I'd go with 4184 Black Pearl. Has 3 great exclusive figs, one being the awesome Davy Jones. Iconic ship, can't speak on the build because mine is still in it's box.

I've helped my brother build the Pearl, and I can pretty much vouch for it. It's a great build, and nearly made me go out and buy QAR just so I'd have another ship to build.

I'm expecting to be in the very lucky situation where I'll have the opportunity to buy several Lego sets at a 40% off discount. Included in the offer is (I presume), amongst others: Queen Anne's Revenge, Ulra Sonic Raider, The Knight Bus, The Crazy Scientist & His Monster, and The Mines Of Moria. I'd like all of these sets, but they all seem unreasonably expensive. Technically I can afford them all, but I'd rather leave some of them out in order not to be completely broke afterwards. I have a longer list of sets I'll be getting, but these are the one I'm in doubt about. Which would you get?

I only got one response to this (btw, thanks, TheLegoDr), and it was pretty much based on the presumption that I'm buying for the builds. Really it's almost exclusively for the parts (except for QAR. That'd be for the build and the parts). So I hope it won't be too much of a problem if I drag back into the eye of the public. =J

Not really a "what set" as more of a "what stuff" should I buy.

I have 2 Supercars and will have an Excavator soon. I'll also be picking up the 4x4 when it becomes available. So that gives an idea as to what Power Functions I have (or will have) available. If I want to pick up some additional PF stuff for building more RC-style vehicles, what PF parts should I invest in?

If you can afford one of the bigger sets, the Cafe and the Beauty Shop are incredible in the $25-30 range. If you are limited to $10, I'd consider what interests your sister. If she likes music, Andrea's Stage is great. If she likes science and technology, Olivia's Invention Workshop is great. If she likes Fashion, Emma's Fashion Design Studio is great... really they are all great, but it depends on what your sister likes the most.

The $6 sets aren't as interesting from a build/parts perspective, but another option might be to buy two of those to have two Friends for her to play with. You don't mention her age, so I'm assuming she is young enough she'll want to play with the sets.

Thanks Meyerc13. She is really into different animals, so right now I am between Andrea's Bunny House, and Mia's Doghouse. She is 4, so I will buy, build, and play with her with it, and then display it until she is ready to play with it again. I am sure that she will want to play with it, as she is always getting into my sets and making a mess of my sets as well.

I would go with Andrea's Bunny House if it's out already (I haven't seen it anywhere yet). It looks more interesting than the Doghouse. My four-year-old quite likes the Friends sets if someone else will play with her. Olivia's Treehouse is another option - it has a cute bird and a cat and is a nice display set. Kids can always find something to do in a treehouse, even a Lego one.

In that case, I'd go with the Heartlake Dog Show at $20. It comes with two puppies and lots of activities for them to do.

I don't own any, so I'm probably not the best advice, but I am the same in that I buy sets based on parts mainly (looking cool helps too ). I would personally go with the Mines of Moria or QAR, due mainly to the fact these are licensed themes and you will get better value for your money if you buy these on discount vs. buying a non-licensed set. You can always pick up the Crazy Scientist (awesome set!) later. I think Mines of Moria would be the best choice; great minifigures and parts; but there isn't much to choose between them. You are in the envious position of not having to choose A set to buy but to choose FROM a number of fantastic sets. Whichever you buy won't be a bad choice!

(you will notice I've disregarded the Knight Bus. I think the other 3 are better. :classic:)

But it's your choice.

Thanks! =D

With that in mind, I'm leaning towards getting the Mines and the Crazy Scientist, perhaps QAR as well if I still have enough money. I won't be buying any sets later that I can get there, since it's an annual sale that I plan my entire Lego budget after. I don't buy sets if they're not exclusive or >40% off.

It's nice to have your input on the Knight Bus, too. =)

What would be a good set to display S8 diver in?

First one to come to my mind was the city of Atlantis  Take out some of the weird fish people and explorers and just have the S8 Diver discovering the lost city. I think the white and gold minifig work really well, and should look cool with that big diver helmet :sweet:

Hah, i could imagine legoland having a display of this. Not a bad idea.

Should I get the Deep Sea Raider again? I had one but it was disassembled into a thousand pieces and I was wondering if I should have it for the new S8 Diver.

If you want another, and can afford it, get it. It wouldn't look great with the S8 Diver, though. :sceptic:

The Deep Sea Diver seems stylistically to be from a different era. A wreck of something older might be cool. Maybe customize an Imperial Flagship?

Should I get the mill or cannibal escape from the POTC. I don't care about value. Which one is better?

The Mill has the funny exclusive fish-man character with the shell on his head. That alone makes it a better set.

Also, it's a complete building - not 3-4 smaller bits and pieces that just creates a scene.

I like the look of The Mill. Plus, it's on sale on S@H.

This really isn't between two options, but I'm looking for someone to validate an intended purchase. You see, I want a Jean Grey giveaway SDCC figure so badly. Jean Grey has always been my favorite superhero ever since I was little. I have fond memories of running around playing X-Men with my little sister. Sometimes we would fight over who got to be Jean, but I was the oldest so I got to make the rules. She would be Shadowcat, though, so she didn't end up too poorly on character selection. I want this figure so badly. Honestly, I've never been more in love with anything made by Lego in forever. I really want her also because she is a strong superheroine. There are only two superheroines available currently and Wonder Woman is tossed in as a damsel in distress to be saved by Superman. The only thing is how pricey they are going for. I'm really looking at around $100 for her, $75 if I'm lucky on an auction. I am finding it hard to justify spending that much for a single figure, especially when Lego won't get a cent! Instead Aftermarket Joe with all of his SDCC giveaways and autographs from every booth will be getting my cash. There is a possibility that more X-Men sets will be produced, but if by a slim chance another Jean is made, she won't have her iconic green Phoenix outfit. I would honestly be shocked if another Jean was released because she doesn't exactly appeal to Superheroes target audience the way a Cyclops or Beast would.

So, you obviously can see that I want it, -and I'll probably just buy it anyway- but I need approval. Yay or nay?

Judging by how much you want it, I'd say go for it. You've got a strong emotional connection to her character, and this is the only way to get this version in Lego. I firmly believe that if the minifig is worth that much to you, you should buy it.

My absolute favourite LOTR character, and possibly favourite character in any story ever created, is Samwise Gamgee. I know that if he had been a comic-con exclusive, I would've shelled out the money to buy him. That's how strong my connection to him is.

At the end of the day, do what you want. But given the background info you gave us, I vote yay.

We all need people to help us in this moment so I will hopefully help by saying...Yay! Go for it. It sound like you really want it, and will probably get it regardlessly, but I say definitely go for it! :sweet:

I think you might regret the purchase when/if they release a Jean Grey figure in a set. This Superheroes line will likely last for many years (if successful) due to new movies coming out several times per year, so I'd say the chances of getting her through a retail LEGO set will be quite high. Perhaps not necessarily as Phoenix, but is that particular costume worth $100 to you? Just think of all the other stuff, LEGO and other stuff, you could get for that kind of money... it's just a minifig, after all.

Dont tell us your monthly income, but think to yourself, do I make enough? Maybe wait a little to save. Put $5-$10 aside each month, even if it means you cant get a small impulse set. Find some loose change or your coins found in a piggy bank you've had. And when your ready to sell this Minifigure ( if you do), you will get a lot back.

And also, you forget a super female; Black widow  .
