, just doesn't have much of a cabin. It does have some exclusive figures if you are into that. Since all of those sets come from different themes, is there a specific theme that interests you the most. I am really into Lord of the Rings now that Lego has made them, so the Mines set would be really neat despite the stickers. But if the figures do nothing for you, the overall set probably isn't worth it. TrumpetKing67 Since those are at two different prices and two very different themes, why not get both? It could be a Spongebob in a post-apocalyptic world theme. Quote

I'm not a big fan of HP nor LotR - I've seen and liked the movies, but that's it. =J Something I should've noted before, though - any sets I buy, I buy for pieces (and minifigs). The only one of these I'd intend to keep assembled for a longer while would be QAR. As for the Mines, the figures does it all for me; not as characters (except for Lego Legolas, whose very name makes him a must-have), but I can think of many uses for their torsos and hair pieces. ;) BTW, I've settled on that other one, half-off deal. I'm getting PoA, but not WTC. =) Quote
horizon Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 I would personally buy the fire brigade. The reason being is that it will disappear soon while the others will last at least another year or two. Pet Shop. Reason is she's 8 and it has two buildings, so each building is a slightly less complex build, there are lots of neat features in the Pet Shop half to support play, and its cute. Second would be the Fire Brigade as it has some nice furniture on the 2nd floor. Never mind what is out of print first, she's saved up and you should focus on which she'd enjoy more. If you think she might collect more than one, then secretly buy Fire brigade and hide it until she's ready for another. Fire Brigade is a harder build than the Pet Shop. Since it will be discontinued first, follow that advice and get it secretly. If she does well and really likes PS then she'll like that. If not, you will always make your money back selling a modular after its been discontinued. Ya know, I'd just let her choose. Get a picture with all four in one so she can see them all together. She may enjoy it better then, since she picked it out. Otherwise, I'd also go with the Pet Shop. For a kid, it has more options for play. More power to your daughter being so young and building Modulars...I have a hard enough time and I'm 31. horizon I would recommend the Fire Brigade. Yes, it is going away first, but it is a really beautiful building. It was my first Modular last Christmas and really is a sight to see. The figures are cute, the fire-engine is beautiful, and you get a fire house dog! The ping-pong table and furniture are neat as well. The Pet Shop might allow more play value, which is important at this time in her life, but it would really stink to miss out on a set she may regret later. At least, the Pet Shop will be around a while if she changes her mind. I don't currently own the Pet Shop or Town Hall, but I will within the next year. All I know, the Grand Emporium and Fire Brigade do not disappoint, so I am sure the other newer sets wouldn't either. Hi all, She made up her mind and was quite straightforward : Grand Emporium She build it in two days, floor on day 1, 2nd bag/book in the morning on day 2, last floor in the evening. About 3 hours per floor. I assisted with sorting, attaching the windows and helping out on the headlight bricked walls, plus some other small points. Great build, recommendation to everyone. Quote
mrklaw Posted June 11, 2012 Posted June 11, 2012 Very cool mrklaw! How hard is that to motorize? take a look in the trains forum, I've seen it done - I think you can add a PF train motor under one of the carriages fairly easily. Quote
Ferrik Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) Hi I've been thinking of buying Gandalf Arrives or Shelob Attacks as one of my first LOTR sets. Which do you think is better? I like the horse and Gandalf for the first set and for "Shelob Attacks" I like Shelob because she has a string and there's Gollum and Sam who are exclusive... Thanks (Sorry for posting a new topic, but I can't find the "Which Set Should I buy" topic.) Edited June 16, 2012 by Ferrik Quote
CMP Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) Shelob Attacks. Gandalf Attacks is more a horse supplement, or just to round off your Fellowship. It's no question you should get Shelob Attacks, the completed model is gorgeous and both the playability and display factor are tenfold that of Gandalf Attacks. It's right here. Nightshroud99 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Shelob Attacks- It's the only set, at the moment, where you can get Samwise and Gollum. Plus, Shelob is a fun build and just looks great. Gandalf arrives is definitely also a must buy, for Gandalf, but it's pretty plain. Quote
The_Chosen_1 Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Why not both?! I bought them both as my first LotR purchase, and they're both great sets. Shelob Attacks is an incredibly good value for the money, with 3 key characters. Gandalf attacks, while it doesn't have a great price/piece ratio, is cool in that it's the first scene from Fellowship and the only way (currently) to get Gandalf. Basically you can't go wrong either way! Quote
Legonardo Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Ferric they are both nice sets, shelob comes with string, ring(s) short swords hobbits golum and a few other nick-knacks Gandalf comes with the horse gandalf frodo and some small accessories if you are wanting a model for display get shelob if you are wanting it for parts then go for the one that has the parts you are wanting the most while the final answer is all up to you I say go for both hope it helps Quote

TheLegoDr Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Ferrik I would say go with Shelob Attacks. The spider is the most beautiful creature ever built and you get 3 figures (2 of which are exclusive). You get some nice rings and a few extra stings. I would say get both also, but if you really only can get one, get Shelob. Quote
Vindicare Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Ferrik, like those before me said, get both. I would just save up and wait and buy them both. Both sets have 2 exclusive figs and a lot of other goodies. I particularly like the Ninjago snake piece is Gandalfs cart. New horse. Yeah, save up. Quote
The Blue Brick Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 Definitely get Shelob Attacks. Its one of my favorite sets sets so far for the price. The overall design and playability is great. Quote
SheepEater Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) Null vote: Get both. Heck, get the whole line. Gandalf attacks Be careful Frodo - That old man is up to something! Edited June 16, 2012 by SheepEater Quote
lightningtiger Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 (edited) I had to buy Gandalf first because that's all TRU had instock....actually second I brought the battle pack one first. I'm getting Shelob hopefully tomorrow if it arrives at my usual Lego outlet plus 25% off....handy as long as the shipment arrives on time ! I voted for Shelob Attacks, but I agree with 'SheepEater' get them all ! Edited June 16, 2012 by lightningtiger Quote

HumanPackMule Posted June 17, 2012 Posted June 17, 2012 Shelob. The spider is awesome and the figs are great. Gandalf's cart is meh and the only decent figure in that set is Gandalf himself. But if you can get both. Quote
